Agreed. They're pretty awful. Saying Datsyuk was interfering Niedermayer from getting to the puck??? It's called having position. So they could've called Niedermayer for interference or hitting from behind.

hmm, I don't think I have a real favorite. I've always liked Brodeur, just because he's been rock solid for so long. Ron Hextall, the crazy bastard. And when I first really got into the Wings, I was a pretty big Glen Hanlon fan.

I'd be worried if the team was playing well defensively and those were the numbers. Defensively speaking, this team hasn't looked itself since the start of the season.

The NHL Should Change the Way it Shows its Games

That wasn't meant as a jab or anything. I really would be curious to know your opinion after a whole game. Because for me honestly it became really frustrating watching it that way. The action is so far away a lot of the time. -
The NHL Should Change the Way it Shows its Games

I thought those angles were terrible. I mean, they make for great secondary angles to cut to occasionally, especially on replays. But to watch a whole game that way drove me nuts. Especially the center ice camera. I've never felt so far away from the action while watching a game. As others have said, you couldn't really see plays develop that well, because you weren't above the action but you weren't on the ice either. It was this low angle that obscured a lot of the plays developing. To the original poster, I'd be curious to see if you felt the same after watching a whole game from those angles. Because honestly it is good to see highlights that way sometimes. But in terms of following the action for a full 60 minutes, it's awful. -
From what I've seen, Ozzie's been fine. He's given up a few more juicy rebounds than I'd like, but that's about it. And that's a bigger problem lately because the Wings opponents can pretty much come to the net at will. It's crazy how many times I've seen the Wings outnumbered in front of their own net.

Agreed. I think Sammy's been pretty good so far. There was the ill advised wrister from the blueline with no one in front of the net, but overall he's been good. And last night he and Lilja were the only ones playing with any real edge. Go figure. Last night while watching the game, it just sort of occurred to me that I bet Sammy is very coachable. I'm not sure why. Just a gut feeling. Babs wants him to take more shots, he definitely does that. He usually makes the consistent safe play with the puck. EDIT: as for Lids, i'm not too worried. This whole team has looked out of sync defensively, and Lidstrom is the keystone to the whole thing, so he's gonna look bad too. I thought he looked good last night. Raf was the one who had a couple bad beats.

I gotta say, I had no real impression of Quincey before, but he looked really good tonight. I noticed him out there several times, and always for good reasons.

Z! Wings make it look easy in the SO. Goalie bought the mule kick.

Dats is money in the bank on a shootout. I almost feel bad for the goalie. almost.

Agreed.

blech.

I have a feeling that after about half a season, Dats and Hossa are going to be making some ridiculous plays together. You can already see glimpses of it.
-
Nice play by Kronner on Kopitar.
-
Shoulda shot it Dats! you've got a great wrist shot! Great effort by Z!
-
Uh, Lilja and Sammy have been our chippiest players tonight.

Skate and dangle are not two words usually associated with Robitaille.
-
At this rate, Lebda would probably clear waivers.
-
The goal was due to a freak deflection, but it was a still a great scoring chance the Wings gave up.
-
I would shudder a little without Drapes. He's very good defensively still, a beast on faceoffs, and though he doesn't do it as much in the regular season, he had a lot of great hits in the playoffs. And he's still got pretty good speed.
-
He does? I didn't know that.
-
It's early yet, but remember that he's had two 40 point seasons. If he stays healthy, he could put up more. He's defensively responsible, and he's not afraid to go into corners. I'm not totally up on the relative value of contracts, but 2.5 mill for 40+ points and a good two-way forward seem reasonable.
-
No kidding. In tonight's game, Quincey>Lebda.
-
Not controversial. Just wrong.

I don't know if it's been brought up or not, but the Kings and Fox Sports West have what has to be the worst camera positions I've even seen in all my years of watching hockey. Seriously. they're like the alternate camera angles most networks have. Behind the net. Low along center ice boards. Could they only afford three cameras or something?
