I'm not arguing that so much. But you can't attribute all of Brodeur's success to their play. Surely it's helped him, but if you plug a lesser goalie into their system, he's not suddenly gonna be a contender for the Vezina.
-
How would that be taking anything away from him? The guy's a horse, and a great goaltender. His save % would probably be even better if Jersey didn't play him so much. It always amazes me when people try to diminish his acheivements because of the Devil's defensive system or his personal life. (that comment is not directed at you, Sleight). I feel like it's people still harboring hatred for the Devils from the mid 90s, who haven't even seen them play recently. Brodeur will go down as one of the all time greats.

Exactly. Oh, except for the fact that McCarty and Lemieux were facing each other when McCarty jumped the Turtle. Whereas Bertuzzi chased down Moore grabbed him from behind and punched him square in the back of the head. Which makes them pretty different.

Except if they're old enough and internet savvy enough to post messages on a fan forum, then they can surely figure out how to look up a player's name. It's not the misspellings that drive me nuts as much as the laziness. People typing things they know are wrong, they even say in their message that they know it is wrong, yet expect us to read and try and translate their message.

That's my fear. He's only played 7 games this season, is coming off a back injury, and hasn't really been great since the Moore incident. There's the distinct possibility he won't be a factor for Detroit this playoffs. Bert could be the next Uwe Krupp.
-
What's funny is he's not even a good speculator. People on this forum have a better sense for what trades are feasible or have any chance in hell at happening than Eklund does.
-
Wait, you mean Holland can't just control any trade that the Wings may want??? Forcing other teams to make lopsided deals with the Wings, forcing players to come to Detroit... But that's how it works on my Playstation!
-
I hope so. He's only played 7 games this season, so there's gonna be some rust he'll need to shake off in a hurry, especially considering he's on a new team.
-
I won't rehash this whole argument, but it was Bert that broke Moore's neck. Not the pileup. No cheapshot to the back of the head = no pileup = no broken neck. It's all his fault. No one else's. I never really thought of Bertuzzi as a dirty player before the incident. He took bad penalties and could be a hothead, but not someone i'd call dirty. Though his whole career will forever be defined most by that one terrible choice he made.

Anyone Else Concerned About # Of Hasek's Starts?
haroldsnepsts replied to Sleight's topic in General
I honestly don't know what the best thinking is on this. Is it better to keep him playing more so he's in the groove and stays in game shape? or will more rest reduce the likelihood of blowing out his groin before the playoffs? who knows. We've just gotta keep our fingers crossed. -
On paper Bert is exactly what the Wings needed. With his back injury though, it remains to be seen if this will be a comeback playoffs for him, or if Detroit just got Uwe Krupped.
-
no kidding. Why do people think it's gonna be such an issue for Cheli? He's a professional. As I've said before, he and Yzerman have exchanged punches to the face, but that didn't seem to matter to either one when they brought Chelios here.

the season after the Moore incident, didn't Colorado sign one of the Vancouver guys that was a major player in all the smack talk the preceded the incident? -
he's allowed to post whatever garbage he wants. I just can't believe how many people read it. Worse, I can't believe how many people quote it here!

that's a great point. Everyone's been complaining about how much are second line sucks. Now we've got Lang (who's lazy and sucks BUT has shown up for the playoffs every season with Detroit), a speedy guy who's supposed to be good at digging the puck out of corners, and hopefully a good powerforward in Bertuzzi. our 2nd line now has a winger who's 6'3" and 245 lbs, and a center who's 6'3" and 220 lbs. Those are two guys who'll be hard to move off the puck. -
It sounds like the pick is conditional in some way on how many games he plays.
-
That's the big question mark. Which Bertuzzi will show up? Hopefully the old powerforward with great hands.
-
would we even still have room for Lapointe? We'd have to pay the remainder of his 2.4 mill salary, and we just took on the remainder of Bertuzzi's $5.3 mill.
-
Agreed. I'm a little skeptical on how much Bert will help in the playoffs (though I'd love to be proven wrong). But Holland got him so cheap, especially when you consider how much other GM's have been paying out the ass. I have to say, Holland really surprised me by pulling this deal off.
-
I'm not a Holland slappy, but it still seems like there should be a lot more people in this thread giving mea culpas for bitching about him not doing anything.
-
Bert's history aside, my main concern is his health, and even how much he'll show up in the playoffs if healthy. He's not exactly been dominant, and it's gonna be hard on a new team and coming off injury. That being said, it sounds like Holland made a great deal to get him here.
-
A lot more people should be in this thread eating crow regarding Holland. I'm not really a fan of this move, but it is definitely a huge move at the deadline.
-
Holland is pretty much pinning our playoff hopes on Dom's groin and Bert's back.
-
uh, I think a lot of people said they would never want him to wear the winged wheel. That's different.
-
Now I hope I'm really wrong about that prediction I made last week of Bert being a total washout in the playoffs this year.
