ECSF : (4) Montreal Canadiens vs. (1) Boston Bruins

Marchand is a rat and worse than any player on the Canadiens. Lucic has speared multiple players in the nuts, taunts and trolls players but and isn't man enough to handle losing without threatening guys in the handshake line. Boychuk and a few other players dive as well, which makes their coaches whining about it even funnier. I generally have liked Thornton but the guy has the IQ of a tree stump. The water squirting during game play was idiotic. So was what he did to Orpik. My point was if you're judging the character of players on a team, the Bruins are at best even with Montreal. Certainly no better. I don't get the whole arrogant thing that Subban is constantly tagged with. I wasn't much of a fan (and am still pretty indifferent) but after watching 24CH realized he's basically a big goofball who wears his heart on his sleeve. He's an emotional guy but humble teammate. When Ovechkin does it, it's passion. Patrick Kane, it's swagger. But Subban's excitement gets labeled as arrogance.

ECF : (5) New York Rangers vs. (4) Les Canadiens de Montréal

This one of those series where I'm really not pulling for either team to win or lose, so you can just sit back and enjoy hockey without the stress of rooting for your team to win.

Yes, but Marchand, Lucic and Thornton play for the Bruins. so it's a wash, at best.

WCSF : (7) Minnesota vs. (5) Chicago Blackhawks

I wanted Chicago to lose but it's hard to root for any team with this POS on it. (that was from last night by the way. He clearly learned a lot from his most recent suspension.) Here's the full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFfiQ3uY0rM

Wings have the #1 & #2 most overpaid players (per point) in the NH

I forgot all about Ericsson's extension. I wouldn't put it in the same boat as the Sammy signing, but 6 years is longer than ideal. I'd add extending Kindl for 4 years to your list. And Weiss is still TBD.

The thing is, his mistakes are starting to pile up in recent years.

WCSF : (6) Los Angeles Cartmans vs. (1) Coach Bombay and the Quacks

Weird game. Quick was fine, but as Roenick put it, Sutter was basically saying "you're gonna play like that in front of this guy? I won't subject your goaltender to that crappy of play." They apparently got the message, with the zero SOG for the Ducks in the 2nd. Gibson hasn't had to do much. Fowler and Getzlaf have made bigger saves than he has all night. Ugly hockey overall though. It's like clutch and grab era out there.

2 years, with a pay raise and a NTC. brutal, brutal, brutal. Also, Tootoo likely would've made the top ten. $1.9 million for 1 point.

    Was Legwand worth it?

As a fan, I agree. From a business perspective, it's not surprising. Even more than continuing the playoff streak, the revenue from two home playoff games (with no player contract expense) and potential for more games made it pretty much a no brainer.

Kings blueline is getting awfully thin without Mitchell or Regher but they still manage to win!

Holy crap what a game. Ducks are a scary good team. Go Kings and thank you Gaborik! Nice deadline pickup by the Kings.

Who will be LGW's whipping boy this season?

I underestimated the Quincey hate but otherwise I'm pretty happy with my picks.

WCQF - Series H - San Jose versus Los Angeles

I wonder how McLellan now feels about putting his top PP unit out for a 5 on 3 when his team was up 6-2 with 10 minutes left? There's a YT video on page 2 where Don Cherry talks about it. After getting shelled that night Quick doesn't hang his head, he skates down the bench talking to his teammates, then waits by the gate and taps them all as they head off the ice. No sulking, just motivation. Kings take the Sharks to OT next game, then never lose again.

Bahahahah! Go Kings! Man Couture is a disgrace. Easily one of the biggest divers in the league.

Remember when the Pens locked out Michigan ticket buyers?

I realize it's a grey area but let's keep the discussion about this lawsuit and its relevance to hockey, and away from the political realm. Let's also keep it away from anything related to that boring sport where really tall guys try and get a ball through a circle when they're not taking 500 timeouts.

WCQF - Series H - San Jose versus Los Angeles

Classy player Joe Thornton with the knee on Brown (who probably has a hit or two like this coming). As blatant as Cooke's, but Brown was okay and it's Thornton so nothing will happen.

WCQF - Series H - San Jose versus Los Angeles

I'd so love for the Kings to complete the upset, especially after McLelland put his top PP unit on the ice for a 5 on 3 in a 6-2 game with 10 minutes left in the third period.

    What Happened to Nyquist?

Obviously different eras but Yzerman produced at above a point per game pace for his first 5 postseasons. Fedorov was right around a ppg until his production exploded in 1995. They definitely learned what it takes to go deep in the playoffs but both Stevie and Feds were scoring from the get go.

    The Franzen Hate.

Not true. We've just gotten used to his lazy floating. Early on he was a solid more of a solid two-way forward. He's better than average at D when he wants to be. He used to be on the second PK unit with Cleary. From 2005, and a reminder how he got his nickname: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2005-11-06/sports/0511060037_1_kirk-maltby-johan-franzen-mule tireless work ethic? Goes over the top of you? I kind of remember a guy who would play like that, but haven't seen him in several years. Franzen never goes around leveling guys, but he used to go to the hard areas of the ice. Yzerman dubbed Franzen "The Mule" because of he was big, strong, and worked really hard. Not because he was an unremarkable player with a good wrist shot. Several people have mentioned how we need big strong physical forwards to contend with teams like Boston. What's sad is we already have one, he just doesn't play like it anymore.

    The Franzen Hate.

All right people, let's throttle back the name calling and sarcasm in this thread please. Argue the points being made, not the person making them.
  24. haroldsnepsts

    The Franzen Hate.

No one expects him to score every game. They just expect him to compete more games than he does. To use his size. Franzen is increasingly invisible, then he'll pot some goals, then he's invisible again. Zetterberg goes for stretches without scoring but you still know when he's on the ice. Franzen doesn't actively shoot the team in the foot (though remember that nice pass by him on the Boston goal?), but he floats. He doesn't use his size, he doesn't do much of anything. We could put Drew Miller on the 2nd line and he wouldn't actively shoot the team in the foot. That's a pretty low bar to set for any player. And it's not just the fans. How many times now have we heard Babcock say that we need more from Mule? My point with the long contract is the Wings hoped he'd be more than a 2nd line scorer. It was supposed to be Dats, Z, and Franzen as the core of this team. But Franzen has demonstrated he's not really interested in being any sort of leader for this team.
  25. haroldsnepsts

    The Franzen Hate.

The Wings didn't hand him an 11 year contract because they wanted to lock up a 2nd liner for the next decade. Especially one who doesn't score in the playoffs. They may know exactly what he is now, but it's not what they hoped he'd be in 2009. It is why Franzen is likely staying here though. He'll put up his points assuming he stays healthy. He just isn't THE guy and never will be. So the Wings can keep him for some second line scoring during the regular season but need to find a goal scorer who plays like he gives a s*** and will put up points in the playoffs. I'm guessing it'll be at least a couple more seasons until he becomes so intolerable that Holland will buy him out or make a trade.
