bummer. It's officially a slump. I'm looking forward to all the panic threads tomorrow.
-
It's pretty exciting actually. Every game means so much, and the team is a total underdog. It's why those guys on the late 80s Wings will always be my favorites.
-
I hate Giguere, but there's plenty of other guys who wear the giant pads too. Luongo for one. Legace is one of the worst offenders in pad size for such a small guy. Giguere's pads are legal. that's the problem.

You owe LGW.com $20.

I don't really disagree with any of that. Osgood and Hasek are good, but not what I'd consider elite. But there's really only a few teams who have truly elite goaltenders. And the last 3 teams that won the Cup weren't among them.
-
Why is everyone here so fixated on stats? Is everyone in a fantasy league or something? I could care less what the number say, as long as the Wings end up with one more goal than their opponent.
-
Fewest shots doesn't mean they don't face quality shots. It does mean their stats will suffer when they do let in a goal because they face so few shots. ps - watch other teams so you realize that even the best don't make every save every game. It's about being consistent overall and coming back from goals.

Yeah, I especially like the posts saying we should bring in Emery. He's having a terrible year and his proving himself to be lockeroom cancer. Make it happen Kenny!
-
The difference is that when our goalie makes the big save, it's one they're "expected" to make. When the other goalie makes a big save, it's a game changer that we only wish our goalies could make.
-
Well, if there's any silver lining to this terrible start, it's that Jimmy Howard gets some ice time in about as low a pressure situation as he can expect.
-
stick around, I'm sure there'll be even better ones coming.
-
wow. I wonder if it's some key injuries affecting the lineup, or if teams are starting to solve the Wings puck possession game. or both.
-
I can't watch the game tonight, but just checked the score. wtf is going on?? down 3-0 already?

The sad part is when the Ducks won the Cup last year, it was about as big a news as if an indoor lacrosse team won the championship. Most people might have heard of the team and saw on the news that they won something, but that's about it. Then less than 12 hours after they won it, any publicity was trumped by Paris Hilton going to jail. Phoenix has terrible numbers, but they're also a terrible team. There's so many northern transplants, I would think that if they ever put a respectable team on the ice, the fans would come. Off topic: Great sig DaKine!

Yeah, I've seen those goals before too. But that's in the context of a game, and often the guy gets knocked down or tripped. Like I said, they were the only two on the ice. You shouldn't be able to run the goalie in a shootout.
-
watching the replay a few more times, shannon is basically lying in the crease and running into Khabi during the play. I know this is funny to say after what happened yesterday, but I don't think it should count.
-
actually I think that's pretty questionable. But then I think shootouts are a joke anyway. As the announcers mention, I thought you had to keep the puck moving forward. But my main problem is you shouldn't be able to to run into the goaltender on a shootout considering you're the only two on the ice. I don't think Khabi could've made the save without getting run into, but I can see why he's pissed. Holmstrom should take penalty shots by falling down on the puck as he slides into the goalie and they all crash into the net.
-
That's a great pic. Yeah, for some odd reason I always thought it was illegal to use the canopener move on a goalie who has the puck covered.
-
Hmm. That's definitely a concern. I don't really remember him tweaking it on any specific play, but with the hip flexor, it could be a chronic use type injury.
-
First, we're not complaining about Homer. We're complaining about the call. This season he's had several goals disallowed on very questionable calls, especially early in the season. And they usually also result in him getting a 2 minute penalty. Which begs the question, if this was enough goaltender interference to waive off a goal, why wasn't it a penalty? What really ticks me off about it is in the very same game Kunitz was able to plow into Ozzy, who had the puck frozen, jarring the puck loose and resulting in an Anaheim goal. Kunitz didn't poke it out with his stick, he just knocked right into Osgood. That's what makes this marginal call on the Wing's last goal really infuriating.

I was surprised that Parros was going for the hugfest from the start. What was he trying to accomplish? Not much of a fight, but a nice job by Downey.
-
Agreed. Anaheim had too much leeway around our net. We need some big bodies to help clear the crease.
-
Maybe we need a new rule, when Ozzy is in net, all the whiny Hasek martyr's aren't allowed to post. Then when Hasek is in net the couple Hasek bashers aren't allowed to post in the GDT. It'd be nice to read a GDT without hearing all this childish, "it's not fair how Dom is treated compared to Ozzy." It's like little kids crying over who started it. I don't care who started it. I'd love for whining about it to be a bannable offense. Can we talk about the f-ing game please? On topic, the horrible reffing aside, I think this did show that we could use some size and toughness on the blueline. You know come playoff time if Anaheim is in it, they're gonna be making kamikazee runs at our goalies.

Posts like this are the equivalent of saying "I'm not racist, but..." because you know the rest of the sentence is going to be a racist statement. How about creating your own thread about the alleged hypocrisy of this board, instead of making stupid posts that start this goalie crap in the GDT. Juuust saying.
