    McGratton might play

It's a bad move for Ottawa, unless of course those two minutes involve hiim putting a beat down on Pronger.

Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head

Pronger didn't have him lined up to make contact, so he threw his elbow out to try and catch a piece of him. Sure if the guy was taller, Pronger might have gotten him in the body. But you have to be responsible for the elbows you throw. He stuck his out and caught a player in the head. That's gotta be another game suspension, at least. I'm sure somehow it's Rob Neidermayer's fault.

    should the wings trade kronwall

No. The Wings have him signed long term, and honestly with his injury history, i can't see them getting a lot for him via trade. Kronwall has a lot of upside, the guys just incredibly injury prone.

If the Ducks win the Cup?

I'm not sure what he's getting at either. That Crosby played with a broken foot the last month of the season and in the playoffs? Yeah, that was obviously a lame excuse to explain away his 3 goals and 2 assists in 5 playoff games against Ottawa (do I need to point out that they're currently playing for the Stanley Cup?). As for the Wings being the best team if Anaheim wins, last time I checked, they beat us. They're the better team. Short of god stepping in and smiting the other team, the best team wins the Stanley Cup. No excuses. Anaheim found a way to beat Detroit.

    Perhaps a silly question...

Maybe Yzerman was trying to subtly say, "You're not just playing in the big leagues because Chicago is such a garbage team. You're good enough to be playing on a legit team like the Red Wings."

    Kozzie a Wing again?

If anything, the fact that they got Hasek (who had just won another Vezina) in exchange for only Kozlov and a 1st rounder shows how valuable Slava was at the time. And no I'm not 20 years old or younger. As I said earlier, I always liked Kozlov. Streaky, but clutch in the playoffs. He's not really what the Wings need right now though.

Anaheim not exactly the new Hockeytown

umm, why the hell would the NHL put an article on their website like that? Yeah, let's post an article about how the hometown of one of the Stanley Cup finalists could care less about hockey! When it comes to promoting hockey, the NHL is its own worst enemy.

    Nashville Staying put!

Bettman has never let the truth get in the way of his statements to the press. He's about as reliable a source as Eklund. One good thing about the Preds staying in Nashville is at least they're relatively close to Detroit. The last thing they need is another team moving out west to add to their already ridiculous travel.

    Kirk Maltby

I agree. I was a little surprised at the signing, even though they got him cheap. But this playoffs he showed he's still useful. Hopefully that will continue. his being on the PK doesn't count against him in +/-. the only thing that counts for plus-minus on the PK is if someone scores a shorthanded goal, then he gets a +1.

    Robert Lang

He wasn't brought here to crash and bang. But he's a big guy, which makes him hard to move off the puck. Like I said, he was a disappointment this season. But he gets more grief here than he deserves.

    An Enforcer

No thanks. Avery's finally getting his crap together in new york. I don't know why he'd want to leave. And he's hardly an enforcer. He's like Maltby, only with a better scoring touch, and he doesn't turtle quite as much.
  12. haroldsnepsts

    Robert Lang

I bet that's not true. Lang was a disappointment this season, especially at his salary. But he's a big body and can still score goals. He's probably good for 20 goals and 30 assists. Someone will pick him up. He always got too much crap on this forum, but it probably is time to see him leave. I know I sound like a Barnes brother, I just don't want his roster spot filled by adding another small skill center. Lang never gets enough credit for his strength on the puck.

    Kozzie a Wing again?

I've always liked Slava and if they could get him cheap, sure. I wish they'd dump Samuelsson and Calder to pick up Kozzy and a physical RW. (yes I know Samuelsson is signed through 09, but I can dream). Honestly though after watching this years playoffs, even though they played gritty and played well beyond their size, the Wings need to get bigger. Kozlov isn't gonna help in that department.

    Potential New Arena Discussion

I actually had much more sentimental attachment to Tiger Stadium than I do to the Joe, and I'm not really a baseball fan anymore. The corporate name is inevitable, though annoying. Can't we as Detroit fans just refuse to call it by whatever corporate name it gets, calling it Yzerman Arena instead? The one thing I'd miss about the Joe is the great sightlines. It's a dump, but a well built arena for watching hockey. Any new one will likely have mid-level luxury boxes that'll make upper bowl seats much worse.

    An Enforcer

That's the thing I think some people are missing when they talk about the days of having Probert on the team. Probert was an enforcer for sure, but not just a goon. He freed up a lot of room for Stevie and Gallant and could use his hands for more than crushing guy's skulls.` When he was healthy and played most of a season for the Wings, he was usually good for 15-20 goals and 20+ assists and played both wings. And for an interesting trivia note, Probert held the Wings single season playoff points record with 8 goals and 13 assists in 16 games in the 1988 playoffs until Fedorov broke it in 95 (and later Stevie tied Feds). So I'd love to have a guy like Probert on the Wings, if a player like that even exists anymore. But I'm not that interested in just an enforcer.

Does everyone want Bert to re-sign?

If they could sign him for a year, and cheap, I could see it. His health is just such a question mark. There's a fair chance he'll never be the power forward he was or could've been.

    Chelios not shaking hands . . .

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...0445/1128/rss16 I'd still have preferred he shook hands, but I understand it.

Should the Wings target UFA-to-be Giguere?

I don't see it happening because Giguere's price is going up with every game he wins. The only thing that might bring it down a bit is when he loses again in the Cup finals, people may wonder if he just doesn't have what it takes to win it all.

So you know, if I had to make one change...

It doesn't matter much to me either way, but I could see going back to the old conference names since the actual conferences make no geographic sense. I don't know how many times I'll go glance down to check a Pistons score and automatically start checking in the Western Conference. Then I have this moment of "Oh, right. Detroit actually is in the eastern part of the country." The NHL has made me forget that.

You know you're a Detroit Red Wings fan if...

..you know the proper way to cook an octopus for stuffing it down your pants.

Is the jury still out on Babcock?

I can't see how this is even a question anymore. He took an undersized skill team and changed them in a way they could compete in the postseason. The guys Holland brought in (Calder, Bertuzzi) had little to do with the increase in grit on the team. Lilja was dropping the gloves for chrissakes. I know we're all disappointed that they didn't beat the Ducks, especially because they didn't seem like the better team, but I can't imagine a harder road for the "soft bunch of euros" than to meet Calgary, then San Jose, then Anaheim in the playoffs. The Wing had a lot of regular season success, but no one outside of Detroit really gave them much credit because they'd seen it before. In the playoffs they really showed something.

Free Agent Names to Look At

I don't get it. The stats I found for him in the postseason, he was 57% on faceoffs. that's pretty damn good. And with Stevie gone, he's still easily one of the best faceoff guys on the team.

Free Agent Names to Look At

Agreed. If the Wings do sign Bert I'm guessing it's gonna be short term, and at a discount. I know he was coming off surgery and missed most of the season, but I'm just not sold on his place with the team.

    Round of Applause + Congratulations

This is off topic, but I didn't want to start a whole new thread for it. With the Wings current ticket prices, the salary cap and the Wings making it to the Conference finals, can you imagine what a boatload of money Illitch just made?? I hope he's getting everyone on the team some nice presents. And throws the fan a bone by lowering ticket prices next season, especially the playoffs (though I doubt it will happen).

    A Little Help

I'm not 100%, but I don't think Vladdy ever wore the A. I don't know that his english was really good enough, plus he was better as the vladinator than as a diplomat on the ice. Just doesn't seem like he'd be the guy they'd pick. I'm not sure Larionov ever even wore the A. and on a side note, funny how no matter what red wings player I try and google, it inevitably turns up pics of Yzerman.
