If we're talking about this season, it's absolutely Legace. If it's overall, then it's Ozzy by a longshot. Manny (who is the same age as Osgood) is just now accomplishing what Osgood did ten years ago.

How can you say he definitely didn't make it into the endzone? You had a better angle than the ref standing 10 feet away on the goal line? All the ball has to do is break the plane of the goal line, which means the front portion of the white line, even if it's just the tip of the ball. It was close for sure, but there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the call on the field. It was the right call. The push-off in the endzone was a little weak, in my opinion. Later in the game, I wonder if that would've been flagged. But overall the questionable penalties did not decide this game.

what'd ya think of it? I think it's one of Altman's better movies. I always liked Radar more in the movie and in the early t.v. episodes when he was much sneakier. He got a lot more naive as the show went on. *ahem* sorry for the threadjack. Where were we? Oh yah. Wings suck! bad goalie! defense play bad and whatnot...

I don't think we jump off the bandwagon, we're just emotionally scarred from early playoff exits and get frightened anytime we see potential warning signs. I think it's post-traumatic stress disorder. Fans of other teams should be totally welcome here as long as they play nice and aren't trolls. It's good to get outside perspectives.

Now that I'm done laughing at how quickly you came up with those stats, that data makes me very very sad.

We need NNick to run the numbers for us. I'd be curious to see how many games they have lost that way. And how many wins the Wings have that were one or two goal games. It's not a goalie problem. It's a team problem. Our goalies just aren't great enough to cover up that weakness.

Is it just me, or does it seem like most of our losses are games where the Wings failed to score three goals or more?

Honestly, I would love to be able to talk about it. but it's virtually impossible these days without inflaming either the Manny or the Osgood supporters. (I'm sure you've noticed all the arguing already taking place). When the discussion breaks down that badly, I'd just prefer that the people involved take it to the other thread.

I certainly wouldn't pin the loss tonight on Legace, but if you think he hasn't let in a bad goal all season, you haven't been watching. Like someone previously said, we have two 1B goalies. Mainly I'm concerned about these losses because it seems the Wings are incapable of winning tight games.

I'm not gonna get in a goalie argument with you, but you really need to look up the definition of the word "fact."

I voted for Stevie. It might be because I never really saw him play for the Wings, but I think of Gordie as bigger than the Red Wings. He was the greatest in hockey. to me, Gordie is "Mr. Hockey." Whereas I started following the Red Wings the year Stevie started playing, so for me he is inherently tied to the Red Wings. He brought three Stanley Cups to a city that had watched years of terrible hockey, followed by years of painful playoff exits. He will retire as a Red Wing, as the longest-serving captain in the game, and as one of the greatest captains in the NHL. Steve Yzerman is synonymous with the Red Wings, that's why I voted him as the greatest.

Yah I was really surprised by that comment. I would've expected something more like "We got a three goal lead and then stopped playing." or "after we got the lead, the whole team played like a steaming pile of crap, starting with myself."

No, definitely not. If Legace keeps playing well, they should keep starting him and rest him when he needs it. It just is something I've worried about since we got Osgood and they were talking about the tandem idea. Ozzy has never been great off the bench, so if the Wings management brought him in thinking the worst case scenario he would be a solid backup for Manny, I think they used poor judgement. And I agree. I don't care how bad Ozzy or Legace feel about letting in any goals. I just care about how they play on the ice. As for the playoffs, even with either of these guys playing well, we're going to need to seriously improve our defense. I don't think Ozzy or Manny is capable of stealing games for the Wings when they're getting shelled.

You're still missing my point. If Manny keeps playing like he has, and Osgood keeps playing as inconsistently as he has, I completely agree. Manny should start. But their history is relevant. Osgood has shown he's not great in the backup role. that worries me. And Manny does wear down. I wouldn't want him playing awesome but be worn out heading into the playoffs. My guess is that they in the regular season they will continue to share duties, with Manny carrying slightly more of the load if their play stays at it is now.

I know you're trying to be funny, but part of the problem is that Ozzy isn't a good backup. If Legace plays well and for the first time in his career carries the load as a starter, I have even less confidence in Osgood coming off the bench after sitting for a long stretch. EDIT: I'm definitely not saying we should continue to start Ozzy even if he's playing poorly, just that the idea of him in a true backup role makes me worry even more about his performance. And also worry about Manny's ability to carry a heavier load.

It sounds like Dallas exposed all the Wings weaknesses tonight. 1) Not playing a full sixty minutes of hockey. 2) Major defensive problems: What was Lebda trying to do on the first Dallas goal? Lehtinen's goal on a one timer wide open from the faceoff dot. A Dallas player practically sitting on Ozzy's lap untouched on Boucher's goal. 3) Goaltending. Ozzy should've had a couple of those. And you'd like him to come up with the huge save on at least one other one. 4) bad turnovers. Datsyuk giving the puck away at the blueline, then not being able to backcheck fast enough to make up for his mistake. Total collapse. I think the Wings will continue to do well in the regular season due to their potent offense and relatively weak division, but nights like this make me fear for the playoffs.

Yah, either way you cut it, whether he was stinking up the joint or getting abandoned by the team, he should've been pulled earlier. Plus the goaltender switch could've also been like a timeout. Try to kill some Dallas momentum.

Nope. Wow. It seems like at the very least when Dallas scored twice less than a minute apart early in the third period, Babcock could've used the timeout. If not sooner.
