Dude, I cannot believe you just said that.
-
shorthanded goals don't count against +/-, but otherwise you're right on. Stuart is +3 in 3 games with Detroit (probably more after today's game). And Drapes is a great faceoff and shutdown forward, and plays 5 more minutes per game than Tootoo, who is neither. Downey, like Tootoo, is a marginal NHL player. Tootoo is actually more talented than Downey. It's just that he's a total cheapshotting dirtbag whereas Downey makes the most of his limited abilities and even as an enforcer is a respectable hockey player.
-
Exactly. Tootoo is a marginal player who makes his living trying to hurt someone every time he's on the ice.
-
I don't know if you're really agreeing with me, or being sarcastic!
-
Exactly. As much as I hate Pronger, the guy is a great defenseman. The NHL would not miss Tootoo one bit.
-
So the opinion of one person proves what most everyone here thinks?? The hit was borderline. And Tootoo got a 5 minute boarding major for it. The crosscheck after it was typical Tootoo garbage.
-
You can't spell Kocur without "KO." The most feared right hand in hockey.
-
I knew Wideman's had to be #1 what a great video. A lot of players I don't like totally embarrassing themselves.
-
he's just a little *****. his tough upbringing is no excuse for how he plays on the ice.
-
The hit was questionable. I'd have to see the replay again. If anything it was more likely a charge than a board. Still, it's a hit that's gonna get a reaction. That doesn't mean you turn around and crosscheck the nearest guy in the face. Edit: watching it a couple more times, it didn't look like a charge, he just had the stick and gloves up high.

Avery breaks off contract talks with Rangers
haroldsnepsts replied to Skiing - Puck's topic in General
Avery now has 13 goals 14 assists in 43 games. What's his projection now? (still don't want him back here) -
Just saw the highlights. It seriously is the exact same crap with him. He throws a questionable hit, then a teammate of the guy he just railed skates over, this time not even with their stick up or anything, and Tootoo immediately crosschecks him to the face, drops of the gloves and starts throwing haymakers. He's a disgrace.

Toronto is because they're pathetic. I disagree with Chicago, who just played a great game against Anaheim and has a lot of young players, Ottawa, and Dallas I would've agreed with until lately. Nashville I can't really say because I just hate them too much. I don't think Jersey is #1 anymore. They're not the team of old. Some teams may be more boring now because they're out of the playoff hunt, but taking into account the whole season, I still think the Wings are right up there. I absolutely agree about Hank and Pavel. But then you get past them and... Sammy? Hudler? Filppula? Franzen? Kopecky?
-
That's my bold statement and I'm sticking to it. If this team is so exciting, why do people practically crap their pants from excitement when Downey is out there for his 4 and half minutes of ice time? It's because they know something will happen during his shift. A big hit, a fight. Something interesting. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy the Wings are winning, but if I'm being honest, I find myself bored during a lot of their games. To the point where I thought I was losing interest in hockey. then I'd watch some other teams play and realized I still loved the game, the Wings style was just extremely effective and dull. Cup wins aside, you don't have to go back very far to when the team was much more exciting to watch. Shanny, Stevie, Fedorov, Larionov, McCarty, Konstantinov, Kozlov, Kocur, Fischer. Looking down our current roster, the excitement level drops way down once you go past our first line.

The Ducks, Pronger, playing dirty and why it works
haroldsnepsts replied to BlueMonk's topic in General
As I said over on HFboards and as I've said before regarding the Ducks, they've adopted Derian Hatcher's philosophy. He pretty much commits a penalty on every shift, so he ends up getting away with a lot because there's no way the refs will call him every single time. Apply that to a whole team and you have the Ducks. -
The Red Wings playing style currently makes them among the 5 most boring teams to watch in the NHL (regular season).
-
Really? I'd take Stuart. Bigger. Younger. More offensive upside. He hasn't thrown the dramatic hits Markov did, but hopefully that will come in time.
-
If Niedermayer retires for real this summer, I think Anaheim could. I don't know a lot about their total cap situation, but relatively speaking San Jose hasn't spent much money on their blueline. Back to my original point. I'd like him to stay here, but could the Wings swing it even if they wanted to?
-
I hope he stays. The Wings definitely need his size and physical play on the blueline. Realistically though, can the Wings afford to spend that on defense? I think Stuart made 3.5 mill this year.
-
Looking at that clip, they really should've called Pronger for boarding.
-
I'd have to see a clip, because I don't understand how this is physically possible. For someone to have gotten their gloves up in Pronger's face, it would mean Chris actually had his elbows down during a hit, and I don't know what that looks like.

Avery breaks off contract talks with Rangers
haroldsnepsts replied to Skiing - Puck's topic in General
First off, like I said, I don't want the guy back. It wasn't me bashing Hudler or saying I want Avery instead of him. Someone pointed out that Avery had missed a bunch of games due to injury. He has. Second, we don't know what his actual totals over 66 games would've been, since he hasn't played 66 games. It's an unknown. It would be like projecting Hudler's totals had he not played the last 20 games. He would've come out looking a helluva lot better than he's actually ended up since his scoring drought. For all we know Avery could go on a tear those next 20 games. And did I mention I still don't want Avery back? He's got a lot to offer, but still manages to outweigh them with his negative qualities. -
Another W. Nice job boys! Suck it Blues!
-
Babs keeping Downey out there. aww, took him off the ice.
-
Three blues going after Downey. Downey smartly just takes it.
