It's one thing for Subban to be in the press box when your defensive pairings are Keith-Weber, Vlasic-Doughty, Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo. When your options are Kronwall, Ericsson, Dekeyser, Quincey, Smith, Kindl, and Lashoff, it's a different story.

Vancouver's goaltending tandem now has less than 70 total games of NHL experience.

He definitely could show a better work ethic but it's hard not to like Dustin Penner: Dustin Penner @Dustinpenner25 7m “@strombone1: ” Hey bud. Quick question. Do we get the air miles or does the team for the flights? Dustin Penner @Dustinpenner25 1h .@BarackObama hey i know this is last minute & I hate asking on such short notice but can I crash for a few days? I'm great with kids

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 2m VAN is taking back money on Luongo's contract. It varies in amounts each year. Around $1M (ballpark) for each of first four years. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 1m VAN also traded Steve Anthony to FLA as part of Luongo trade. As per @DarrenDreger, VAN retains 15 per cent of Luongo's contract.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 2m ...We believe Markstrom is included. We believe the Canucks are eating salary and other players involved.

James Duthie @tsnjamesduthie 22m Roberto Luongo confirms he has been traded to Florida. Signing papers right now. #Tradecentre If you can complete a basic job application you may very well be overqualified.
-
Agreed. I was never much of a Luongo fan but I feel bad for the guy after how he's been jerked around in Vancouver. He's certainly partly to blame with that contract but the whole situation with Nucks has basically ruined his career.
-
Good for him to get out of Vancouver.

It's great to keep the thread up to date on the latest and greatest. Just make sure it's from someone that's reputable (like you did with McKenzie). It looks like Willes writes for The Province, or at least has a blog on their wesbite, but that's not even a verified twitter account.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 5m Canucks trade Patrick Mullen to Ottawa for Jeff Costello. No worries. I knew what you meant. Just wanted to try and clarify for people.
-
It doesn't really need to be merged. Bigger trades can have their own threads. It makes it easier to discuss them that way. There may be overlap but then this trade deadline thread is a good place to keep up with the latest info and also function as a catchall for smaller deals.

I guess I don't see how that's much different than what Subban is known for and why it's an NBA attitude when it comes to him. Ovechkin is arrogant, just as mouthy, and not exactly a team player. In general I take things with a grain of salt when it involves the Habs. Everything is under the microscope there and that place is its own weird hockey universe. I had heard a lot of the same things but the 24CH gave me a new perspective on the kid. He just seemed like a young emotional guy more than anything. When he made a stupid mistake that cost his team the game, he looked crushed and apologized to his teammates in the lockerroom right after the game. At 24 years old with that skill set, I'd take him on the Wings in a heartbeat.

Minnesota Wild @mnwild 5m BREAKING: #mnwild acquires Ilya Bryzgalov from @edmontonoilers for 4th-rd pick. More: http://ow.ly/uewe2 pic.twitter.com/pRtkuCc4VX Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 3m Viktor Fasth to Edmonton also a done deal.

According to Lebrun, they're still making moves. Though on days like this I don't fully believe it until it's official official. Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 12m Anaheim Ducks are indeed acquiring Stephane Robidas from the Dallas Stars. ... not official yet though
-
On National Pancake day no less! Ducks must be making a move and clearing space because Penner's had a good year for them. People seem to think Anaheim is making a hard push for Vanek.

NBA attitude? Does Ovechkin have an NBA attitude? What about Tatar? He's got swagger but from what I've seen of him on 24CH he actually seems like a fairly humble guy. He's just mouthy in the way guys like Hull and Roenick were. And every coach has had problems with him? He and Therrien have had issues, but many have also questioned Therrien's handling of the young player. He's shown some terrible decision making on the ice at times, but he's an extremely talented D-man who is young and still developing his game under the microscope in Montreal. I've never been a huge Subban fan but if a player like that can be had for a good deal with the Wings, absolutely I'd want him on the blueline. He's a game changer. The Wings don't have many of those anymore. I can't imagine Montreal would ever let him go though.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Quincey goes through brutal stretches, but I still wouldn't put him in the same ranks as Lebda. Andersson as our first line center though. Wow injuries have decimated this team. -
Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

If anything I think Kesler is getting underrated in this thread. He dives and is kind of an idiot at times, but the guy has put up two 70+ points seasons, scored over 40 goals before, and is a responsible forward who's tough to play against. I don't expect that he'd put up 70 points on the Wings or pot 40 goals again, but he could be good for 20+ goals and 50+ points. How many players on Detroit currently could do that while playing Selke worthy defense? My biggest concerns with Kesler would be the d-bag factor and his health. I'd hope that in Detroit he'd knock off most of the diving. Though I hear that's already reduced under Tortorella. All in all though it's theoretical. I think it's extremely unlikely he's coming to the Wings. -

Even without his recent TKO, I'd be shocked if the Wings were really interested in Westgarth at this stage of the game. He's a big guy and a decent fighter but he's barely a hockey player. When he was in LA I only noticed him when he dropped the gloves. I don't even particularly remembering him dishing out big hits. If it were early in the season I could maybe see it. But like you said points are too valuable right now. -

I wouldn't call him expendable in any way. Tradable as part of a package for the right player coming back? Absolutely. -

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 1h Red Wings among teams with interest in Christian Ehrhoff, however, Det likes its youth and may do nothing if prices don't drop. Any guesses as to which it will be? -
Marty St. Louis wants out because The Captain hurt his feelings
haroldsnepsts replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
I never argued that there wasn't tension between Bowman and Yzerman. I remember it well, and it's well established that several players on the team weren't happy with Bowman's defense first system. Especially after they got their ass handed to them by the Devils in the Cup finals. . Some even think the potential Ottawa trade was more of Bowman pulling a Herb Brooks move (when he threatened to cut team captain Eruzione on the 1980 Olympic squad) than something the Wings actually would follow through with. But there's a big difference between a player not getting along with a coach and saying that player demanded a trade. -
Marty St. Louis wants out because The Captain hurt his feelings
haroldsnepsts replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
That's not what happened. The Red Wings were working on a trade with Ottawa and kept Yzerman in the dark about it. And Yashin was supposedly the name involved in the deal, not Alfredsson. Yzerman was obviously upset but his only requests were that the trade not drag on, and if he was traded he hoped he would go to a contender. It wasn't about forgiving Yzerman. The fans were mostly outraged when they found out. it was forgiving Bowman and Wings management. I think it was Ilitch who ended up killing the deal. The only similarity is both St. Louis and Yzerman both played their asses of for their team while the drama was going on. As for Marty St. Louis, he has been a class act all of his career, so him asking for a trade because his feelings got hurt doesn't ring true. Or at least sounds oversimplified. It could very well have been that as a 38 year old, once he found out he wasn't getting a chance at a gold medal he wanted to be traded to have another shot at the Stanley Cup. Who knows. -
No he didn't. He stuck his stick between Neil's legs. He didn't poke him in the groin. I'm not a fan of Franzen's cheapshots when he won't back them up, but this wasn't one. It was pretty minor.

Ryan Miller, Steve Ott traded to St. Louis Blues
haroldsnepsts replied to Namingway's topic in General
Honestly I think this move is about getting past the Kings, Quick in particular. They may not even see them in the playoffs this year but the Blues have had two very good teams the last two seasons but couldn't get past the Kings both times. In both series a big part of that reason was Jonathan Quick. He's in their heads. Headed into the playoffs with Miller should give them the feeling they won't end up losing games where they've outplayed the other team, which is what happened at times against LA.
