The thing is that Selanne is a UFA, whereas Niedermayer was under contract. He has no obligations to anybody. And I sure as hell would want Detroit to allow him back if he wanted to play for the Wings. He'd be a perfect addition to the team for the playoff run. As for the Ducks not making the playoffs, they've already been playing better with Niedermayer back. If Selanne returns and/or they find some other offensive help, they'd almost certainly make the postseason.

Really? That doesn't sound like Pierre Mcguire to me. hm. He hasn't been bad or anything this game. I just though I recognized the voice as the guy who does the Preds games, who is a moron.
-
I'm watching the TSN feed. Is that color announcer the same moron who does the Preds games?

I don't see how MacLeod could give Sammy a B+. His analysis is pretty much spot on, but the grade is too high. He's a solid C, at best. He isn't a liability on the ice, but even for a streaky scorer has been a disappointment with only 6 goals (at least one of which was an empty netter). It's good that he's defensively responsible, but the Wings expect him to pot some goals, and he hasn't.

http://www.hockeywebcasts.com/ they have a links to the US canada game.

It took me a while to get on board, but I'm on the Sammy hate train. The only thing that makes it bearable is that he only makes 1.2 million a season. But he's there to pot some goals, and has been a major disappointment this season. He has 6 goals, at least one of which was an empty netter. I think he does pass, but he has no good instincts about it. I don't know how many times I've seen him do a nice job protecting the puck in the offensive zone, he looks around to make a play, gets flustered, and ends up dumping it back to the blueline for the defenseman to deal with.

Exactly. Of course I don't think her saying it really affected the outcome of Ozzy's shutout. But you just don't do it. And she knows that, which is exactly why she did. It never would've happened with Dom between the pipes. It's yet another example of her petty, fake support for Ozzy, and therefore the Red Wings. When Ozzy gets a shutout, she points out how few shots he faced while pretending to congratulate hiim. When he wins a game, she laments how the Wings didn't score that way for Dom. When he's on the verge of a shutout, she says it while the game is still going. Or points out how depleted the opponent's lineup is. When hasek plays well, she whines about where are all the haters now... It's all about Hasek, not the Red Wings. It's why she stopped coming here last time he retired, and was all over the Senators board when he played for them, and is now here because Dom came back. It has nothing to do with the Red Wings. That just happens to be who Hasek is playing for. all of which I could give a rat's ass about if I could still read a Game Day Thread that actually talks about the game, has some hockey analysis from Red Wings fans, without all the mopey, whiny passive aggressive b.s. /rant

I would've picked a different emoticon actually. i mean, who the f*ck says "shutout" in a GDT before the game is over? Gee, do you think she'd do that if her hero were in net?? Great game by the Wings. It's unfortunate that even with her on ignore, I can still barely stand these Game Day Threads.

What he said. I'll be disappointed if the Wings don't make a move at the deadline this year. They're a strong team right now, but will be scary good with a couple more pieces in place (toughness and size on the blueline, a legit 2nd line scoring threat).

Blake logs the second most minutes on that team. Only Visnosky plays slightly more and he's a -13. when you play nearly 23 minutes on a team as bad as the Kings, you're gonna be on the ice for a lot of goals, whether or not it was your fault. As I said before, my main issue with possibly bringing Blake here is his salary. I didn't realize how much money he was making in L.A.

I'm not too worried about the takeaways and giveaways stat. Takeaways and giveaways are about the most unreliable stat in hockey. There's really no standard, so it comes down to the discretion of the home stats guy. I'm not sure I can find it again, but last season one hockey blog compared the stats around the league, and they were ridiculously different depending on the team and where they played. Blog about the takeaway/giveaway stats

I'm a pretty big fan of the kid, though I don't get to see him play much, and even I was sick of them falling all over themselves to praise him. They showed that replay of him batting the puck into the air at least 15 times. That being said, every time I do see him play he's a factor out there on every shift, and has the hussle and work ethic of Kris Draper.
-
yeah, you could see the snow plowing up over the puck and stick as they stickhandled to the net. That had to make it nearly impossible to deke.
-
I thought it was a pretty nice move. He saw the 5 hole open and made a quick shot to snap it through. The crosby love this game was ridiculous though.
-
you're assuming he's watching the game.
-
I hoped. It's too bad that old-time pond hockey has to end in such a manufactured spectacle.
-
are you allowed to distract the goalie by throwing a snowball at him during the shootout?
-
ugh. shootout.
-
are they really going to stop 2 and a half minutes in to switch ends?? that's a little ridiculous.
-
Wow. big call at the end of the game. Looked like he just fell down to me.
-
Yeah. he gets a lot of undeserved hate just because of how much he's hyped, but this is friggin ridiculous. (I mean the hype is ridiculous).
-
He isn't. But it would be nice if they'd talk about some of the other players during this game.
-
While AO is definitely one of the league's elite players, it's kind of funny to me for him to be wanting them to add good players so they'll be a Cup contender, while simultaneously asking for a salary that greatly limits their ability to do just that.
-
Yeah, at 6'5" and 230 lbs. I think of Grimson as a true heavyweight. Mac I always considered more of a light heavyweight. He could hold his own with the big boys, but I didn't expect him to win them. As an all around player, I'd take McCarty in his prime, as he had a lot more to contribute to the team than Grimson could.

Hopefully he'll just get his act back together, whether it's in Detroit or somewhere else. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but IF he truly rededicates himself to hockey, IF he gets his life together, IF he actually is healthy, then I could see him back in the Winged Wheel, taking the spot of someone like Drake. As the article mentioned, Joey Kocur was playing beer league hockey, then came back to the Wings to win a Cup. Stranger things have happened.
