    Fedorov & Shanahan

I don't get why some people are pissed at Shanny for leaving. It was a necessary step in the Red Wings finding a new identity. And I'm guessing he new that. Wether you think it was for noble or selfish reasons (though there's no evidence of the latter), he did this team a favor.

Here's a link to the Red Wings roster, in case you need to brush up on who is on the team and who isn't. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/teams/stats?team=det

    Giving up too many goals

And the ten years before that Ozzy generally got nothing but bashed here. so does that make it even? Hasek is retired. He no longer plays for the Red Wings. Last season is gone. Move on. Please. Pretty please. good lord.

    Giving up too many goals

Jesus. Hasek isn't on the team any more and you're still crying in threads about how he was treated. He retired. Get over it. I don't know why the Wings would miss Dom. He was mediocre at best last season, and they definitely didn't miss him last postseason so I can't imagine why it would change now. And it wasn't a hint. Choosing Osgood over him in the postseason is saying pretty clearly "We don't think you give us the best chance to win Hasek." Dom still seems to want to play hockey, there's just not a team in the NHL that would offer him a job as starter. Ozzy's made more than a nice few saves. The Rangers were going to the net at will last night. That has to change. This whole team needs to find their A game, Ozzy included. Edited for crapload of typos and grammar.

    Jiri Hudler

absolutely. The Wings have been off their game defensively. I was just saying one of those minuses for Hudler was legit. Not that he should take the brunt of the blame. Honestly I'm still not sure exactly where and what is the best use of Hudler for the Wings.

    Jiri Hudler

Lids was behind the net and made an outlet pass up the boards to who I sure thought was Hudler by the left faceoff circle. What would Rafalski be doing up there? You may have been thinking of an earlier goal. This was the fourth one by the Rangers. Lids made a decent outlet pass to Hudler along the boards, Hudler just tries to pull it in with his stick and loses the puck, then there's some scrambling and it's in the back of the Wings net. I'm not saying Hudler was bad all game, but it's those kinds of plays that have to drive Babcock nuts.

    Bob Probert

Agreed. Probert was also very good about getting in fights with up and coming enforcers to give them a shot, maybe to a fault. And the longer the fights went on, the better he seemed to get. It's also worth adding that in '88 he broke the Wings playoff points record when he scored 8 goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 16 games. He held it until '95 when Fedorov scored 24 points in 17 games.

    Giving up too many goals

If you look at the shot chart on ESPN, three of those goals with the exception of the one banked off Ozzy were scored right in the slot. The Rangers could carry the puck in front of the net virtually untouched for most of the game. That's got to change.
  9. haroldsnepsts

    Jiri Hudler

One of those goals was a direct result of Hudler not moving his feet and coming to the puck on Lidstrom's pass to him along the boards. As a result a forechecking Ranger easily stripped the puck from him which directly led to a goal.

    Giving up too many goals

Great post. I don't know why it should surprise me, but it did that people are turning on Ozzy already. This whole team has looked out of sorts, and honestly I've thought the goaltending has looked fairly solid from both guys. For those sentimental about Hasek, he was a great goalie. One of the best to ever play the game. But last season he went from pretty awful to pretty mediocre. His best days were behind him. He lost the starting job in the playoffs for a reason. Let's move on. Osgood has not been the biggest problem for giving up as many goals as the Wings have. This whole team needs to step up their game.

Or maybe he won it, if the bet was who can look the most like an aging hair band frontman. Edit: typo

Is that Ron Duguay on the MSG feed? When did he start looking like Bon Jovi?

The Wings are giving up a ton of shots compared to last year. Though actually I'd be worried if the games were going this way and they looked defensively sound. Everyone's just got to get back into the defensive system.

All the Rangers watching Datsyuk. Great pass.

I actually have to agree with the announcers, that looked like a pretty marginal Too Many Men call.

In the replay you can see the puck skipping around on Hossa. Man he just needs to get his first one.

Agreed. The Rangers can carry the puck to the net whenever they feel like it.
