You'd think the Wings would know by now not to play Legace in clutch situations.

If he simply could've gotten them to stop taking so many idiotic penalties they likely would've picked up another win or two. From ESPN:

I wanted them to keep the Joe and didn't like new arenas. Then I went to a game at the Staples Center, where in between periods you can actually go to the bathroom, get a beer and get back to your seat before the next period starts. Sight lines probably aren't quite as good as the Joe but they also don't have the death stairs. To try and retrofit the Joe and bring it up to modern standards probably costs more than building a new one. Plus based on how they've talked about it, this is about much more than a new arena for the Wings. It would help create and expand an entertainment district downtown.

It's Wyshynski quoting St. James, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. I don't think Howard played as badly as some around here, but if he is selected it sure wasn't based on this season's play. Honestly I'd just as soon he's home getting a break and they send someone who played well this season like Bishop to be the third goaltender.

It was cool getting to see DK and Smith a bit. Kadri sure doesn't seem like the sharpest knife in the drawer. And if you thought the Babcock glare was scary, his snarl in the locker room is worse. You can see why guys want Cleary on the team. There's no questioning his compete level and how personally he takes it every time the Wings get scored on. It's got to be frustrating that he just can't manage to compete the way he wants anymore. As for the shortcomings of the show, I think a big part of that is how quickly they need to turn it around and air it. This episode the last footage was shot at least Christmas Eve and aired four days later. It would be different if they could follow the guys around for months and then construct the series over the course of several more months.

Is this official yet? Because I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere. When you guys make threads about signings it needs to have a link to a reputable source confirming it. When it's official someone can make a new thread with the link.

They do, they just don't know how to install it. It took them forever to get the broken pane out, then they broke the next piece while carrying it out to the rink. They had to use the backup piece and made the inexplicable decision not to take the paper off it because they had already taken so long. The Panthers ice crew is a disaster. And that's not just a shot at a southern team, because there's plenty of southern teams who manage to replace glass successfully.

I've plugged this blog a bunch because it gives a great and often hilarious explanation of the finer points of the game, in particular defensive breakdowns that result in the puck ending up in your own net. I seriously did a doubletake when I first saw that pic. It looks like it's photoshopped, or that the Sabres broke out in spontaneous short track speed skating race. With the craziness of their three-in-a-row defense, you might not notice the two San Jose players who are wide open right in front of Miller, waiting for the puck. What's even more hilarious is shortly after that still was taken, a 4th Sabre (seen barely at the left edge of the frame) comes in to join the other three. It's hard to believe this wasn't the #1 meltdown until you see the winner. When people think Ryan Miller is overrated as a goaltender, they need to remember this is the kind of defense he has in front of him.

It's impressive what an even keel the guy has and how much time he spends explaining things to players. Things I should probably aspire to as a mod.

A grey area maybe, but not a bad call. The circumstance you're talking about is when the puck is already in the crease and the ref loses sight of it as the goalie is trying to cover it. It's a much quicker whistle because refs don't want guys hammering away at the goalie to knock the puck loose when it might be frozen. In this case, Smith is outside the crease when the puck goes up in the air and in his pants, then Smith immediately slides back into the net. He in no way is trying to cover the puck. And watching it real time, the ref skates over and blows the whistle after only a couple seconds transpired. That happens all the time in hockey when a puck gets stuck in a player's equipment. The refs wait a couple seconds to see if it'll fall out. On the overhead you can even see that the puck is visible the whole time. It didn't disappear into his pants. The ref never signaled a goal on the ice so I'm guessing this was reviewed in Toronto?

They tried (when they waived him). No one would take him. Though I agree I honestly don't know why they signed him. Part of the reason no one wanted him is because Holland overpaid him. And it's like he never talked to Babcock about Tootoo.

I agree that the joe is about as inconvenient of an arena as you could design these days but the level of empty seats has gone well beyond beer and bathroom lines and people leaving early.

Has this been confirmed anywhere? Because Khan's article says Babcock will decide tomorrow. If it's just your hope or opinion that's fine, but you need to make it clear in your post that's the case. If it's an actual fact then it needs to be confirmed with a link from a reputable source.
