Basically that he was showing up late to practice, skipping optional practices. Last one on the ice, first one off, that sort of thing. This was all when he was coming back from injury I think and wasn't starting. Jones's opinion was he wasn't putting in the time to get himself back in form as the starter. On Topic: Wohooo Flip!

slightly off topic, but it was interesting hearing Keith Jones talk about Emery during the intermission. I hadn't heard any of those bad things about him. If they're true, it's too bad. he's a talented guy and had a great year.

Wow. I think all the Flames were standing around trying to figure out how he did that with the puck. dingle dangle...
-
Weird. I've never seen that. It's one thing to kick around a soccerball in the hallways, but I don't get kicking a puck around on the ice in sneakers when you're a hockey player.

Nope.

what is this magical link and whereever did you find it?! This rocks!

This is kind of off topic, but I just read this on TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/mckenzie/?id=223720 He goes onto the ice in running shoes to play with the puck?? That's an odd pre-game ritual.

Yeah, I'm always a little taken back by what a homer announcer Gare is. You'd think he'd at least be a little less biased when they play Detroit, as former captain of the Red Wings. It's a great example of what a lot of people here have been saying. While it may not prevent guys from running at your star players, it still does send a message. It does make a difference.

I like this quote from Hartnell in the article: Umm, actually Scott, you are. you've proved it over and over. Hartnell had him lined up before Alberts went to his knees, but he still had plenty of time to avoid him, instead of basically hip-checking his head into the dasher. The league needs to go after Philly in a big way. This is getting ridiculous.

Hossa would be great, but man would the Wings have to clear house to fit his salary in, especially when you factor in Zetterberg re-signing after the 09 season. They'd have at least 20 mill in salary tied up in Z, Dats and Hossa. And I'm guessing Lids will still get a decent chunk.

Burke wants GM's to be able to accumulate dead money
haroldsnepsts replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Why do that? The GM's bitched about how they couldn't run a profitable franchise, now here they are trying to figure out a way to overpay players again. It drives me nuts. Though honestly I'm betting this would benefit the Red Wings because of their deep pockets. They could take a gamble on a player by paying him a high salary, but still have an out if he doesn't live up to expectations. They could take the payroll hit to be rid of him, and I'm betting it's not gonna count against the cap. -
I agree you'll probably get flack for that, but at this point why not try it? Throwing Kopecky up on the second line with Dats or Z, I don't see how much worse he could do than the other guys. I think there's a low percentage of it working out, but if he could use his size, maybe playing with some talent will ignite his scoring touch. (yes, I know I'm dreaming)

just out of curiousity, why let cleary walk? I don't see getting naslund, especially at 4 mill. but i'd be happy with Rolston, who's currently making 2.43 mill.

Of anyone on that list the Wings should be looking for a 2nd liner with a scoring touch. Not to beat a dead horse, but we're 23 games in and it's becoming more and more obvious that they're a one line team. After ZDH, Dan Cleary has the most goals of any forward with 7. Hudler, Filp, Sammy start to show promise, but are streaky at best. We need a consistent threat.

I've not heard of Dom being so much a lockerroom cancer. A prima donna, definitely. But honestly I think that's not a big deal when you're talking about goaltenders. They're a weird breed anyway and dont' really have linemates. Them being high maintenance could be an annoyance, but I doubt it disrupts the team too much. He's one of the greatest to ever play the game. I honestly could care less how nice of a guy he seems off the ice. So far this season though, he's played like dogcrap. That I do care about.

Downey gets games cleaner. Now with spring fresh scent!

Anyone else think Gordie Howe is a little money hungry?
haroldsnepsts replied to WingNutt's topic in General
I can see where his wife is coming from on one hand. Gordie is one of the greatest hockey players of all time. He should be able to live comfortably from what he's done for the sport. But she does seem overbearing from what I've experienced and heard. I remember waiting in line to have him sign his autobiography and his wife signed it too. I was thinking "umm, I really just wanted Gordie's thanks," but didn't say anything. Not that it mattered since she signed it without asking anyway. It just seemed a little strange and presumptious on her part. I wouldn't want Wayne Gretzky's wife signing anything either, and she at least was an actress... -
Wait until Osgood has a less than stellar performance. This place will erupt. It comes with being the starting goaltender. Dom apparently is still the starter, so it comes with the territory.
-
oh I see. so Dom faces the high quality shots, and Ozzy gets the easy ones. If a shutout is a shutout, then why mention the number of shots at all? Other than to imply it was an easy one? you are the queen of passive aggressive comments when it comes to goalies. pointing out when the puck hits a post and Ozzy didnt make a save. pointing out the low shot total on a shutout. And your "support" for Ozzy is pretty transparent. I wonder if Dom gets a 12 shot shutout if you'd post the number of shots. Or maybe you'd complain about how people try and not give him credit for it because of the low shot total and how unfairly Dom is always treated in your eyes. Ozzy is playing well Dom isn't. Not saying that won't change, but that's the way it is right now, no matter how much you campaign for Dom, it doesn't change that.
-
I'm just trying to clarify. Against Columbus it was Ozzy's stats being padded by the team allowing all these shots on him. Now this last game it was an easy shutout for him because of the low shot totals?
-
why specify the number of shots in Ozzy's shut out? They all count the same no matter how many he faced. are you implying that it was easier because of the lack of shots? Because I thought it was that same lack of shots that accounted for Dom's poor performance.
