He hasn't started a full season so it's hard to be completely sure, but Bernier looked very good when he played in LA. Quick got hot and just played unbelievable to secure his spot as starter, but there were those thinking it should've been Bernier. I'd be surprised if he didn't end up being the starting goalie for the Leafs.

I was watching that game. Definitely a brain fart goal. It's always been terrifying when Quick decides to play the puck. He's gotten much better the last couple seasons but it still can be an adventure. Too bad too because other than that goal he was great the rest of the game. He makes these saves where moving post to post he slides in the splits. It's crazy. Made a great save like that last night. Too funny. I think the 200 footer, Statue of Liberty, and Lidstrom's should be the top 3 (not necessarily in that order).

Anyone working on a GDT for tonight? I was surprised there wasn't one already up.

Stuart definitely did do that, and it was unnecessary. Reckless, not malicious. But let's pretend for a second that there is a shred of consistency in punishments this season. If that is the standard that gets 3 games, what will an actual malicious hard hit to the head get? A Raffi Torres special would warrant banishment from the league and jail time based on what Stuart just got. It is definitely a thankless job. I wish I could track down the article that implied Shanny came out with hard suspensions across the board when he started but got so much heat from GM's and the NHLPA that it reverted back to the wheel of justice. But now with the increased attention on concussions in sports maybe owners are allowing the harsher punishment again.

Here's a somewhat better angle. Looks like his shoulder caught Nash in the jaw. He got a fair amount of body but he does an upward motion that makes it look not great. And a star player got injured, so he's probably gonna get some games.

I like Brunner and think he could've been a nice addition here, but here's a pretty good example of why he would not be guaranteed a spot in the top 6. It is something he could've worked his way up to, but he's not defensively responsible enough at the moment to earn that ice time. At least not under Babcock. Not sure if this counts as a turnover because a player on the other team never actually touched the puck, but it still ended up in his own net. For those who don't know, that was game 7 in the Smythe division final and turned out to be the game winning goal, knocking Edmonton out of the playoffs.

Possibly. Though in the 2 games he played, Sammy averaged 9 minutes. So even when he does play, Sammy is an old, overpaid 4th liner. I kept hoping when he was actually healthy he'd prove me wrong and at least come close to earning his contract. But if the best he does is the 4th line, it looks like he could be a total waste of roster and cap space.

I missed the game but Sammy was already a healthy scratch? Terrific. This signing is turning out to be just as awful as I thought. Sammy on LTIR last season may turn out to be the most help he gave the Wings. It doesn't bode well when you have a player who is 6'2" 218lbs, one of the few right handed shots on the team, can play on the PP, and you still scratch him against Boston.

For $3 million he needs to give the cars a full detailing. And maybe give everyone a ride home.

Sammy played a whopping 9 and a half minutes. Two and a half of which was on the power play. Right now he's looking like one of Holland's worst signings. But hopefully he'll find some way to come close to earning his contract.

Most of those shots weren't quality. They got beat to pucks all night. Couldn't break Carolina's trap. Got flustered by the forecheck. The Canes got fortunate bounces on their goals but were carrying play more of the game than the Wings were.

Cleary didn't play like s***. On the list of guys who looked like crap tonight, Cleary is probably middle of the pack but he's fun to rip on I guess. Weiss and the whole 2nd line has been invisible up until the moment he had the puck sitting in front of the wide open net. Sammuelsson, our $3 million fourth liner, was invisible. Friggin Emmerton was more noticeable than half the guys this team will be relying on. Like I said, everyone not named Abby or Z should be unhappy with how they played.

Hopefully this will get the 2nd line going, because they have been invisible up until that goal.
