    2007 NHL Awards Show

Nah, that's not a weird way of thinking. I'm just shallow. I didn't realize the first place winner gets $10,000. Maybe I changed my mind about this award.

This sounds harsh, but honestly I think if he won a better award, he'd be there. It's not a reflection on Dats. I probably wouldn't show up just to get the Lady Byng either. I mean, did they have to put "Lady" in the title, to make it an even less manly award? Who wants to win the nicest guy award in a tough sport like hockey?

I'm not sure anyone will match Orr's eight straight. But I'd be happy with Nick passing Borque. I know he was a good D-man, but I've just never liked the guy.

True. And it's not like they can threaten to go somewhere else. If they've sunk as low as Versus, who the hell else would carry the NHL? It's like by going with them, the NHL seemed to think they'd be the big fish in a smaller pond instead of a neglected fish on ESPN. But Versus isn't exactly treating the NHL as their flagship sport.

5 Norris trophies. that ties Lids with Borque, doesn't it?

    2007 NHL Awards Show

No kidding. This is almost as bad as NBC possibly cutting away from a playoff game to go to the horse racing preshow. I'm guessing it's because they have zero leverage right now because of the crappy ratings. Still, they should've been able to get more from Versus. oh, and congrats to Nick! some of you guys were starting to get me worried with all the talk of Niedermayer winning it. Congrats to Vinny and Crosby too.

agreed. I think he was the least deserving.

    I wasn't referring to boucher.

Kessel did. I think the guy who came back from cancer during the season deserves it a wee bit more than a goalie who's just old and has a questionable groin. He came back from testicular cancer, competed in the young all stars game a a couple months later and scored a hat trick. I think he only missed maybe 10 or 15 games during the season.

I figured you didn't want him to win. you just shouldn't even utter such horrible words.

If we're not supposed to talk about the winners in the NHL Awards show thread, then what exactly are we supposed to talk about?

so is anyone actually watching the show right now? According to the guys on hfboards, Brindamour won the selke. He wasn't exactly my top pick.

    2007 NHL Awards Show

you'd think the NHL would try to coordinate with at least one station so the awards could be shown live.

Well at least with Versus, the NHL is a real priority. stupid versus.

    NHL needs to improve marketing

Pretty funny. They're hiring in Detroit for a Season Ticket rep.

    Lang

Whenever I hear Ulf's name, I immediately associate him with ending Neely's career. Samuelsson was one of the prototypes for all the players I hate in the NHL. Guys who "agitate" and cheapshot and hide behind giant pads and linesman and never square up for their actions. Another good clip of Cam with none other than Claude Lemieux. The turtle didn't make his first appearance against McCarty...
  21. haroldsnepsts

    Lang

Ulfie definitely made a career out of cheapshots. Or should I say ended careers with his cheapshots. Overall he's probably worse as a player. But in Bert's one incident, he probably did more damage to the game.

What is your favorite Nicklas Lidstrom moment/play?

Actually that's usually how the forwards block shots. They're the ones out covering the point, where most slappers are taken. As I said before, a lot of times the D-man shouldn't go down because he's taking himself out of the play right around the net. To fault Lidstrom for not blocking enough shots is hilarious to me. Maybe he should line up all his Norris trophies on the ice so they can block the slapshots instead.
  23. haroldsnepsts

    Lang

well, he's a good candidate, but I was referring to a current Wing. (well, technically he's a UFA in a couple weeks)
  24. haroldsnepsts

    Lang

so if people want Lang back, they must not be fans who care? I've never seen or read anything that even comes close to supporting him being a cancer in the lockerroom. As I said before, it's probably time for Lang to go. He fit better the first couple years here and actually performed, especially in the playoffs when no one else could. His value on this team has diminished. But don't you think your hatred for him is a wee bit over the top? And I can think of at least one player on the Wings who in the past has been a bigger disgrace to the game.

What is your favorite Nicklas Lidstrom moment/play?

How is that a horrible play? It's easy to pick out that one time the puck takes a fluke bounce that leads to a goal, but you're forgetting all the times he makes the same play and saves a goal. By "having the courage" to lay in front of it, Lidstrom would completely take himself out of the play. He rarely does because when the puck is in the zone he's often within 15 feet of the net. Falling down to block the shot is usually a terrible idea because he'd take himself out of the play and miss his defensive assignment around the net It's like when people were complaining about his play on the Iginla goal. 99 times out of 100 Nick cuts off or at least disrupts the pass, so it's a little whiny to criticize him for the one time that play doesn't work out and leads to a goal. It's armchair quarterbacking (or armchair defense playing, as the case may be). He didn't make a bad play, he just got beat. It happens on occasion, even to Lidstrom. You can tell Lidstrom was gassed on that play too. Watch how he's skating. His legs look like they weigh 200 lbs each, then he heads straight to the bench.
