Legace is an average goaltender. Will make some big saves, will make some bad decisions, and lacks experience in the playoffs (spare me any conspiracy theories on why he hasn't been given his shot). Osgood is a good goaltender. Can steal games, make big saves, can also let in the infuriatingly soft goals at times. But when he's on, which hopefully he will be come playoff time, Detroit can win the Cup with him in net. People seem to forget he's done it once already.

You guys seriously think that if she just started showing up places with her girlfriend, her sexuality would be a non-issue? like it wouldn't make headlines? let's not be naive. Especially when we're talking about athletes. They share lockerrooms, hotel rooms on the road. Not to mention that there have been few openly *** athletes in sports. It's not like they're just shouting it out there and no one cares. For whatever reason, the general public is fixated on the sexuality of famous people. Celebrities and athletes usually announce they are *** as a pre-emptive strike.

Iafrate had the cannon in the All-star skill competition, but as for the most devastating shot during games on a regular basis, I'd have to go with MacInnis. (And I never saw Bobby Hull play so I can't comment, but I know he had a hard shot)

If Dats has a good year, I doubt we could afford him for a long-term contract. This is a guy who already considers himself equal to Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley. Imagine what he'll think if he actually has a great season? It wouldn't surprise me if he wanted the league max, or want to get out of Detroit in 2 years to go somewhere they can shell out big bucks for him.
-
So you'de rather sign an overpaid senior citizen then pay Datsyuk the same thing? Even if Dats is here for 2 years, trade him towards the end of his contract, and he'll get more return then Federov ever hoped to. And no Federov wouldn't take a pay cut to come play for the wings. Future is where were headed, not the past. at 35, Sergei is a Senior citizen? The 5 years we'd get from Fedorov would exceed anything we get from Datsyuk, assuming he even stayed with the Wings that long. Not to mention Dats is 28 himself, but you're thinking he'll be in Detroit until he's 40 or 41? Datsyuk is not our future. He could be a good piece of the team for sure, but he's not franchise. And he's not young.

Fedorov hands down. Datsyuk won't come close to being the player that Fedorov is.

there ya go. Not saying Hudler is gonna be nearly as good, but you understand the point? They were calling Gretzky "The Great One" when he was 13. He had massive expectations on him when he entered the NHL. And as you pointed out, Hudler is no Gretzky.

I'd vote for Devellano and the scouting staff. And certainly Illitch's deep pockets help. Not so much Holland.

Can we please post any half-baked Eklund rumor in the Trade Rumors forum? First it's Cujo, now it's Dats...

True, it is an assumption. But consider this: Goalie A: 32 years old NHL backup for 5 seasons. Never played more than 41 NHL games in one season. 4 career playoff starts Career GAA 2.22 SV% .918 (over 146 total games, all for Detroit). Career playoff GAA 2.18 SV% .905 Goalie B: 32 years old 2 time all star Won the Stanley Cup as the starter. 10+ years as a starting goaltender started 64 games last season 82 career playoff games Career GAA 2.44 SV% .907 over 568 NHL starts (Detroit, NY Isles, St. Louis) Career playoff GAA 2.22 SV% .916 I think it's a fairly safe assumption at the start of the season to say Goalie A will be back-up, and goalie B starter. As the season goes on, who knows. Though I think any goaltender tandem is a terrible idea. 50 games or so for Ozze, 30 for Manny. Then Ozzy in the playoffs all the way. And for the record, both goalies are not equal in skill or ability or Manny would've been a starter years ago.

It just affirms my belief that Eklund has less hockey sense than most of the people here on this board.

already a poll. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...showtopic=28910

He's probably staying, but I wish he were gone. Nothing against Manny. It's the million-dollar salary for a backup that I don't like.
-
Agreed. That was during a shootout? Then yapping at the goalie on top of it. What an ass. Do guys realize what idiot they look like with the elaborate dance routines after a goal? This is not the NFL. I wish the goalie would've caught him straight on the mouth with his blocker, so next time he flashed his sh*t-eating grin, it'd be short a few teeth.

At this point, it sounds like the rumor is several steps away from even being as credible as an Eklund rumor. And that ain't saying much...

favorite wing never to win the cup in Detroit

Of that list, definitely Oates. If not him, then I'd have to go with Shawn Burr. He was with the Wings for over a decade, a good scorer, great two-way player, and had a lot of heart. Plus he got the game winner against Toronto that year in the playoffs when the puck deflected off his chest and went into the net. At the time, that goal was like Stevie's slapshot against the Blues. -

I know cycling is not really popular here in the states (though it has definitely become much more popular over the last 7 years), but I still have to comment on Armstrong's achievements. Tomorrow Lance Armstrong will officially win his seventh consecutive Tour de France. He has dominated this race since his comeback from cancer in 1999. To try to put this accomplishment in perspective. In the 100+ years that the Tour de France has been in existence: 5 riders have won the Tour 5 times (including Lance) 2 riders have won 5 consecutive Tours (including Lance) but Lance Armstrong is the only rider in the history of the Tour to have won 7 times, let alone 7 consecutive times. It is a record that will stand for a very very long time. For him to win the French race in this manner would be as if a French baseball team could compete in our World Series, and won it seven years in a row. It's been killing a lot of French cycling fans to see their race dominated by an American this way, and even worse, a Texan!
