Agreed, but look how quickly that "might" became a definite thing to people in this thread. As for the overreacting, I just had a hunch that would be what would happen. As that's how all things Cleary tend to be here. There was an explanation at the end of the locked thread. The topic was about Franzen, Cleary and Nyquist. Essentially it was a dupe of this discussion. I'm not sure but maybe it would be better to have pre-game update threads or something to that effect, that would be a split off version of this thread. Because the lines thread makes sense as a topic but you're right it will become unwieldy. I'm open to suggestions. And when Cleary is confirmed scratched someone can create a thread in which everyone can rejoice.

Wait, I think I've figured it out. He was feeling nauseous and missed a period. He's pregnant! (And Khan needs to learn to spell nauseous).
-
Now Khan is saying "might" be scratched. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/11/red_wings_johan_franzen_will_r_2.html Commence overreacting.
-
per Khan: I still don't understand why he's being so mysterious about it. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/11/red_wings_johan_franzen_will_r_2.html

I wonder if he's got some "injury." There seems to be a lot of those going around on the Wings lately.
-
So you don't care about the game but are simultaneously annoyed that Yzerman isn't giving an answer? Unless he's secretly been skating, the answer is 99% no. I don't know if he even can skate again, but it's pretty clear he hasn't been. Maybe he's not coming out with a straight "No" because it could dissuade people from buying tickets to it. Given how screwed up his knee probably is, it could also be really depressing to see him try to skate out there.

But this is the grass is greener syndrome. People want the young guys to play, but then they apparently don't even get a full season to see if they're any good before they should get the hook? Lashoff doesn't need to stand out. He's not really an offensive defenseman. But he's big, uses his size and has a decent first pass, and will probably get better. Like I said he's played 48 games in the NHL, so he's not nearly done developing. And he absolutely should be in the lineup because he doesn't make a lot of mistakes. That's a big part of his job. Consider how the Wings lost the game in OT last night. But you want to yank him because Almqvist, Oullet or Sproul might do something better? Sure Almqvist scored a goal when he jumped into the play that one time, but he also looked like the rookie that he is out there too. Lashoff can help provide mix of more stay at home guys to free up the d-men with more offensive talent. It's way too early to give up on him.
-
Agreed. He was utilized more where he belongs so maybe people will settle down. I don't think he's been as awful as everyone here makes him out to be, but he certainly shouldn't be on the 2nd line. 3rd and 4th line with some PK time is fine. Against a team like Tampa you really see his lack of speed. On his penalty last night Cleary and another Wings player got crossed up on the switch. And if an opponent with any speed gets a step on Cleary it's pretty much over, so he ended up taking the hook.

Lashoff is a rookie on the third pair. He's played 48 games in the NHL, and i think he's mostly been fine. Kindl continues to be incredibly frustrating. It's his 4th year on the team, he's a skill player, and he's really improved in the offensive zone. But he's still making terrible plays in his own end like one last night, along with turning the puck over too much with his desperate clearing attempts instead of solid first passes. Quincey is well, Quincey. He's been plagued by this his whole career. Stretches where he looks very solid (which he has on the Wings), followed by stretches where you can't believe he's in the NHL.
-
Are you sure? Because I saw Quincey leave them unprotected to go to the bar for a beer. Kindl followed close behind to see if he needed help carrying it.
-
I agree to a point, but a GM doesn't have to understand it. Because it's a complex issue is exactly why you don't commit to that player for 11 years. Mule had been on the Red Wings for 3 seasons before they gave him the monster contract. If they were so pronounced they impacted his daily life and game, they had to at least had to have a sense for his issues and personality by then.
-
Not to beat this point to death because I absolutely blame Quincey for the turnover too, but Kindl went behind his own net to cover no one. mistake one is Quincey going behind his own net and getting cut off instead of going to the corner, mistake two is Kindl following him. I said it once already but it seriously is like this team is actively trying to lose games sometimes. I can't wait until Ericsson gets back. I can't see Babcock actually benching the dynamic duo, but reducing their minutes should help.
-
It's all completely speculation at this point. If Franzen had issues managing his anxiety anytime while on the Red Wings, then Holland is an even bigger fool than I thought for giving him an 11 year contract based on a few good seasons.
-
Exactly. Quincey made a bad turnover but Kindl had an equally bad move to cause the goal. Possibly worse considering he wasn't under pressure. Who was he thinking he was covering behind his own net??
-
Quincey with the turnover. Kindl inexplicably following Quincey behind his own net instead of covering the front. Game over. Nice teamwork guys.
-
Ugh. The Quincey Kindl pairing was brutal tonight.
-
Another crazy move by Dats. Nice work by Bert too. The scary thing is Datsyuk is still coming up with new dekes.
-
Another big save by Jimmy. And someone needs to tell Tatar you don't get cute stickhandling out of your own end. dang. Mickey just said the same thing.
-
I'll forgive you for your turnover Kindl because I think the shot on the Alfie turnover went off your glove and wide.
-
Good lord Kindl. Awful turnover along the boards. It seriously sometimes looks like the Wings are trying to give the game away. Alfie with a turnover like that??
-
Thanks Flip! You finally found your scoring touch for Detroit! Hate to say it but Wings need to hang on here and at least get a point.
-
Z!! Man is he hot this year.
-
Nice save by Jimmy. They keep getting behind the Wings D all night.
-
It's hilarious how many people feel suddenly inspired to post in the GDT when Cleary takes a penalty.
-
Bad switch and Cleary takes the hook.
