As if to rub it in, Flip lobbed a harmless backhander towards the goalie tonight that somehow trickled in for his 5th goal of the year.
-
he definitely was. It takes a certain kind of crazy to laugh in the face of Wendel Clark as he's swinging at you.

Sedins Sign 4 year $28 Million/piece extension

Basically. Kudos to vancouver for going along with these two acting like they're conjoined twins I guess, but it has to be a pain in the ass dealing with signing them that way. -
If it were any other goalie in the league, I'd agree. But Emery is a beast. Remember him pounding Biron, then going with Peters immediately afterwards and not only holding his own but is laughing the whole time? Emery is too good of a fighter to be going after a goalie who clearly doesn't want to go.

I'm not sure exactly how you're able to gauge the force of the punches from a youtube video, but when a guy is punching an unwilling participant in the back of the head and still trying to hit him when it's being broken up, it's not holding back. I think a suspension for Emery is unlikely but absolutely deserved. This isn't Vernon or Osgood fighting Roy. That happened at center ice and the first one was Roy coming out to stick up for a teammate. Emery skates the length of the rink to beat the snot out of someone who didn't want to go. Emery is a goalie but he's tough enough that it's not that different from an enforcer dropping gloves with a non-fighter and pounding him. All the other fights were pathetic by the Flyers too, but not that big of a deal ultimately. The team is just a mess. I don't know if I'd say every fight has been pointless but mostly agree. And it didn't help that the ref was actively keeping Washington players from stepping in. They should've ignored him, but still.

Much like the letter to Fraser, it was mostly just a bunch of butthurt Nucks fans finding an excuse to continue whining about Kassian's suspension. They're insane if they really think those plays are similar.
-
I watched Emery's post game presser on the Flyers site to make sure I heard him correctly. When asked about Holtby he says: "He didn't want to fight and I said basically 'protect yourself' or whatever, ya know. He didn't really have much of a choice." http://flyers.nhl.com To make it even more interesting, apparently Holmgren went down to talk to the team between periods. Not too far into the 3rd period, all hell breaks loose.
-
To make it even more pathetic, the Flyers press named Emery the 3rd star of the game. He had a .733 Save %, so they sure weren't giving it to him for his goaltending.

I started a thread here about the Philly Caps game rather than the GDT. I'm guessing people will be talking about this for a bit. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/topic/75500-philly-capitals-line-brawl/

Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 5m Babcock said Franzen was sick and feeling nauseous, that's why he left after 2 periods.

2003 called and wanted me to remind you that's a tired joke. Saw the edit and the YT. It is pretty good. The one to Stamkos was better though he didn't finish. I guess he does do it once every couple years? I just don't get what Flips problem was here. That he could show flashed of skill like that but then seems so reluctant offensively for long stretches. I can't either specifically but I don't think he took that many, did he?
-
Tatar is saying it's not his, it's Andersson's. Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 5m Tatar said he didn't score that third goal. It was Andersson's.
-
The goalie ultimately made the save on Stamkos but Flip had an end to end rush tonight where he carried the puck through like 5 guys and made a nice pass to Stamkos. Where the hell was that when he was a Red Wing?
-
Didn't Hudler get sat when he was top 9? And not a forward but Ian White got sat after being the Wings #2 D-man. Babcock's attitude about Mule seems to be the same as some people here at LGW, a half-ass Franzen is still better than most of the other options.

Sedins Sign 4 year $28 Million/piece extension

They apparently wanted 5, but the Canucks wanted 3 so they split the difference. I can't remember who tweeted that but I can probably dig it up. Lebrun maybe? EDIT: Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 4h Canucks originally wanted three-year deals for twins, agent JP Barry was pushing for five years, so yes, they found the middle -
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=689353&navid=DL|NHL|home Am I the only one who doesn't get this move?

Do I really have to put disclaimers after a statement like that? Obviously they fulfill different roles. Obviously I'm not saying we should go get Hudler. But Jiri Friggin Hudler has more points than anyone on the Detroit Red Wings. No matter how you slice it, that speaks to how offensively crippled this team is right now.
-
No to mention Hudler has more points than anyone on the Wings, and has played one less game. ouch.
-
It's an interesting theory and his play certainly warranted it at times. But why would they protect Franzen's feelings like that when Babcock doesn't hesitate to bench and call out anyone? Unless it's more to protect Holland and management from the ire of fans because Babs is benching a guy they have signed for 6 more seasons? I hope he was benched. And I hope it happens more when he decides not to show up for games.
-
If Franzen really thinks he's only had two good chances then he truly isn't a goal scorer because he doesn't understand what a good chance actually is. Which would be all fine and good except his contract is terrible and it was given to him in great part because of his goal scoring. And yes, I know the cap hit is low but that's like buying a $100,000 car and saying the payments are low because you financed it for 11 years. They didn't give him $43 million because he's a solid two way forward who can chip in a few goals. They gave it to the guy who put up 59 points and had 23 points in the postseason. Kenny Holland at the time of the contract: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4061069 The reality is Franzen's best years were apparently all ready behind him.

Sabres' Scott offered in-person hearing.
haroldsnepsts replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Given that he wasn't suspended before, it is pretty severe. Though he did get a phonecall from Shanny after the Kessel incident. And I'm guessing if they had a rule to suspend him on then, they would have. The reality is Scott isn't even a hockey player. And already this season he's jumped a star player in Kessel and now tried to brain another one in Eriksson. So you have a guy who can't play hockey trying to take out guys who can. -
I strongly second what VM1138 has posted. We've spent way too much time cleaning up the garbage in the this thread so it's on a very short leash. Any more off-topic, trolling or spamming posts and the thread gets locked and people get suspended.
-
Agreed. I also have to wonder if he can even skate well enough to play at all given his knee.
-
According to Khan, Kozlov will be there so the Russian 5 will be back together. Even with honorary member Doug Brownov!
