    Jets release Ian White

I just don't get the lockerroom cancer stuff. I've never heard anything legit about it regarding White. Same goes for him having choice words for Babcock or being unprofessional about being benched. Did Babcock sit someone and got mad at them because they accepted being benched? He's a seasoned vet and was honest about not liking and being benched and wanting to play. But I never saw anything that reached the level of what you guys are talking about here.

Lidstrom will play in Winter Classic Alumni Game

Can Yzerman even skate well enough anymore to participate in something like that? It was painful enough after his osteotomy. I can only imagine how it is now.

As I mentioned, I'm not able to watch the game right now so can someone please tell me are there goaltenders on the ice?

ah. that's too bad. I was hoping Kindl was developing at least a little edge to his game.

Not able to watch the game but just checked the box score. Kindl got in a fight??

ESPN Future Power Rankings: Red Wings #2

Regular season he's been very consistent. I think it's not unreasonable to say his play has been declining regarding playoffs though.

    Pulkkinen Scheduled for Hearing

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 6m Wings' prospect Teemu Pulkkinen suspended for four preseason games for his hit on Chicago's Michael Kostka on Tuesday.

    Pulkkinen Scheduled for Hearing

I agree with you about the league's inconsistency but the Nolan hit is a bad example. Pulkinnen's hit was from behind that sent a player flying headfirst into the boards. Nolan's involved the head but made solid body contact, which is key, plus his skates stayed on the ice and he kept his elbow tucked. It was a textbook example of a legal hit that contacts the head. The explanation video even refers back to an almost identical hit by Weber that they've used in player safety videos as an example of what's legal.

Phoenix Coyotes' Paul Bissonnette to appeal suspension.

It was a clean hard hit by Nolan too. Is there any video of Bissonnette actually leaving the bench?

Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal

I didn't exactly want him back but I think the worst part of the Cleary signing will be listening to everyone here complain about him all year, regardless of how he actually plays. I'm guessing the biggest role Cleary fills in the coming season is scapegoat.

NHL enforcing uniform rule from 1964

People are definitely speculating that's the real reason behind it. I'm trying to save my outrage until it sounds like it might happen.

    Pulkkinen Scheduled for Hearing

He should be suspended, in part because it's pre-season. Kostka's upper body may have been turned so it wasn't square in the numbers, but Kostka was essentially facing the boards the whole time he made the move behind the net, with his back to Pulkkinen. What decides it for me is there's really no way this results in a good hit based on where Kostka was in relation to the boards and the angle Pulkkinen was coming from. Any result sends Kostka headfirst into the boards. Stupid play and he should've let up. That being said I don't think it warrants 5 or more games. A couple preseason games would be enough. I don't see why they'd need an in person hearing, unless they're going to suspend him for the remainder of the pre-season to make an empty gesture about punishing bad hits.

NHL enforcing uniform rule from 1964

Every story seems to latch on to the part about the jersey tuck, but it's really an entire list of jersey requirements. Some of it I'm guessing is aesthetics to keep the league from looking sloppy. Some of it is minor protection, like your jersey having to go down to the cuff of your gloves. And the rest is probably about advertisers. In the explanation they make note of only having logos of league approved equipment visible. I can't really see this being enforced during key parts of a game unless a player continually and intentionally breaks the rule. We'll see I guess. Here's a photo with the explanation of the rules. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capitals-insider/files/2013/09/2013-14_RuleChanges_Page_2.jpg

    24CH

I caught an episode last night. It's cool to see behind the scenes of a team and definitely worth watching. They showed Michael Ryder getting traded to the Canadians. Basically waking up from his pre-game nap in Dallas to find out he'd been traded. Getting on a plane, spending the night in Columbus, and showing up to play for the Habs with the suit on his back and his hockey equipment. As I think he says during the episode, it reminds you that these players are actually people.

Just a friendly reminder regarding discussion of streaming sites. From the forum rules: What happens in PM's is your own business, but discussion of illegal streaming or torrent sites in threads is a suspendible offense. Legal sites like Gamecenter of course are fine to talk about. Thanks.
  17. The Red Wings once acquired Ulf Samuelsson, but some people would seriously not watch games because they signed Cleary?

So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely frustrated by Holland's over-ripe philosophy. The Wings succeeded last season in spite of Holland's philosophy, not because of it. All the injuries allowed the kids to play. To clarify, I was mainly referring to speculation on Tatar's attitude and Holland deciding on 5 games. I'm not saying management will necessarily do the right thing and give the kid a chance. I just meant that their decision will be based on more than the next few games.

So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

Who the heck is Sarah Lindenau? This tweet is ridiculous: So let me get this straight, she is using his body language to make a statement about what she thinks Tatar thinks that Babcock and Holland are thinking? No self respecting journalist would do that. It's a tweet from a blogger. It doesn't mean anything to me at this point regarding Tatar's actual attitude and mindset. Of course Tatar is worried and hopefully plays well in camp, but management is not going to base their decision solely on 5 games. He's played 27 games in the NHL and a ton in the AHL. Holland and company should have a well rounded picture of this kid by now.

Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal

I think that will greatly depend on Cleary's health and contribution this year. I like Cleary but signing him to a multiple year deal next year would be on a 35+ contract, wouldn't it? That's a little scary given his health and how he plays. Holland will likely thrown in a NTC just for fun so everyone on the team can have one except the captain.

Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal

Honestly I'm not sure how to feel about this. It all depends on how Holland trims the roster and who's getting ice time.

Report: Cleary to sign with PHI, 3 yrs, $2.75m/yr, NTC

I wouldn't mind Cleary coming back to play in the bottom 6 if the Wings weren't already neck deep in forwards, a lot of them being younger guys who could use the playing time. Holland really screwed himself by handing out NTC's like candy, and now I don't know what he's got planned if he's still trying to fit in Cleary.
