Agreed. Last season Simon uses his stick as a weapon. This season he uses his skate as a weapon. He needs to be done for the rest of the season and playoffs, at least. I cannot believe how incredibly stupid he is. Honestly, he should be gone from the league. Luckily there was no injury on the play, but he just came back this year from a record-setting suspension, and he does this? Does the league really want to wait for strike three? Simon stomps on Ruutu's foot with his skate.

Can you find the part where I called Burke a moron? yeah, thanks.
-
Exactly. And the Pronger deal pretty much fell in his lap because Pronger wanted out of Edmonton.
-
Sorry Gordie, I think your man-love for Burke is blinding you the same way his made man-love for Bertuzzi made him think he's a better player than he actually is. No, Burke isn't the worst GM in the league. But after winning the Cup, he failed to sign Penner and had him stolen, paid $4 mill for 2 years for Bert, got nothing for Bryzgalov, and now traded Andy McDonald for Doug Weight. There's not getting around that those are some mistakes. Niedermayer gets some of the blame for having him overpay for Schneider, but Burke still put himself in a position where he didn't have the cap room to sign upcoming RFA's like Perry. It's as if he can't think past one season at a time. If people think Holland gets too much credit here for the Cup winning teams, then Burke sure as hell does for winning the Cup last year. EDIT: grammar.
-
In and of itself, losing Penner is not a big fault. But his unwillingness to shell out for Penner, combined with paying $4 mill for Bert makes it a bad move by Burke. Yes it's tough to lock up RFA's, but that's the job of a good GM. Even if it seems like too much in the short term, a good GM should be able to evaluate their long-term talent and worth, and also the likelihood of some other team making an offer. Burke seems to be the ultimate short-term GM. I just don't see how a good GM can not manage to keep Penner, and at the same time throw that kind of money at Bertuzzi. Penner is seriously overpaid, but he had to be by Lowe or Burke would've just matched. And the floodgates are hardly wide open. Exactly how many RFA's have been picked up by other teams?
-
True. St. Louis just got better. But right now I'm just enjoying Burke making an awful deal. I'll consider the bigger implications later. Besides, come playoff time the Ducks will still be a much bigger hurdle than the Blues (if they make the playoffs. And if they do, fingers crossed, Legace will be in net).
-
Yes and yes. Next year was the problem, but under some CBA tagging rule, to bring Niedermayer back now they had to have cap space for him next year (he's signed through the 09 season). I wonder how many hockey fans still think Burke is the best GM out there? He's totally screwed himself. Overpaying for Bertuzzi, having Penner stolen, getting nothing for Bryzgalov, now getting Weight for McDonald? I'm loving this. Even if Holland gets a little too much credit for building the Cup winning teams, at least when he took over he didn't screw up the team like Burke is.

On the highlights they said that was the 9th shootout win for Edmonton this season. Is that right??? 9 of their 15 wins have been from that fake event?!
-
Nah. In Joe Louis the empty seats are red.

Zetterberg: The Motor City's clutch.

you beating this dead horse is getting as annoying as the people who post here mainly to worship Dom or make excuses for every bad play he makes.
-
No disrespect? You just said you hoped he's out for the season. I get that you don't like him, but cheering a Wings player's injury is a pretty sh*tty thing to do.

If Bettman stepped down as commissioner....

you're really going to back that up with something. Maybe by 98 clutch and grab had taken hold (pardon the pun) but in 93 and 94 hockey was probably the most popular it's ever been, and very entertaining compared to how it' been since. -
You'd think he'd have talked things over with the coaching staff before revealing it to the press. If the coach is finding things out about his goaltender's health from reporters, something is screwy. And in this case, it's Legace.
-
I have to admire your restraint Gordie (I'm being totally serious). Didn't Dats' latest goal outburst start when he got moved back to center? Suddenly the thread you started, even if your original point got massively derailed by people with no reading comprehension skills, looks prescient.
-
Yup. I'll admit I was one of those people who thought this deal was probably too long. I was worried locking him up for that long would have too negative an impact on Holland being able to maneuver with other players. Right now it's a fair deal. Hopefully Dats will stay healthy and keep performing in the regular season and playoffs, then in a couple seasons it will absolutely be a steal.
-
Yeah, that's why I said "even for a goalie." To stand out as cuckoo for cocoa puffs among that crowd is really saying something.
-
Exactly. Ripping on Crosby for these tiny things, like being named a third star (which he has no control over), is just as bad as the people who praise him for every little thing and make it sound like he scored a highlight reel goal just by farting at the puck. Actually, that would be a highlight reel goal, but I think the point still stands.
-
It's things like this that make me glad Legace is gone. Great backup, decent starter, but even for a goaltender, he doesn't have it all quite together between the ears.

I think a lot of people are missing the attempted humor of the people listed on that Sportsnet poll. -
You guys complain about him getting so much attention, yet there's three ******* threads about him getting the third star. Exactly who is the real problem here? this is ridiculous. (see the other two threads about Crosby for the simple explanation of why he got named).
-
No kidding. Why all the crosby hate? As I said in the other thread, they almost always try and pick one of the three stars from the losing team. Crosby was the only player on the Pens who had a two-point night. There's no conspiracy here. Jeez. we're talking about something as unimportant as being chosen one of the stars for the night. It's not like it's the Hart Trophy or anything.
-
They usually try to pick at least one star from the other team, even if it's a token performance. Crosby assisted on both the Pens goals. He was the only player on the Pens who scored two points. Who should they have picked?

It is about time for another Flyers player to get suspended, isn't it?
