Yeah but they seem to alternate between hating Getzlaf, Ryan and Perry. Like I said, I'm not sold on the guy. Lot of great qualities. only 26. I always wondered if it was the chicken or the egg with his unhappiness and being shopped around by his GM.

Not sure why you think I'm overreacting. People use all sorts of reasons to shoot down players coming here. If someone's going to use Holland as one of them, I pretty much don't believe the reasoning unless it's a quote from the man himself. And St. James likes to throw those around a bit on twitter where quoting someone gets a little fuzzy. More on topic, Crymson used it in the context to say it's more indicative of how Ryan plays now. I disagree and think 6 games isn't very indicative of how someone will play in the future. Especially someone in the situation Ryan had been in. Honestly I don't know how I would feel about him coming to Detroit. I've never been a huge Ryan fan but he's a scorer and a big body. Like I said it'll be interesting to see how he does on a new team.

Agreed. Though Weiss was due to injury. It's St. James just spouting things off. If the Wings liked Ryan overall it very well could've been better that he was coming off a crappy playoffs so his value wouldn't be as high. They very well may not have been interested but I highly doubt his 6 games against the Wings were as big a factor as she's making it sound. It'll be interesting to see what he does now that he's out of Anaheim and getting a fresh start.

There's reasoning behind why people need to cite sources. It's not just us being "source police." It's from past experience. During deadlines days like this it's important people only create topics with reliable sources and link to them. Otherwise the board gets littered with rumors and false deals as everyone tries to post the latest info and chaos ensues. It's also why intentionally posting false and misleading topics is an immediate permaban. It's severe but became necessary because people would post fake deals to troll people. If someone wants to create a topic on a deal, it's not a lot to ask that they take two seconds to copy and paste a link.

So this one is a fact exactly why other than it helps your case? When people make comments regarding what Wings players or management have said, I prefer that it's actually backed up with a source is all. But if you needed the attention then I guess that's an added bonus. Specifically regarding this comment about Ryan, I don't put much stock in it because it's St. James. As you pointed out, she's not a very good source. They very well may have had little interest in Ryan but I put little faith in her actually knowing the real reasons why. EDIT: To clarify, Ryan has been in the league 6 seasons now and has played a ton of games against the Wings, regular season and playoffs. Holland's decision was most likely on the sum total of what he knows about Ryan and what it would take to acquire him. Not his 6 last playoff games. That sounds like a journalist just throwing out a little tidbit of her own.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 7m Iggy deal: $1.8 M base salary, $3.7 M games played bonus, $500,000 goal scoring/team playoff performance: total $6 M

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 5m @TSNRyanRishaug. Performance based for Iginla. 1 year $6 mil with Bruins.

If we hadn't already signed Alfie and didn't have Sammy, Bertuzzi and potentially Cleary coming back, I'd be a lot more interested. If Holland gets rid of someone, particularly Sammy, I am interested. But that can't happen anymore can it? Sammy has a NTC (brilliant move Kenny) and is "injured?" Is that the latest on him?
-
Agreed. I like Brunner but when he said it was about "the right fit" I wonder if that translates to "somewhere the coach won't be on my ass all the time about backchecking."
-
Oh, her? I feel like someone said she wasn't a very reputable source.
-
Speaking of claims with no responsibility attached, I'm still waiting for a link or source about Holland losing interest after watching Ryan in the playoffs. I don't remember hearing anything of the sort but maybe I missed it.
-
Brunner turned down Holland's offers and is moving on.
-
Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 17m Holland said he's still trying to sign Cleary but Brunner is moving on.

Link? But was he a malcontent before they started shopping him around? (I honestly don't know) The Ducks dangled Ryan several times. After a while that's got to get to you as a player.

Filppula to Tampa 5 yr $5 million
haroldsnepsts replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
I know hindsight is 20/20 but it sure would've been nice for the Wings to get something in return for a player they drafted and developed in their system. In the end it's a business so no hard feelings towards Flip, but I think Detroit has been on the overly loyal end sometimes and end up paying for it. -
Probably because he's not as bad as a lot of people here make him out to be. He put up 9 goals and 15 points in 48 games and 10 points in 14 playoff games. There's no questioning his compete level, toughness and heart. That can still help a lot of teams. It's just a matter of his health and what role you want him to play.

No problem. I don't consider Eklund a reputable source no matter how he ranks them. For things like contract signings it's best to stick with guys like Lebrun, Dreger, and McKenzie. People who may not break the news first but actually have to make sure it's correct to protect their reputation as hockey journalists and also the reputation of TSN. -

I kept this thread because people had already posted in this one about the signing, but for future reference: Don't ever post an Eklund rumor in this forum. They belong in the rumors forum. Second, any threads regarding signings need legitimate confirmation from a reputable source. -

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 3m As per @Real_ESPNLeBrun, Valteri Filppula agrees to 5 year deal for $5M per year with TB. -
LAST WARNING AND THEN PEOPLE ARE GETTING SUSPENSIONS. Stay on topic. If I have to delete another post, someone's getting a vacation.

The topic is about the Weiss signing. Let's talk about that please and not criticizing each others level of fandom.
-
I guess one thing that's interesting is didn't Lecavalier sign for 5 years @ $22.5 mill? I think he's only 3 years older than Weiss, and much bigger.
-
Nice. I don't know a lot about Weiss but seems like a good value and replacement for Flip. Combine this signing with Alfie's and it really changes how Holland's offseason has looked. With the way things seemed to go with the Wings regarding UFA's I was afraid he'd end up with the Blues at the last second.
