What is a game winning goal supposed to tell us?

Yes, let's do back up a bit here. I think the question you've all been trying to get at for most of this thread now is, how many chucks would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? In conclusion I would just like to state for the record that I like pizza.

    Hasek - The 3rd Defenseman?

I feel like he's always done that too. It's a case of where he may come out diving on the breakaway and totally get burned for an easy goal. But there's the times it works, and even the times it doesn't, the guy on the breakaway has to be ready for the possibility he could come challenge. I guess for Dom it's sort of that he may lose a few battles that way but usually wins the war.

    Hasek - The 3rd Defenseman?

As you said, Hasek has always been a wanderer. I think partly he just wants to touch the puck more, and also it keeps the opposition guessing. He's nothing if not unpredictable.

Is there a better way to sort teams in the NHL standings?

Just so you guys know, in case you've missed Rimouski's threads from a while back. It's not about actually answering his question or arriving at a point, he just loves to hear himself talk.

Gary Bettman doesn't intend to step down

    Fixed it.

Is there a better way to sort teams in the NHL standings?

I'd like to give props to norrisnick for being the first one to call that WingsFan2007 is actually our old stat-obsessed friend Rimouski Oceanic. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...st&p=953065 stopping by once a year to make your pointless thread about standings Rimouski?

TSN: Red Wings interested in Bertuzzi

Can we forget Bertuzzi's baggage for a second? Either you're gonna hold it against the guy or you're not. But what would it realistically take to get him here? So far I've heard Williams and a 1st, but that seems like a pipedream to me. Other teams can see William's limited development as clearly as we can. And yes Bert's stock has dropped because of his injury, but I bet there's still a lot of teams willing to gamble on his health. I just can't see him coming that cheap. So my questions are this: what would it seriously take? And how much of his salary would we be on the hook for?

TSN: Red Wings interested in Bertuzzi

Moore incident and related baggage aside, I just think Bert would cost too much, he hasn't really been the player he was, and even the player he was didn't do much in the playoffs (compared to his regular season performance) except take penalties that killed his team.

What is a game winning goal supposed to tell us?

is it really him? could it be? I would've expected this thread to be eight pages of inane statistical rambling by now! EDITED for typo.

What is a game winning goal supposed to tell us?

statistically I don't think it means much. If a guy has a lot of GWG's, people may try and say he's clutch, but that's reading way too much into it. Context of the goal is everything. Honestly I don't think it's a very useful stat.

Question for fight fans(personal injuries & such)

I met Kocur at a Wings practice in the late 80s, and his right hand already had a massive amount of scar tissue over the knuckles. I can only imagine what it looks like now.

LGW Giveaway: 2 Tickets to Wednesday's Game!

Maybe there should be a LetGoWings.com sign that each winner has to take to the game with them.

    Buccigross Wisdom

A few years back he predicted the Ducks upsetting the Wings in the first round. It took a lot of balls to make that call at the time, and even more irritatingly, he was right. He (or possibly his staff, but it seems like him) is very cool about sending emails. He didn't put it in the column, but I've had him reply personally about an email I sent him regarding the goaltender trapezoid rule change. He's goofy at times, but extremely knowledgeable and loves the game. He's about the only good hockey related item on ESPN.com.

    uhh, wtf? yeah, great post.
  17. Interesting points about the timing of the jersey retirements, but there's still no way Ozzy's should hang from the rafters. He's not even a strong candidate for a hall of famer, let alone jersey retirement. If the Wings hang his number, they have clearly changed the standard, and then we might as well hang Draper's, and Shanny's, and Cheli's, and Fedorov's, and Larionov's and Fetisov's...

    Buccigross Wisdom

Bucci's got great insights on the game. About the only thing I strongly disagree with is increasing the net size. And I thought this was an interesting note regarding television ratings: "• Of all Fox Sports Net regional channels, the Red Wings lead all NHL teams (average 96,915)."

    Eklunds at it again.

Why do people give him any credibility at all?

The "REAL" reason some Detroit fans dislike Fedorov

A lot of people bring that up, but if I remember correctly he was referring to how hard it was to leave his friends and family and his homeland to come to Detroit. Meaning leaving the Red Wings was like doing it all over again, leaving his friends and family. He wasn't comparing the Detroit Red Wings to the USSR. I can't find a link for the quote, but maybe someone can back me up.
  21. Thanks! I couldnt remember the exact year off the top of my head, but figured 75 years was a safe estimate.
  22. take a gander at the players whose numbers have been retired. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Red_W...Retired_numbers the bar is set extremely high.

Sean Avery on the Trade Market

    thankfully, so did Detroit. *whew*
  24. Just for some relative perspective here, the Wings have been around for what, 75 years? And they have how many jerseys retired from those years? I think it's six now with Yzerman. And Vladdie's and Aurie's as unofficial retirings. Think about that. 6 jerseys over 75 years. There have been a lot of great players in the organization over those years who have made major contributions to the team. But you only retire the best of the best. Players you absolutely identify with greatness, and with the Red Wings. (unless you're Colorado, then playing one season on your team qualifies) Draper's number will not be retired. Chelios's number will not be retired. Shanny's number won't be retired. Fedorov's won't either, unless he came back to Detroit and was a major part of another Cup. Lids is the only one you can seriously talk about right now. EDIT: And before I get crucified for that statement about Fedorov, that's my way of saying it ain't gonna happen. Because the chance of him coming back to Detroit and playing out of his mind to win a Cup is extremely extremely small.

    Sean Avery traded to Rangers

the stupid stuff he says is a minor part of the reason I wouldn't want Avery back. He's managed to keep his foot out of his mouth so far this season, but when he doesn't, it's a distraction for the team. Mainly I just think he's a stupid player. Great energy, decent skills, terrible decisions. People keep saying he's changed, but I'm not seeing it. or the weak reasoning of "he'd be better around all the Wings veterans." Umm, that didn't really work last time he was here. He's old enough and been in the league long enough that if he ever were going to straighten himself out, it would've happened already. And it hasn't. I just think he's always gonna be a player with a lot of great qualities but too many downsides that will hurt your team.
