    NHLPA approves hybrid icing

I understand the rationale behind using hybrid icing, but it seems like it's going to be a mess this season because it comes down to the discretion of the linesmen .

    Emmerton on Waivers

Exactly, though I like most of the moves Holland made this offseason. Unfortunately they're still dealing with the repercussions from his awful moves last year.

Are teams going to "bait" us into fighting?

You guys can beat this topic to death if you like, but do it without the baiting and insults please. Otherwise your lengthy posts will vanish into the ether and could result in suspension.

Philosophic Question: End of Season Awards

The last two years it hasn't. I'm hoping they're an anomaly and not a trend. To the OP, because there are so many awards that go to forwards is why I wish the Selke actually went to the true defensive forwards who otherwise don't get much attention. More of a guy like Bob Gainey.

    9/28 Pre-Season GDT : at Toronto Maple Leafs 3, Red Wings 1

So far I'm not really a fan of hybrid icing. And I still don't understand why it was waved off on what led to Toronto's first goal.

I'm giving them a pass tonight. They probably don't know much about the Wings as it is, especially with all the kids in the lineup.

Reimer has not looked very sharp tonight. Lots of slop on saves.

It'd be good to at least give him a shot. Unlike Emmerton, there's still hope Glendening can turn into an NHL regular.

why was that icing waved off?

I figured. I was kidding mostly. Emmerton is a plug at best. It'll be nice not to hear anyone use that stupid nickname.

Just able to watch the game now. How's Emdog look?

Are teams going to "bait" us into fighting?

And as much as I like seeing Ericsson play with more of an edge, him fighting takes our #2 D man off the ice for 5 minutes. If he drops the gloves in the regular season he needs to make sure he's taking someone important off the ice with him.

Did they change name plates on jersey?

No worries. It's become sort of an inadvertent LGW tradition, so I'm glad you asked!

    Brendan Smith

Smith's NHL career hasn't even been the length of one full season. He was getting middle pairing minutes in the playoffs last year, so Babcock must see something in him. Until he gets a full regular season under his belt, it's hard for me to have any idea what his ceiling is in terms of development.

    Wings to Keep Tootoo?

I don't know that anyone would've prevented it, but it was sad when a 38 year old with a bad back is the one to drop the gloves with Weber next time the teams played. Good on Bert but doing it, but jeez. Bert fighting SOB twice in the same game is a good example of how sticking up for yourself can change the tone of the game. They were running guys all game until that point.

Filppula to Tampa 5 yr $5 million

I never disliked him either. I just kept hoping he'd produce more offense. As they point out in that article he's got the skills. If Tampa is looking at his offensive contribution as a bonus, then they should be very happy with Flip. He's definitely a solid two-way forward. It'll be interesting to see how he does there. With all the time and money they put into Flip, it's still a shame Holland lost him for nothing.

Devils sign Brunner 2 yrs. $2.5 million AAV

At the time, that was the only info available. The year and term hadn't come out yet. I changed the thread title to reflect the details of the deal.

    buffalo and toronto fight

Nice! I hadn't seen that. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/26744/sabres-coach-rolston-fined-for-leafs-game He certainly deserved it. Sending out the goons in a preseason game to seek retribution where one of his players was a willing participant in a fight.

    buffalo and toronto fight

Kessel suspended three preseason games (the rest of the preseason). http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=683953&navid=nhl:topheads Seems fair to me. He got a match penalty and now has repeat offender status so next time maybe he'll cool it with the stickwork. Though the Sabres coach should've been at least fined for sending out his goons as a retaliation for a fight.

Devils sign Brunner 2 yrs. $2.5 million AAV

True. I remember that being part of it. Or at least speculation that was part of it. with a big enough number after the dollar sign though I'm sure he would've let go of the guarantee. (not saying the Wings should have done that).

Devils sign Brunner 2 yrs. $2.5 million AAV

Did it ever come out how much the Wings offered him? I know he turned down a 2 and 3 year deal but I never heard the dollar amount.

So about ESPN and their hockey "knowledge"....

Did they do this last year? I'd be curious to know how their predictions fared compared to actual final season standings.
