Emery late for practice once again

but wtf does the mayor have to do with a professional hockey goaltender missing practice or having a bad attitude? It's not about proving that those three don't have that attitude. It's that you chose those three in particular while excluding many others, even though a lot of people have that attitude. Todd "I didn't mean to hurt him" Bertuzzi comes to mind. You lumped them together because you think they all have that attitude and they're all black. You can call it typical "hip hop" attitude, but the word you're looking for is typical n*gger.

Emery late for practice once again

okay, I've been holding off until now in the thread, but Kilpatrick?? As in Kwame? wtf? So Emery has a bad attitude (he does) and it's typical hip hop attitude? And now he has something in common with a guy who tortures dogs? What about the other players in the league with a bad attitude or personal problems? Lang had a questionable work ethic. Does that make him hip hop? McCarty smokes weed and has gambling problems. Does that make him hip hop? Hmmm... Emery is a hockey goalie, Vick is a football QB, and Kwame is a politician (unless you were referring to the linebacker for the Arizona Wildcats) what could it be that they all have in common that you somehow lump them together?

    Red Wings and Yzerman Duped

The probably wouldn't. But if your wife wrote in her sob story, well...

    Red Wings and Yzerman Duped

I think the best part of the article is where Yzerman says this won't dissuade him from doing things like that in the future, and in fact it'll probably cause him to do more. He has a lot of commitments already and probably gets tons of requests for things like this. It'd be easy to get pissed and jaded when you've given your time and been manipulated like that.

    Official: Selanne signs with Ducks

No worries. And you're right, it's not quite apples to apples, but still fairly close, I think. I only have a problem with the Niedermayer thing really. And it's not because I like Teemu more or anything. Selanne is under no obligation to anyone. If he wants to come back and the Ducks want to sign him, so be it. I'd like to think if Lidstrom did the same thing, he'd be welcomed back with open arms. I don't want to reopen the whole can of worms on Niedermayer, but if you're gonna have a guy under contract come back midway through the season, the team should have to pay the season's salary and take the cap hit. If the player is going to be that wishy washy about it, well then that's on him.

    Red Wings and Yzerman Duped

man, what a story. The good news is the kid doesn't have cancer. The bad news is his dad is an @sshole. I don't think Yzerman was lashing out in any way. Clearly the boy went along with the lie, but it'd be hard for a kid that young to stand up against his dad in a situation like that. It sounded like Stevie just hoped the kid would recognize the mistake his father made, and the part he played in it.

    Official: Selanne signs with Ducks

Yeah. This is a totally different deal than Niedermayer. Sellane was a UFA and had no contractual obligations to anyone. This would be no different than if by some miracle McCarty would play for the Wings this season. Then would people be so angry, or think the team should have to pay for a whole season?

    All-Star Weekend Open Thread

Yeah, it's a little ridiculous to take any meaning away from the all star game, especially regarding goaltending. Anytime during the regular season you're not going to see Lidstrom standing around with Ovechkin 10 feet away from the net.

I can't stand the guy, but it's pretty lame to boo him at the all star game.

From the box score: Ozzy faced 16 shots in the 1st, Nabby faced 8 in the 2nd, and Legace 9 in the 3rd.

As much as I dislike Bettman, I love how he was razzing Manny about his giant pads. Manny says "hey, I'm within the rules!" and then Bettman said that's why they have to change them. Maybe there's hope yet.

yeah. these games tend to see saw. One team gets too big a lead, then the competitiveness kicks in and the other team actually decide to start playing. The effort in the third is always greater than in the first.

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

Agreed. That would take a miracle of miracles. But if he keeps his act together, works really hard, and stays healthy, he might have a shot at replacing someone like Drake next year.

We should bench Lidstrom in the playoffs too. He was on the ice for a lot of those. It's great that Babs is here so he can base a lot of playoff decisions on the all-star game.

    Lidstrom is like Flavor Flav

I thought this was pretty funny. Buccigross's ESPN column The rest of the column is a discussion with the NHL's senior vp of broadcasting. Fairly interesting, but doesn't really go for the throat about why coverage is often so poor, or the NHL network/DirecTV conflict.

    Has Osgoods luck run out?

I think it's premature to say this is the beginning of the end for Ozzy. The team is in a rut right now, him included it seems.

    Forsberg again...

Exactly. Which is why I don't get that so many people are opposed to this. First they don't want to add anybody because they don't want to have to give up picks or young talent. With Forsberg, the Wings don't have to. Now they don't want to add anybody because we don't need him? or because he was a big rival 5 to 10 years ago? Why wouldn't the Wings want to spend available money to increase their chances at winning the Cup? Like him or not, a healthy Forsberg does that.
  18. haroldsnepsts

    Forsberg again...

those are pretty good points. As always, health is the absolute biggest question mark with Forsberg. If the Wings can be reasonably certain he can make it through a playoff run, hell yes I'd want him.

Mike Green is looking very good

how can the deal be bad without Lang being bad? Because it seems pretty clear he thinks Green is looking good (as the thread is titled). So for it to be a bad deal, it would mean we gave up something good (Green) to get something bad (Lang). No? Hank said that wasn't his intent, so I misunderstood him. But I don't think it was a huge leap on my part to arrive at the conclusion I did. And even his intent aside, it seemed like the net result is going to be another Lazy and Sucksâ„¢ thread.

Mike Green is looking very good

Your initial post: You don't see how this would be a great starting off point for pointing out yet again how much Lang sucks? Beyond that, there's plenty of hypothetical debates here. I don't have a problem with many of them, but draft picks are extremely hindsight 20/20 though, because drafting in the NHL is such a crapshoot. And this is another level removed because it's assuming that the Wings would've even drafted Green. It's implying that Lang cost us Green, which is not exactly the case.

Mike Green is looking very good

People might have short wicks because it's a thread basically digging for more reasons to hate Lang or at least characterize him as a colossal mistake.

    Aaron Downey

3 goals, 3 assists, +1, he's pretty responsible defensively and he's 25 years old. I really like Downey in his limited role, but playing him every game, especially giving him Kopecky's minutes (he averages almost 9 minutes a game) would be a mistake. His liabilities would be exposed. And playing him in place of Sammy or Maltby is ridiculous. He looks good now because of the limited role Babcock has him playing. I think he could be in the lineup a little more often, but overall he's being utilized well. EDIT: spelling

Heatley out 4-6 weeks (sep. shoulder)

    1) but you're continuing it. As am I, which is why this will be my last post on this stupid subject. 2) Yes, I can. Alcohol was not a factor. You were implying he was drunk. .015 is nowhere near that. It was no more involved than an aspirin he might have taken, or maybe it was a cup of coffee having him all hopped on caffeine, or maybe it was a trace amount of opiates from a poppy seed muffin. You were implying he was somehow drunk. He was not. 3) So let's see, even though they can document the negligible amount of alcohol in his system, yet that means nothing to you, you can say without a doubt his status helped him out? That's b.s. What certainly helped him out was the parents of the victim asking the judge for leniency. you have no evidence that him being a "huge" hockey star in Atlanta (think about the contradiction of that sentence for a minute) helped in his sentencing. This is obviously some weird issue you have that goes well beyond Heatley and his accident. Now back to actualy hockey talk and his injury...

Heatley out 4-6 weeks (sep. shoulder)

He may not have been recognized on the spot as a celeb but his Ferrari told the cops something. He says he had 1 beer!! Good for him, betcha he had more. Just because he released a book that describes the events in his words does not make it all facts...(Don't beleive everything you read). Even police reports are fixed all the times, especially when its convinient for millionaires. He should have been locked up plain and simple. Its funny how some people right away say he wasn't drunk, it was an error ...blah blah blah...he killed someone, had your mom been on the corner that night and gotten run over by him i'm sure you would feel that it was just an error........PUHHHLEASE. I don't believe everything I read. And honestly I didn't even know he had written a book about the accident. But I do read about things before I open my mouth, so I have some idea what I'm talking about. I say Heatley wasn't drunk because he wasn't. His blood alcohol level was .015, nowhere near the legal limit of .08. Like about if you had one beer. That's been readily documented.

Sat. Hotstove: Rob Blake to the Wings?

Yeah. He's gonna be a big bargain for them in a few years.
