Because when he took over the game in 1993, it was in good shape and one of the more popular sports. Now he's turned it into a second-tier sport and his failed economic vision has cost us a season and a half.
-
and the other thread you posted the pic in... and making it your avatar... and saying your favorite Lidstrom moment was the puck deflecting off his stick... weren't you leaving? See, when you go to the fan site of a team you beat in the Conference finals and create a thread and say "to end it on a good note I'll leave you with this," then post a pic of yourself holding the Cup, to me you just seem like a dick. Obviously a Ducks fan holding the Cup is not a good note to those of us here. And you'd already rubbed it in in at least two other threads.

Hopefuly he'd rather keep having career years here in Detroit than taking more money to go rot somewhere like Philly. I wonder where Kariya's gonna be playing next year, because I have a feeling it won't be with the Preds.
-
definitely helps, thanks.
-
No kidding. Considering how few people were going to Wings games, or to downtown in general, when Illitch got that lease, they should still be thanking him. Even though it is an unbelievably good deal for him, he's done a lot for the city. Including the 2.5 million Detroit gets every year from ticket surcharges at Cobo and the Joe.
-
huh. I either never knew or forgot that. I thought they all happened the same date as the UFA.
-
I guess I'm a little fuzzy on how all this works. The trade deadline for the 2007 season has obviously passed, so I thought they technically could not be traded or signed in any capacity until July 1, when they became UFAs. after the season ends, is the market back open for trades?
-
you gotta admit though, its a pretty big hit to lose Hartnell AND Timonen. Combined they had almost 100 points last season. I didn't expect the Preds to keep them both, but I sure didn't see em both going to Philly for 6 years either.
-
well that was my original point. that Sergei was hardly the offense force he used to be. but Eva seemed to imply it was because they had him on D half the season. and honestly I haven't seen enough of them to know if that was true or not.
-
Wow. And two 6 year deals at that. I never would've seen this coming. The Preds knew they couldn't sign either Hartnell or Timmonen??? And I didn't know this was technically legal to do before July 1st. Well this pretty much answers the question if the Preds are going to try to put a strong team on the ice in Nashville next season. They sure gave up a lot to get a first round pick back. almost as if they were giving up on next season and looking ahead a couple years...

Does anyone know much about the UFAs they suggest at the end of the article? (Rivet, Sutton, Tanabe) I like the way Rivet and Tanabe sound on paper, but don't really know anything about those guys. I agree about Hudler. The guy has made a lot of his limited ice time, and hopefully that will increase his trade value a little. The Wings are long on talent and short on size (no pun intended). They don't need goons, but they need to get some bigger bodies in the lineup.
-
I knew they were playing him on the blueline a litte, but I didn't think it was most of the second half of the season. why? because they're so deep on offense??
-
you should remember from our exchanges a while back SWF, that's hardly me blowing a gasket. I just thought he was being an ass and let him know it. How does this concern you exactly?
-
Did you read my initial post? http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=1102154 I was fine with the first few times he was gloating. I'm just getting sick of it. and we're plenty light here, thanks.
-
You mean that pic of me holding the Cup. And it doesn't make you any less of an ass for once again coming here and gloating about it in another thread, this time even going so far as to start the thread yourself. When the Wings won any of their three Cups, I can't imagine bothering to go to an Avalanche or Stars site to gloat about the Cup and posting pics of it in numerous threads.
-
Then how did CBC manage to get the broadcast out, considering it was their truck that caught fire, and Versus couldn't??? It doesn't make sense. And I've never said they should just carry the CBC feed. If the NHL is going to be their sport, they should have their own coverage. The CBC truck catching fire delaying their broadcast is either a B.S. excuse or Versus is once again proving they're about as competent as a cable access channel. When Versus first started covering hockey, it was a mess. But I was hoping since it was allegedly to be one of their featured sports, they would get their act together and quality would improve. It hasn't. Is that so hard to understand?
-
that's where you went wrong.
-
you know, the first couple times you posted this in a thread, I thought, okay, the Ducks won. He's got a reason to be excited and gloat a little. Then when you chiimed in the thread about your favorite Lidstrom moment being when the shot deflected off his stick and past Dom, I thought you were kind of being an ass. Clearly that wasn't the intent of the thread. But now that you create a whole thread here on the Wings site and post the alleged pic of you with the Cup yet again, I just think you're a dick. So I can't say I'm sad to see you go. Odder still that the picture of the Cup you keep posting everywhere, you can't even see the person's face. See, that's actually me in the pic holding the Cup. And you refer to yourself in the third person. As for touching the Stanley Cup. I'd have no qualms about it because I don't play in the NHL. I definitely wouldn't lick it like that idiot girl from Heroes, but I wouldn't be afraid to touch it since I'll never actually win it. Mostly I'd just want to find Yzerman's name on there. Then Gordie's. Edited for grammar.

For those of you irritated by all the empty seats this season and playoffs. Looks like the Wings are hiring to try and solve the problem. NHL Official Job board It'd be cool if someone from LGW.com got the job, so we'd know who to yell at.
-
If anyone gets a job out of this, I expect my commission for posting it.
-
The NHL was poised for that kind of success in the mid-90s. then Bettman took over as commissioner.
-
the problem with both of those theories is they assume Eklund actually has a source for his information, other than his own ass.
-
Ken Daniels may be considered for Hockey Night in Canada job

why does anyone owe Bettman an apology? Versus still treats the NHL like its ugly step-child. I cut them slack at first because the deal came together so last second, but their handling of the NHL has hardly improved. And a real network like ESPN would've had their own broadcast truck at the event instead of just piggybacking CBC's. I also don't get how the technical difficulties hit CBC the hardest, yet they still managed to get their broadcast out live (or close to it) yet it was Versus who was affected in such a way they had to delay several hours. -
Exactly. I'm guessing it was less about Gretzky and Oates, and more about some of the things he's said to the refs over the years.

I'm pretty happy with all the winners, with the exception of Brindamour for Selke. I think it should have been Pahlsson, and can't help wonder how the votes might have been different if Pahlsson played on the east coast and Brind'Amour on the west. And it ain't that exciting to see Brodeur win another Vezina, but he's a legitimate choice. And I have a feeling Luongo's time will be coming very soon.
