Cowen to have hearing for hit on Girgensons

It's hard to tell exactly what happened from that angle. If it was another chickenwing elbow then he absolutely should be suspended. Hopefully twice as long as normal because it'd be the second time in very few games that he's thrown and elbow to catch a guy he missed with a check. Either way it looks like head contact with almost no body contact. Not brutal as far as headshots go, but suspension worthy.

12/10 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Panthers 3 (SO)

Rightly so. It was a great move out of the corner to the net. Datsyuk was caught totally flatfooted. How often do you see Wings players go to the net like that?

You have to remember it's the shootout though. I'd be curious to see the stats for most goalies in the league.

Tonight the Wings are a lot like the Panthers ice crew. They get the job two-thirds done, but can't quite pull off that key final step.

If the Wings make the playoffs this season their slogan should be "Thank You Loser Point!"

Wow. great shot by Kronner. Nice shift there by the Wings.

I think I could change out the glass faster. Without a ladder. And I've never done it before.

It's a turnover fest by both teams here at the end.

It all started with a no look backhand dump from Mule. If you're gonna do that you've gotta get it over the heads of the D men at the blueline.

Dats with a bad giveaway right in front of the net. Wow.

Must be nice for all those Panthers fans who had great seats behind the Wings net.

    Wow, he just schooled Datsyuk.

I don't even know that he's so much bad like he's constantly screwing up or anything, he's just a true bottom line plug in every way.

In a game where the Wings are leading in the 3rd period, your only post before this one in this thread has been to bash Cleary. I suggest you stick to talking about the game and not lecturing others on their optimism or lack thereof.

That's what I thought at first, but why the hell wouldn't they pull it off?

    2014-2015 NHL salary cap projection

Admittedly I haven't seen much of him this year, but from everything I've heard he's so slow he's practically moving backwards. Maybe he could be a reclamation project if he found the desire to be good again, but it's a serious gamble.
  21. I'm running out of new ways to say this, but: Play nice in the thread. All facewashes, slewfoots and buttends will result in suspension. It would be nice if people used their hockey knowledge as something to share with people instead of a tool to bludgeon them with. And I can't think of a hockey analogy for this right now but Stay on Topic. Game on.

    2014-2015 NHL salary cap projection

Apparently so Bettman can burden the league with more unprofitable franchises: Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 19m Bettman says lots of expressions of interest in expansion. NHL is willing to listen. However, decision to expand hasn't been made Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 18m Bettman says franchises have never been stronger. Says everything in due course if due course is going to happen. Very much undecided. It's funny how when headed into a lockout most of the franchises are near the brink of disaster. Once they've negotiated the cap down, the franchises are stronger than ever. Nevermind that Phoenix thing...

Yzerman commits to Alumni Game roster!

I'm guessing he had his reasons, whether it was something with scheduling or maybe he just wanted to see if he could even skate well enough not to embarrass himself out there. I don't really know what his caginess was about, but based on how he behaved his whole career here in Detroit I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he had a good reason.

    2014-2015 NHL salary cap projection

This CBA term is 10 years with an opt out by either side after 8 years, so there can't be one before then. Assuming Bettman is still commissioner the next NHL lockout will be in 8 years.

Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

Yeah, the original angles I saw it was hard to tell if the puck was just skipping. But here it does look like it probably clipped it. It's a predatory hit by Orpik so I'm not surprised the Bruins are upset, in the same way people react to Kronner's hits. But Thorton's actions are way over the line. If a guy doesn't want to engage you have to let it go and get retribution other ways. Orpik could've been a marked man all game and you take shots at their stars. There's no excuse for what Thornton did. This is a difficult point to make because it sounds like I'm excusing Thornton's actions and I'm not, but I was surprised at the outcome and stretcher and whatnot because the actions themselves didn't seem that brutal. He must've really caught Orpik on the button or something. But that's exactly why you can't pull crap like that on an unsuspecting player. You end up with Bertuzzi-Moore, or McSorley. The league could've helped itself by coming down on the Emery mugging and established a precedent for beating an unwilling opponent. Though at the same time you don't want to create an environment where the rats can operate more freely.
