As I said before, it's the same with the Wings. They didn't have many fans during tough times and gained a lot of ones after the Cup wins. Of course they're going to think Crosby is the greatest ever if your reference point is a Pens forum. Kinda like the Legace for Vezina, Osgood for Hall of Fame, retire every Wings players number, Zetterberg for every award in the league threads here. It's the nature of a fan forum. If I were a Pens fan, I'd be going nuts right now. After such a terrible run they've got an exciting young team.

I know. not like here in Detroit when everyone supported the team when they sucked. Oh wait.... no they didn't. Remember the Dead Wings and an empty Joe Louis Arena? The Red Wings sure picked up an awful lot of fans after that first Cup win.
-
Simmer. I wasn't talking about Pavel. He referred to us being one point out of first place, implying Holland doesn't need to make a move because Detroit is doing well in the standings. But the Wings have won the President's Trophy and promptly washed out in the playoffs. Just because we're one point out of first doesn't mean Holland doesn't need to make a move. It was nothing to do with Datsyuk.

As the past seasons have proven, regular season success does not necessarily translate into post-season success.
-
Like the Nagy trade to Dallas last week.
-
Right. they played on the same line at times. Considering Hank had 17 power play goals, it's not hard to see how Dats could be on the ice for 23 of them. (i'm not saying it's not true, but i'm still curious where that number of 23 came from).

i hate pronger, but I'd love to have the guy on the Wings. Like he mentioned, Chelios used to be at least as hated as Pronger before he joined Detroit. Pronger is huge, nasty, and a great defenseman. Why would you not want a guy like that on your team? He's done nothing to a Wings player that puts him in the ranks of Claude Lemieux.
-
out of curiousity, where can you find stats as to who was on the ice when a player's goal was scored? and honestly, I would guess that a fair chunk of those 23 could be explained by the 17 powerplay goals Z scored last year. they weren't on the same line last season?? Maybe not regularly, but the played on the same line at times.

I think there's a large difference between saying that Zetterberg will survive without Datsyuk on his line, and saying he can carry the team on his own. you seem to be confusing the two.

When he signed that contract promising to play for a team other than the Red Wings, how exactly could you tell his heart wasn't in it?? how you could you possibly tell he wasn't happy about it? Wasn't he in Russia at the time? He won't stay if he doesn't get the money he thinks he deserves. 1. He wants to say, but it ultimately comes down to money. If he thinks he's getting paid enough, he'll stay. 2. He'll offer what he thinks is a reasonable price. Datsyuk has to accept that offer. 3. Again, it's not just Holland's decision. 4. 80% of his goals?? you're going to have to back that up with some legit research. Zetterberg and Dats definitely have chemistry on a line together, but Hank will do fine without him. 5. Not Datsyuk. If we're down 2-1 in game 7, I don't want the puck on the stick of the guy who hasn't scored a playoff goal in 20+ games now. It'd be nice to re-sign Dats for a reasonable salary. Basically though your reasons overlook the fact that the decision is mostly his.
-
It looks like he's got another year left on his contract. It's one thing to pick him up as a rental, but the Wings would be on the hook for his 2.4 mill next season. He ain't worth that anymore.
-
can we merge the "Holland's not going to do anything!" with the "Holland better not pay too much!" threads? I'm hoping the two will cancel each other out and implode.

What's Marty's contract situation? and secondly, is there a good website for finding out player's current contract info?

most polluted crime infested cities in the world?? Think maybe you're overstating that a bit? New York has more crime than Detroit. Easy. Pollution they may be neck and neck. But New York probably has more if you include smog, given the density of the population and traffic. If you count noise pollution, then it's New York by a longshot. On topic, I don't see Shanny coming back to the Wings.

You need players who make the other players around them better. Not guys who need great players around them to be good. Actually, in the case of Williams and Cleary, they need to become good role players. Williams is 26 and played his first games in the NHL 6 years ago. He's had time to develop. Time is running out. Cleary is a different story. He was on a hot streak, but I don't know that anyone truly expected that level of scoring to continue. Still he's big and a more complete player than Williams. (and less of a liability). EDITed for grammar.

Our lack of scoring depth and mediocre power play (tonight was an exception) are definitely concerns for the playoffs. and of course, the grit thing...

Wings scouts at Preds/Blues game last night

I doubt he'd mind. Yzerman and Cheli have exchanged punches and they didn't seem to mind being teammates. -
Shanny's always worn that chin strap so loose his helmet fits like a bucket. I hope he's okay.

Holmstrom re-signed for 3 years, $6M (est.)

Glad to see it. We need Homer in front of the net scoring the ugly goals. -
How were they interference? The Colorado players came at him. It's not like he was preventing them from getting to the puck. And that Chelios hit was nasty. Wow. what an elbow.

even if it didn't affect his positioning in the trade, it would still be pretty stupid for a GM to come out in the press and say they really needed a player one week before the deadline. Holland should be judged by his actions (or inaction). I could care less what he says to the media. If the trade deadline passes and he doesn't make a move, then he seems to be content for this team to do well in the regular season and fail in the playoffs, and I will be extremely frustrated. But I'll at least give him until the deadline.

sorry, when you make an outrageous statement like Jessica Simpson not only being smart, but being a member of Mensa, the burden is on you to back that up with some proof. Are you sure you didn't mean "Dense-uh?" I did spend a little time figuring it out for myself, and here's what I fouhd: I googled Jessica Simpson and Mensa. The only thing close to what you're claiming is that her mother once said in an interview that Jessica has an IQ of 160 and could be in Mensa. So there's your unbiased source. My mother said I play hockey just as good as Steve Yzerman, but for some reason the Wings refuse to give me a tryout. I think it's because they won't lend me ice skates, since I don't have my own. the bastards.

Did miss something? Did they move the trade deadline up to yesterday? Here's a thought. Next time someone feels the urge to go on a rant about how much Holland sucks and how he's not going to trade for any good player and we're going to lose in the first round of the playoffs, write it down a piece of paper. Make a list. Then when the trade deadline actually passes, if nothing happens, you can grab your handy little list and ***** to your heart's content. What the hell do you want Holland to say? "We desperately need to make a move! If we don't get a gritty winger, we're screwed!" It wouldn't exactly help his bargaining position.
