I'm pretty sure it was Grier he said it to.

Exactly. I hate Pronger just like I used to hate Chelios. I'd love to have Chris on the Red Wing's blueline.
-
Ahhh the infamous Goose Loonies incident. That definitely was a disappointment on every level.
-
I'm not sure I follow you. There were 7 minutes left in the game. I thought the most serious part of the instigator rule kicks in at 5 minutes.

What a perfect gift to news media everywhere on the anniversary of the Moore incident. A nice video clip they can show over and over to prove hockey is a goon sport and has learned nothing in three years. This suspension better be a biggie. On ESPN they said Simon has been suspended 5 times before. It's gotta be the rest of the season and all of the playoffs. At least. This guy is a serious repeat offender. Simon is a tough guy? why the hell didn't he drop the gloves?

c'mon, hockey's an emotional contact sport, if you can't handle it watch golf. He was just seeking payback. There've been countless worse incidents, it happens all the time. It's part of the game... Happy anniversary.

Wow. Probert on a penalty shot. Nice.

I love that clip. Stevie Y standing up on the bench, then taunting Domi with the heavyweight belt. Man, so much of Domi's success as a fighter was based on his ability to take a punch to that square head of his. It was so sad to watch someone as successful as Probie was that one year then have so many problems. I remember he lived at the apartments right by the Joe (can't remember the name Riverfront or something like it) so he could walk to practice and the games. And he was on those meds that would make you sick as a dog if you touched a drop of alcohol. When he was on his game, he was scary as hell. He'd beat you down and chip in some goals too.

Don't forget his 398 PIM. That was the greatest season ever for Probie. I'll never forget watching him in the All Star game playing on a line with Stevie. Man did he look lost out there. The All-Star game was pretty much no-touch even back then, so Probie didn't have a lot to do. And he was way over his head in terms of talent. I think he played most of that year on Yzerman's line. That's gonna help a lot. *bracing myself for the inevitable joke about it being coke-related* While his success wasn't due to coke like some speculate, I think the drop in numbers were related to all his alcohol and drug problems. If he could've stayed clean, he would've been a force to be reckoned with for most of his career, and not just due to his fists.

the point about being a hockey city is somewhat valid, but a lot of them already have teams. At least the ones that are big enough cities. Your comment about fans that understand the game is weak. Were you born with an innate knowledge of the game? New fans deserve the chance to learn the game and its nuances. And drawing your conclusion from a handful of comments on a preds board isn't exactly a fair way to evaluate a fan base. We've got a fair share of idiots here too, and this is "hockeytown." I honestly don't know if the Preds will succeed in Nashville. It seems like an odd choice for a market. But a lot of us hockey fans seem to want the game to be more popular but at the same time have a snobby attitude towards a potential new fan base. How can you hold the lenght of time they've been around against an expansion team? Of course they haven't been around long! That's gonna be the same with any new team. You're honestly going to look down on them because they're new? A team needs time to develop and identity and history. and while we're at it, "hockeytown" is nothing more than a good marketing slogan by the Illitches. Back when the Wings stunk, the arena was empty. And after the first Cup win, the fan base got huge. And on t.v. some games I see tons of empty seats and the place as quiet as a library. If the Wings missed the playoffs a couple years in a row, then we'll see how many die-hard fans there are here in Hockeytown™.

Maybe any team that's taking revenue sharing should have to wear a small logo on the shoulder of their sweaters from the profitable teams, kinda like a sponsor. How'd you like to see the Preds jersey with a small winged wheel patch on the shoulder?

maybe with some fava beans and a nice chianti?

My last and final post on the Bertuzzi incident: Bertuzzi obviously intended to hurt Moore, he probably just didn't figure he'd break his neck. Moore did not "deserve what he got" because of the Naslund hit. There is a way to handle these things in the game of hockey, and what Bertuzzi did is well outside of that. It is clearly among the worst incidents in modern hockey. McSorley, Johnson, Bertuzzi. Why do you think it was televised around the world in places that normally don't say anything about hockey? Anyone who says there've been many worse hits is full of sh*t. It was among the worst cheapshots the game has seen. He chased him down and exacted revenge by punching him from behind. That's different than throwing an elbow when you're checking a guy. Bertuzzi is completely responsible for Moore's broken neck. First, if had to pick a moment that may have snapped his neck, I would choose the point where a 6'3" 245 lb guy coldcocked him from behind to the back of the head, not a bunch of guys lying on his body. Either way, Moore's lights were out when he hit the ice, so whether it was the punch, his head hitting the ice, or the guys on top of him, none of that happens if Bert doesn't knock him unconscious. Bertuzzi's suspension should've extended 10 games into the season when the NHL resumed. He didn't deserve banning for life, but I think he deserved a little more public shame when the game resumed. "Everyone gets to play hockey, except you Todd. you gotta sit for a bit." I'm sure though that's exactly why the league didn't extend it. They wanted this incident behind them. It doesn't matter if Moore was a 4th liner or not. Bertuzzi stripped him of his ability to play hockey at any level. And no one here knows what the extent of Moore's injuries really are. Post concussion syndrome is a strange beast. Bertuzzi is now a Red Wing. I'll probably never be a fan of the guy, but I guess a part of me does hope he can resurrect his hockey career here in Detroit and earn some respect back as a player. All that being said, I'm gonna try not to talk about this crap anymore and argue with people who cling to the "stepped on his stick" or "Moore deserved it." It's now about Bertuzzi getting healthy, and hopefully becoming a power forward again. Edited for my ever failing grammar.

I don't understand. If Dats has another bad playoff run and is getting offers of 6.5 on the open market, then the Wings sure as hell better let him walk.
-
It's a strange feeling to be rooting for Colorado, but I'd love it if they bumped Minnesota out of a playoff spot. The Wild plays boring enough regular season hockey. It's only gonna get worse in the postseason. I'm glad someone went back and did the legwork on that, because I've heard a few people claim that we wanted Edmonton in the first round, and I remember the prevailing opinion as people being scared of them.

Datsyuk looking good w/out Zetterberg so far

Glad you made the record clear. I've heard that sort of revisionist history a few times now about Yzerman when someone is defending Dats, and it's far from true. -
They got him for the playoffs, not the stretch run. If he's healthy by the postseason, I'm sure they'll be happy.
-
Here's hoping the Wings play a full 60 minutes tonight and Ozzy pitches a shutout, so all I'll have to hear about him in this thread is how he didn't have to work hard to get it.

Making a redneck joke to a preds fan is about as clever as making a crack joke to someone from Detroit.
-
That's the funny thing about people calling Nashville fans rednecks. When you get outside of the Detroit metro area, Michigan gets fairly rural pretty fast. Especially when you include the U.P I'm not saying it's redneck country, but I know more than a few people from Michigan who grew up four-wheeling, fishing, and driving a tractor to school.
