Sting wins! Now someone has to delete the 13 (and counting) other threads about it. I'm honestly not crazy about this, but am trying to withhold judgement until all the details come out.

Trade deadline got you wound a little tight?
-
True, but I figure most of the people who will be bitching won't take that into consideration. More on topic, the thing that has me a little worried about the Calder move is it actually makes our cap situation worse in the short term. It just seems like if Holland were truly going to bring in a big gun, he'd want all the room he could get. How much space do the Wings have?
-
Which is why I may be logging off at 3:00 on the nose. Exactly. Calder was not so much a move to improve the team for the playoffs. It was more to get rid of Williams and his contract for next year.

Apparently people would rather cling to completely fabricated "news" than wait for actual information. Eklund is nothing but a huckster with a website who is trying to make himself seem important.

It's really easy to give up one or two million dollars when it's someone else's money, ain't it.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

I respectfully disagree. I think there was probably some hesitation on Kenny's part given that though Calder is small, he's not European. -

Yes, but given the following are true: Calder = Wililams Calder + 2 months = UFA Therefore Calder > Williams. -

I'm not positive Holland will make another move, but otherwise you're exactly right. This deal was a contract dump. That's it. -

actually I think shootouts were one of the things he actually did pretty well. Which would've done nothing for the Wings in the playoffs. -

I don't think this was a trade that had anything to do with the Cup run really (unless there's more in the works). It's about cutting Williams loose and getting rid of his contract for next year. And can you show me exactly where Holland promised a top 6 forward for the Cup run? -

I think you just gotta make the move when the opportunity presents itself. I don't look at this as a move by Holland to prep the Wings for the playoffs. But it is a move that should improve their team next year by dropping some dead weight and freeing up some cash. -

You're crazy. The Wings at least would've had to throw in Lilja to get someone like Crosby. -

And READ THE G*DD*MN THREAD!!! Calder is a UFA at the end of this season. His salary is 2.95 million, the remainder of which the Wings will have to pay. Wiliams had another season left on his contract at $1.6 million. So overall the Wings just got rid of a player everyone here wanted gone and saved themselves some money. -

you know, I have to second what betterRED said earlier. STFU people. Seriously. We just got rid of Williams. Remember him?? the one everyone ******* about constantly. The one everyone wants traded. WELL THEY JUST F*CKING TRADED HIM. The Wings no longer have to pay his contract next year. And the guy they got to replace him may be the same, but his contract ends this season. Who exactly did you think Williams would bring in??? -

according to nhlnumbers.com his salary is $2.95 million, and he's a UFA at the end of this season (whereas Williams wasn't a UFA for another season). -
Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Exactly. Even if he is the exact player Williams is, the Wings just rid themselves of a years worth of that contract. Calder is a UFA at the end of this season, and Williams isn't until the end of the 08 season. -

The -31 is a little scary, but the guy was on the flyers. I'm assuming his ice time will come down here, and his linemates should be more defensively responsible. And as many others have mentioned, Williams off the point and off the books is a positive. EDIT: I kept thinking he was on the blackhawks too, not the flyers. Which is even worse. -
Guerin to Detroit MIGHT be done (E4)
haroldsnepsts replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
where it belongs -
I'm guessing I'll take heat for saying this, but I don't see the point in re-signing Dats after the trade deadline but before the playoffs. It's the ideal timing for Pavel, unless he has a monster playoffs, but a less than ideal time for Holland.

Wings have made an Offer for Jason Blake
haroldsnepsts replied to russianswede919293's topic in General
Aside from what it would cost in the way of picks or prospects to bring Lapointe here, Detroit would also be on the hook for his $2.4 million salary next year. -
Very well put. It's looking like it'd cost way too much for a guy that's just a rental. It's not like Detroit is missing one tiny piece to be a Cup favorite. Next season they'd be right back to square one in terms of toughness, and short several draft picks and prospects. I'm starting to think this is the team that's going into the playoffs and I just gotta hope for the best.

Yeah, after seeing the photo stills, the arm out was from the follow through, not an elbow. Though I think it's still it's better to keep the arms down if at all possible so it doesn't end up looking like a flying elbow, even when it isn't.

it's not that he lifted his foot, it's that he jumped. Look at your second and third image. It'd be pretty easy to imagine how he could have hopped off the ice moving that way. Not a big deal. He just needs to keep it down is all.
