no, their years don't mean less than Stevie or Nick's, but we're talking about the highest team honor here. Look at the names that have been retired by the Wings over the years. Lidstrom is the only one who really meets that standard.

best. analogy. ever. you're expected to have control of your stick at all times, which is the first 2 minutes. And I'm pretty sure if you draw blood, it's an automatic double minor.

Fedoruk thinks "tough guys" should wear extra gloves
haroldsnepsts replied to Wings_Toledo's topic in General
Okay, can you show me a direct quote where Fedoruk thinks that all fighters should have to wear gloves? He makes that suggestion, at best, and it's in the context of if they were to take fighting out of hockey, he would rather they require guys to wear gloves instead. He's not saying he thinks all fighters should be required to wear gloves. EDIT: or you can just read the quotes I pulled out a few posts back, as a Cliff's Notes version of the article. -
Cleary had a few great years in the OHL, then a crappy last year there before he was drafted midway through the first round by the Hawks. He was a disappointment for sure, but he didn't have the expectations that Daigle did. Daigle was drafted first overall and expected to be a franchise player.

Lebda hit from behind, suffers concussion
haroldsnepsts replied to Zetter is Better's topic in General
I didn't see the hit, so I can't comment on if it warrants a suspension or not. But I will say this, behavior off the ice, even if it is apologizing, doesn''t erase any behavior on the ice. If the hit warrants a suspension, he should get one, apology or not. -
so based on your watching this goaltender play a whole one game, you think you know more about who should start thatn the entire St. Louis Blues coaching staff?

Fedoruk thinks "tough guys" should wear extra gloves

Both Probert and Semenko were around 6'3" and 210-225 lbs, but I agree. Overall I think fighters have gotten bigger. okay I give up. does anyone actually read the article that's linked to? (though this thread title is misleading) -
I think sometimes with the most gifted athletes, they've had things come so easily to them for so long at the lower levels of the sport, and had so many people sucking up to them for so long, that they never really had to develop a strong work ethic. They didn't need it to succeed and no one demanded it of them. Then when their natural talent alone doesn't carry them to the top, they have no foundation to fall back on. It's no coincidence that the marginal players are often the ones with the most hussle and hardest workers game in and game out. That's probably how they got where they are. Granted, the great players are the ones who have that natural talent and still bust their ass to be the best.

That's just it. It's not readable. I realize that this is not exactly a thesis paper we're writing here. A few typos and some questionable grammar is no big deal. But when your whole post looks like one long sentence written by e.e. cummings, it's hardly worth the effort it takes to read it. And isn't that the point of posting, so people will read your thoughts and opinions? A few capitalized words and hitting the return key now and then would help a lot. ...just sayin'.

Lebda hit from behind, suffers concussion
haroldsnepsts replied to Zetter is Better's topic in General
I didn't see the hit, but am surprised so many people are saying it was clean. According to ESPN.com, Ville got a major penalty and was ejected from the game. Is that true? I just assumed a dirtbag like Nieminen threw a cheapshot. -
3/24 GDT: St. Louis Blues @ Red Wings, 2:00 PM ET

If they sent it down behind the redline, I'd still call it icing the puck. They just don't get a penalty for it. -
Fedoruk thinks "tough guys" should wear extra gloves
haroldsnepsts replied to Wings_Toledo's topic in General
seriously, read the article people. He's mostly advocating keeping fighting in hockey. The glove thing is that he would rather make that concession to the league rather than get rid of fighting altogether. The article kind of pumps up a throwaway comment. -
Fedoruk thinks "tough guys" should wear extra gloves
haroldsnepsts replied to Wings_Toledo's topic in General
Actually that's what I think Fedoruk is saying. The article kind of twists his words, but if you read the direct quotes, it sounds to me more like he's saying he would rather they make a change like having the guys where gloves than remove fighting from the game altogether. -
I don't know that it was the spotlight so much as ice time. Maybe it was the spotlight, in a way. He wanted to be the number one guy, and it's in Detroit you're always gonna be in Stevie's shadow. As fr the other stuff about girls and winning a cup, be serious. We have no idea what Fedorov was thinking. I seem to remember him being in the midst of a divorce and asking for more time to consider the deal with the Wings, which he was not granted.
-
Fedorov didn't leave for more money either. I may need to add that fact to my signature. Fans booing him is ridiculous. Fedorov won three Cups here in Detroit. Save the boos for guys like Pronger.
-
I can kind of see your point, except for the one in bold. Being extremely pissed off is not what I consider entertaining. Had this happened to the wings, I wouldn't have been entertained at all.

There's a difference. Letting in a soft goal isn't really an error in judgement. The goalie just didn't make the save. I'm not really bashing Hasek. I think he's played great for the team this year and gives us a chance to win anytime he's in net. But he can be so damn frustrating when he does something like that, because he's so good otherwise. Like you said, he needs to choose his battles. Or more specifically, pick his spots.
-
That wasn't a function of concentration, it was an error in judgement. Hasek's play has been very good overal, but that's what can be so frustrating about Dom. He plays great, but can make a couple bad decisions that are easily avoidable that end up hurting the Wings. So it's like he's really good at the hard part--making big saves, but occasionally flakes on the relatively easy part--Not wandering out of the net at the wrong time or taking a dive while the puck is in play.
-
Wow. Even for McGoo, that's awful. After two calls like that, he shouldn't be working in the postseason. And on top of those two terrible calls, it sounds like they blew the horn to stop the play when the Blues had the puck in the offensive zone, even though it was too late to rule it a goal. Terrible terrible job by McGoo and the officials in Toronto.

How many times did Peters fall down during that fight? learn to stay on your feet man!
-
Wow. Right hand to the jaw. good night. With that right hand, for a second I thought that was good old number 26 in the Rangers jersey. Hope he's okay.
-
he could probably think of over a million reasons.

Seems like all that stuff you say about not being overly negative and exaggerating a player's faults pretty much goes out the window for you when it comes to Ozzy.

A goaltending option for next year that no one has really talked about
haroldsnepsts replied to a topic in General
you're joking, right? How do you know Holland didn't try to sign him? Who could we have offered to bring in Luongo and still have a team left to put in front of him? Signing players in the NHL is a bit more complicated than in a fantasy league or on your PS2.
