When was Quincey going to get 20+ minutes to contribute? Meech looked good last year when he was getting 20+ minutes as well. Quincey scoring a goal and an assist against a Blues team with no defense and a rookie goalie isn't exaclty something to hang your hat on.

Ducks fans better be ready for some years of pain after this one.
-
Don't worry, he'll be back for the latter match against Travis Moen.
-
Nope. Downey wouldn't have done anything with the Wings up in the third. Never would've seen the ice.
-
I'll ignore the majority of the thread and give my opinion based on their play the past few seasons: Zetterberg Datsyuk Hossa Franzen Filppula Cleary Draper Samuelsson Maltby Hudler Kopecky Holmstrom And for the record by no means are the bottom 3 bad defensively. They all make the necessary safe plays.

Stuart's puckhandling skills are right there with Samuelsson. Just trade Lebda and put Meech there.

Shocking: Wings are going to keep McCarty around.

We never won anything with Grimson did we? -
Holland's stance on Enforcers: Once and For All

On a side note, Helm was sent to GR which probably means McCarty will stick around. Not your guys first choice but to me that signifies he'll play next time another forward is out. -

Joey was a hockey player though and he was a winner. There's a huge difference. Like I referenced in another thread, if Downey would've committed to getting better like Colton Orr of the Rangers did, he wouldn't have been banished to 4th in line in terms of callups. -
Holland's stance on Enforcers: Once and For All

I believe that it's just magnified this season because of all the talent the team has. Last year the Wings were fine with Downey playing regularly and then signing McCarty at the end of the year. This season is a special season, this is a one year window and I feel that just the mere fact of Downey and McCarty being resigned reaffirms my belief that Holland cares about the players being protected but I guess he's not as proactive as many would like. After this season there's going to be changes, there's going to be more room for different types of players to make an impact but for the time being, with the Wings cap room, and the players who are currently in the lineup there's not enough of a justification to have that insurance policy out there. Once the season gets going a little bit I'm sure we'll see a lot more callups. We all know during the playoffs the Wings play a more in your face brand of hockey and I think this lineup is more conducive to the playoffs than any other year I can think of. On a side note, I'd be shocked if the Wings didn't bring in another hungry veteran for the playoff grind, just for extra motivation. -
Perhaps he got traded for JayBo.

Agreed, Cam Janssen's 4 hits this season are going to be the difference. And DJ King giving those scary glares from the pressbox are going to make Pavel and Hossa weak in the knees with fright. All the Wings need to do is have Franzen knock out Jackman again.
-
As long as you can acknowledge this is all subjective we can continue.
-
No. Hossa's strength is down low since there's few defensemen who can contain him. Putting him on the point takes away a lot of his effectiveness.

Downey and McCarty needed to work out with Colton Orr in the offseason. Orr went from a no talent why-is-he-in-the-lineup player to someone who gives the Rangers a 4th line and is obviously willing to drop the gloves. Orr can play 8 minutes a night now while being one of the best heavyweights in the game. Downey and McCarty can barely handle 5 minutes a game before needing a respirator. Even if you disagree with Holland and his idea of powerplay as being an "enforcer" the way this team is built and has always been built is no conducive to 4 minute players.
-
While teams have shown you can have all lefties and be successful, the Wings always showed during the playoffs against Pittsburgh that all lefties can be a detriment because it turns into a half ice game with only one-timers on one side.
-
I think I should rename this thread the Twilight Zone because it's incredible how so many people can see things so differently watching the exact same thing. The Wings had the Rangers fans crying because of what they did to them and not just talking their whining about the late powerplay. Calgary fans do it all the time as well and wonder why their team never does anything about it. It's delusion to think the Wings are soft.
-
With your gorilla math the Wings are soft, to every other team in the league the Wings are a nightmare and no one wants to play them. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/10/wi...el_opponen.html Feast on that a little, same old stuff but at least the carousel will change direction for a bit.

Even with the speculation of this making room for Helm there's been no reports that he's even going to be assigned to GR. Kinda like how they waived Downey multiple times last year but never reassigned him. This probably has all to do with cap space.
-
Not enough space for Leino but this could mean that Helm is here to stay.
-
Err the Wings are 27% on the PP.

The more plausible theory is we're still accustomed to watching the Wings play playoff style championship caliber hockey. BlueMonk has said this a few times but it'll take a little while for the Wings to come around and start treating these games as more than just extended-exhibition games. The defensive lapses and poor coverage is frustrating but when the Wings are still winning more than they're losing it's hard to get too worried.
