Hmm, I dunno. Maybe there'd actually be discussions about hockey? You Duck fans gotta understand, while most of you are just messing around and probably aren't trolls, before the first round all the Calgary fans show up and we have post after post of "Flame in 3!" and about how physical the flames are, how great the goaltending is, and how old the Wings are... blah blah blah. Then the Wings beat the Flames, and out come the SJ fans. "San Jose in 5! They're bigger, they're younger, your old farts on the Wings are gonna get Pwn3d! it's ludacris how bad we're gonna beat you guys!!!" Then the Wings beat the Sharks. And here come the Duck fans. "the wings are old! you're gonna get crushed!" It just gets a little tired is all. After the third go round, patience wears thin.

wait, that sounds strangely familiar. are we back in 1997? dang, Matt beat me to it! San Jose is a better bet to suck in the next few years. They've become the Senators of the West. In the off-season I'm guessing they're off to see the Wizard in hopes they can find some heart, brains, and courage.

probably because he watched a whole game once in the late 80s, and he kinda remembers hearing something about a big brawl with colorado. He's either that out of touch with the game, or he thinks the fans are idiots. or both.

Samuelsson?

Holy crap! We're up 2-0? I'm worried, do the Wings remember how to play with a lead?

so in your world you know that: a) I don't watch the Devils play hockey b) me sayin Brodeur is a good goalie is really just a ruse, because really I'm just saying all this because I don't like you?? Seriously dude, wtf is your problem? You keep acting like I have some vendetta against you. I don't. Jeez. It's like St. Louis fans thinking they've got some big rivalry with Detroit, and Detroit fans not really thinking twice about them. The only reason I'm posting is because you're wrong about Brodeur and your reasoning is laughably faulty. but if you'd like to chat more about my personal quest to hassle you, feel free to PM me. I'm afraid we've derailed this insightful thread enough as it is. (edited for clarity)

that's why your argument holds no water and is delusional, "kiddo." Because you believe on the whole, year after year, Brodeur's team somehow stops the difficult shots and only lets through the easier ones. And that on the whole, Luongo's are somehow much harder night after night. If Jersey could figure out that system year after year, I think pretty much the whole league would adopt it. It's ridiculous, and about the strongest example that your weird obsession with Brodeur is skewing your perspective. I was being sarcastic because the idea is so obviously ludicruos. What's funnier is that you truly believe it. Also, the fact that you seem to consider this the same New Jersey team as in the 90s makes me wonder if you ever watch the games. (I also like how you tell me I haven't watched him. It must be nice to know everything and always be right). but go on, fight the power! tell it brother! let the truth be known! you're one small voice who only sees the truth, but you shall lead the way! so yes, I'm making jokes, because your argument about Brodeur is a total joke.

you're irritation with me is pretty hysterical. the real question is what would we do without you, other than have a lot less obsessive threads about Brodeur being overrated. and I'm not quite sure what you meant about me not being the one to imply someone shouldn't hold a grudge. who exactly is my grudge against? (other than perhaps your stupid threads, but we're talking about players here) Yes, tell Matt this site should be renamed LetsgoMarty because most of the people here agree with the rest of the planet that Brodeur is one of the best goalies of his generation. So how does it work that his team got him there exactly? This season Brodeur had a .922 save percentage, Luongo for reference had .921. Marty made 2011 saves to Luongo's 1998 saves. He played 2 more games than Luongo. Brodeur also had 12 shutouts to Luongo's 5. So games played are pretty close. The number of shots they faced are pretty close. Yet Brodeur has the better save percentage and 7 more shutouts. I guess the only reasonable explanation is that somehow New Jersey blocks all the really hard shots, letting only the easiest ones through so Brodeur ends up looking better than he actually is? As always, the numbers don't tell the whole story. But watching Marty play over the years, it's pretty baseless to attribute so much of his success to New Jersey. If you could watch hiim without the weird chip on your shoulder, you'd probably see that.

No, I'm pissed they allowed a goal on what was clearly an offsides play last year. 3 of his 4 legs were in the zone, and as you know, you need at least 50% of your legs behind the blueline when the puck crosses. They were robbed. And I'm so freaking sick of playing Saturn 20 times a year. They're a bunch of redspots who don't know a thing about the sport. The NHL should contract from at least three planets.

Hey, I'm younger than Cheli. And Lidstrom, actually. But yeah, I know. Like I said, I understand it. But I can't help being more interested in the old teams than in an expansion franchise. And even next year when they replace them, they'll still be sweaters not jerseys. Gotta hang on to that history. And I think Neptune is overrated because they're in a weak orbit. It pads their stats.
-
...even if it has nothing to do with reality. The singular hatred for Brodeur by a handful of people here is kinda funny actually. He's not the greatest ever, but he's one of the greatest of this generation for sure. He'd probably fair better in the playoffs if New Jersey would actually rest him for a few games during the regular season. The reality is the Devils weren't that good this year and Marty was a large part of their regular season success.
-
He's not saying that the original six teams should get some advantage due to their history. It's merely an article lamenting the days gone by, and honestly there's a few good stories in there from the old days. I'm not one of those guys who thinks every fan in Nashville is a hillbilly who doesn't know anything about hockey, but honestly I'd be much more interested in a Chicago Toronto Stanley Cup final, or virtually any other original six matchup than I would watching teams like Carolina or Anaheim play for the Cup. The original six teams in the Cup finals feels like old time hockey. While I understand it's just the changing game, the expansion franchises just seems... weird.
-
Can't we just have Lidstrom play all 60 minutes?
-
This is a big loss to the Wings blueline, but considering we beat San Jose without Schneider for most of the game today (and only 5 d-men), I think there's a lot of things to still be positive about.
-
The Wings need to win one more, then we can worry about that.
-
Well craptacular. Hopefully Lebda will be back. And what's the status on Kronwall? though it's a little scary to have him coming back in the playoffs after being out for this length of time.
-
whatever happened to that moron anyways. Shouldn't his suspension from the site be over by now?
-
No kidding. What about the guy who tackled Z and laid on him?
-
I think the Datsyuk play was a little lucky. But it's funny how the guys who work the hardest usually seem to have the most "luck."

Canadian Politicians upset with Shane Doan as Team Canadas Captain

Just thought I'd mention that Doan had a hat trick for Canada against Belarus. http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/news/story?id=2860369 -
Actually, I thought it had a decent point at the start, ableit a minor one. And I wasn't doing anything but leaving this trainwreck.
