No matter who wins this series, is there any possible way the Cup finals won't be a letdown after this?? -

I hope so. But they've let two golden opportunities slip by. Kane has been a force. And LA has played a lot of hockey already this playoffs. This will be their third consecutive game 7, and on the road. Hopefully Justin Williams and Richards can keep their game 7 dominance going and break the Hawks hearts in their barn. C'mon Kings, let's get that NY LA Cup final! -

My first thought is he must be rooting for the Hawks. Diving is absolutely becoming a problem in the NHL, but Quick's sell job on the Hossa contact is hardly the worst dive this series, let alone playoffs. I generally cut goalies a little more slack because for every sell job that results in a penalty, there's usually twice as many times they get drilled in the crease and there's no call. Agree with the premise, odd example. -
They didn't move on from Flip. Filppula moved on from the Wings. The Wings paid nearly as much for Weiss as they could have to retain Filppula. They likely had a good idea what it would take to retain Flip, as well as the higher cost it would take to replace him on the open market. If you believe Babcock, Holland offered Flip a 7 year contract. From everything I've heard and read, it sounds like Filppula moved on to greener pastures where he'd play more minutes. I don't fault him for that at all.

ECF : (5) New York Rangers vs. (4) Les Canadiens de Montréal

After the dirty hit on Stepan and the comments from Montreal players and coach afterwards, I'm rooting for the Rangers all the way. -
Blues re-sign Elliott, announce Miller won't be back
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Pittsburgh only has one year left on Fleury's contract. Think there's any chance there? Imagine how good they'd be if they played defense and had stable goaltending. -
Plugov? Honestly it's nice he's getting to play somewhere, and even better it won't be with the Wings. Sounds harsh but he clearly didn't have a future with the team. I'd rather they call up someone with the potential of making the lineup rather than use a player purely for spackle.

Bettman getting a raise (again) 8 - 8,3 million in 2012 - 2013
haroldsnepsts replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
Since this thread's resurrection was ostensibly about Bettman getting executive of the year, which virtually no one has posted about, I think we're done here. Anyone really pining for those old arguments about the lockout is welcome to read through (but not bump) those old threads. -

I disagree about it being clean. It was late and he made little contact to the body while contacting a player's head. And the only way you can contact the head legally is with solid body contact to the core of a player's body. He catches him with a shoulder to the chest maybe, but he also caught Stepan's head (he broke his jaw). It wasn't a hit delivered through the core of Stepan's body, it was a fly by that contacted the head. I'm fully expecting a suspension. As for Carcillo, he proved he's exactly as stupid as everyone thinks he is. -

Bettman did not create the hockey markets in California. The Kings were part of the 1967 expansion, the Sharks were 1991, and the Ducks were awarded a franchise in 1992. Bettman became commissioner in February of 93. None of those franchises were his decision. Gretzky being traded to Los Angeles had more to do with hockey in California than anything Gary did. -
Abdelkader ejected for "vicious" hit at World Championships
haroldsnepsts replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
For starters, that writer is an idiot. It wasn't late and he didn't leave his feet before contact. Part of the reason the hit was so vicious is Sobotka was still following through on his shot and couldn't protect himself. People need to stop watching gifs and slow motion replays and actually watch the video at regular speed. I don't know about international standards but by NHL rules the only issue is the strides he took before the hit. That could make it charging. To me it looks like he's hustling back to make a play then veers into the hit, but it gave him a whole lot of momentum and made this hit a nasty one. As for the rest, he does contact the head but he makes solid contact through the body. That's legal in the NHL because of the solid body contact (I don't know about international rules). He doesn't leave his feet before contact. If Sobotka gets up, it's likely nothing happens here. Even if it were in the NHL though, because Sobotka doesn't get up it's likely getting a suspension. -
And has basically been the coach of underachieving teams ever since that Cup win. I've called him the new Mike Keenan but that's actually an insult to Keenan.

I just realized I should be rooting for the Rangers. Their success demonstrates what a joke of a coach Tortorella is, and also that coaching was not really the issue in Vancouver. -
Tortorella was making $2 million a year in Vancouver until he got fired, so who knows what an actual good coach would make.

Hasek didn't get past the 2nd round for 6 years, and in his 9 seasons with the Sabres only made it past the second round twice. I'm not saying Lundqvist is necessarily the world's best goaltender, but that's a pretty strange metric you're using. -
Blues re-sign Elliott, announce Miller won't be back
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
It's a lot to give up but by letting Miller walk they hang on to a 1st round pick they would've lost if they re-signed him. -
Don't forget he also got the Ducks to the Finals in 2003. With hardly an impressive lineup they swept the Red Wings in the first round and took NJ to 7 games in the finals

What's funny is the Hawks have become masters of subtle interference if anyone has. Watch when the Kings are trying to gain the blueline, or as the Hawks are breaking out of the zone. These playoffs refs are letting a lot of interference like that go in general. Especially at the blueline. -

Other series they were calling snowing the goalie. Now not only do they not call it but they reward a dive. Crap like that drives me nuts. It's after the play. The ref is right there. It's not about not seeing what happened. It's just incompetence. Should've let them both go. -

good point. He stopped Perry on a penalty shot that would've made it 2-1 in the first period, and then again on a breakaway in the second period. Bad birthday for the rat Perry! -

Talk about clutch. Before last night's game, Justin Williams had 5 goals and 5 assists in the five game sevens he's played in during his career. And they were all wins. Last night he scored the first goal and later picked up an assist. 6 goals 6 assists in 6 game sevens. All wins. Not bad. -

As Lebrun pointed out, they did it without 2/3 of their left side on defense in Mitchell and Regehr. -
ECSF : (4) Montreal Canadiens vs. (1) Boston Bruins
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Thornton telling him to take a seat has had little effect on how Marchand plays the game. He still dives, he still taunts guys, he's still a rat. His antics are by far more hurtful to the game of hockey than anything Subban has done. From the bench, Thornton squirted water in the face of Subban during the game. Can you imagine if Subban had done that? Or if Subban had flexed his arm the way Lucic taunted him from the bench? It absolutely went both ways in that series. I don't see a ton of the Habs so maybe I've missed it but most goal celebrations I've seen from Subban are nothing different than what Patrick Kane does. And I'm not sure what the thug comment is about. Boston is the team with a player who's repeatedly speared guys in the nuts. And one who jumped a guy being held by a ref. I like a lot of players on that team but if you're going to associate "thug" with one of the two teams in that series, it's Boston all the way. And yes Boychuk dives. I like the guy overall but I've seen it firsthand more than once. It may be in the collection of Bruins diving someone posted during the Wings series.
