I can understand him not really calling out the refs in an interview. Versus ain't great, but I'm willing to give it a chance if hockey stays a flagship sport on the station, intstead of it being somewhere behind poker or dog shows on ESPN. That answer was classic Bettman. Either he's an idiot and doesn't understand the difference, or he's intentionally misrepresenting what fans are telling him. Lack of hitting and concern about all the cheap shots are not mutually exclusive. The new rules did affect the amount of hitting, but there's also been a lot more shots to the head. It's not unreasonable for fans to what more hits, but clean ones. yeah. that 60% is a crock. there's a positive for the owners in terms of lack of travel, but the fans don't really care about that. an away game is an away game. it'd be nice to see some different opponents once in a while instead of these fictional rivalries that Bettman keeps alluding to. There needed to be some limits on owners spending, since they clearly couldn't control themselves, but I do agree that parity is not good. The NHL is more popular when there's a few teams that are powerhouses. why do you think all these people around the country are Red Wings fans? They're not all former Michiganders. Having Tampa win one year, then Carolina, then whoever, then another team next year isn't that exciting. Especially when the teams that played for the Cup last year don't even make the playoffs. Again, that's standard Bettman doublespeak. He gets booed everywhere, but talks about how fans come up and tell him how much they love the game. Even if it's true, that's the majority opinion that's booing you Gary.

Bettman: There is nothing wrong with the NHL or its schedule. Any report about lack of ratings or fan unhappiness is a result of the liberal media trying to advance their own unpopular agenda. Anything you say criticizing the game undermines the NHL and hurts the morale of the players. Why do you hate hockey?

so I had this dream the other night where I was back in high school, eating lunch in the cafeteria. only it wasn't really my high school cafeteria, but in my dream I knew it was supposed to be. you know how that happens in dreams? anyway, what's weird is I'm sitting across the table from Hawkeye and BJ from M*A*S*H. We're all eating lunch together with a few of my friends. And my girlfriend from high school is sitting with us too. She's the girl I'm taking to prom (and the girl I really took to prom), and I'm thinking, I don't even like this girl. Why am I taking her? and I want to ask Hawkeye for advice, but can't do it in front of her. So it's me, Hawkeye, BJ and my girlfriend eating lunch, and the whole time I'm just hoping my girlfriend will leave so I can talk to Hawkeye. So I guess the moral of the story is that I like pizza. (and off topic, this thread had a totally different name when I made my initial post).

Now that should be a Gordie Howe hat trick of some kind.

Because we got beat by a better team? nice cheapshot at Hasek, by the way. Homer hasn't potted any this postseason yet, but it's gonna be nice to have a 30-goal scorer back in the lineup. If Nabokov wore a goalie-cam next game, all you'd see is a close-up of Holmstrom's ass.

Even before we signed Bert, I predicted he would be a playoff washout. Bad back, hasn't played in a long while. With 2 goals and 2 assists, he's actually done better than I thought. He had a bad game. Maybe Babcock should chew him out or cut his minutes if he makes another boneheaded play like that elbow, but I'd be awful reluctant to sit a 6'3" 245 lb physical forward against the Sharks unless he was a total liability.

Creating a thread title that has absolutely nothing to do with the content of your lengthy post isn't exactly the greatest way to get your point across, if you had one.

The One and Only Positive I Have Faith, Kumbayah"

Because it couldn't possibly be that the Wings were outplayed, or that their opponent is any good. It's gotta be that they suck. The coaching is terrible. They're lazy. The goaltending was bad. They're uninspired. They don't care if they win or not. -
Actually I think it does say something about the defense when he can fake like that and has time to toe drag it across and flip it in the open net without getting decked by someone.
-
I was taking a guess based on what I'd remembered hearing. But actually it's 6'4" and 235. http://www.sjsharks.com/team/player.asp?player_id=29

Yeah, it's turned out to look like a sucker deal by Boston, but honestly they were in kind of a no win situation. Joe just wasn't happy there and wasn't playing well. Getting out was the best thing that could've happened for his career.

If Holland didn't suck so bad we could have Thornton and Luongo on the team right now and be kicking everyone's ass!!

Homer could probably set a record for most goals scored with the least amount of time actually touching the puck. A tip here. a poke there. occasionally sliding into the net with the goalie. I totally agree. when I see him skating with the puck I think "he knows how to puckhandle??" -
No kidding! Can't people just enjoy a great hard fought series, even if it means you're going to lose some games? This is not the underacheiving Red wings team getting swept in the first round. Let go of the trauma from the past...

I don't think anyone was disagreeing with those Sharks fans. But there was a guy who was bringing it up in every single thread, even when completely unrelated to the topic. There's no denying the Sharks are a big team.

No. Apparently after playing this style for his entire career, winning a Stanley Cup with the Wings in 2002 with this syle, and amassing 6 Vezinas playing this style, people here now want him to become a stand-up goaltender so they can feel better while they watch him play.

What high horse? He's absolutely right. the key to your statement is the part about having merit. After a loss, so many threads are lacking in that department. -

No. But Nabokov hasn't had the pleasure of staring at Homer's backside yet in this series. Having his big body be a constant presence at the edge of Nabby's crease. You can't stop what you can't see. Even on the goals he doesn't touch the puck, Holmstrom is usually a factor. -
It's a mess to look at, but his flopping works. It looks like he's totally lost out there, but over the years I think he's more than proven that his technique, or lack thereof, is extremely effective. People here seriously need to grow up. After a loss it's "the coach sucks," or "Hasek flops" or "(insert players name here) sucks!" If you guys can't handle playoff hockey and the prospect of losing, maybe it's best you don't watch.
-
No. If it's not just about you being angry from the loss, then why didn't you post this thread after any of the wins? why wait until today?

Aww... is the Bertuzzi love affair over with already? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. A star that shines as bright as that love affair did burns half as long... *sigh*

Do you guys not see any games out west until now? Joe Thornton has Datsyuk-like playmaking abilities, but in a 6'4" 220 lb frame. He dipsydoodles with the puck in ways you would not expect a big man to be able to. The Wings probably aren't gonna shut him down, but they need to do a better job containing and frustrating him. Still, it's refreshing to watch Detroit play a hard fought series against a team I actually have some respect for, versus last round of watching Sutter's goon squad do their best impersonations of the Hanson brothers.

That's awful easy to say after we all saw and now know what Cheechoo planned to do with the puck. Had Dom tryied to poke check it, he could've missed and Cheechoo still would've scored. Had he waited for the shooter to make the first move, Cheechoo sttill could've scored. It's all monday-morning quarterbacking.
-
No. It's never a good idea to have guys with razor-sharp blades strapped to their feet kicking at things.

He may not be a dirty player but sorry, putting your elbow out like that is not a reflex. It's an intentional act that any NHL player should know better than to do. That was a clothesline. Horrible dirty hit. and it's pretty entertaining to read the comments from all the Preds apologists on Youtube. EDIT: actually after watching it a few times, I'd call it a flying elbow instead of a clothesline. Still a very dirty hit, very intentional, and completely inexcusable.
