Todd McLellan is probably going to be a really good head coach but anyone who wasn't as arrogant as Ron Wilson coming in and took the shackles off the players would see improvement. On that same note, Sharks fans have said that Thornton and Marleau are already transformed into Selke winners 5 games into the season. McLellan is doing a good job but let's not go overboard. The playoffs are where we see how good the coach and the players are. Besides, unless someone can actually tell us what McLellan did as an assistant coach we don't know how much influence or affect he had on the team. I know he did, considering the players liked him and the Sharks really did as well but it's all speculation.

Once again this is a fallacy. Early in the year Dallas Drake wasn't laying guys out, he wasn't great on the forecheck and he wasn't very effective at all. Kopecky led our team in hits and Lilja was our most effective hitter all of last year. Kronwall's new found confidence and Stuart add to that. Regular season Drake was completely different than playoff Drake.
-
I think you're remember playoff Dallas Drake and not regular season Dallas Drake. Early in the season Dally had a few fights and a few hits but largely he wasn't a factor at all. Many people were confused as to why he was even on the team or playing and mocked the idea that he was here for the post-season. While Drake ending up having a big impact during the post-season, during the regular season his role was insignificant.

Datsyuk and Hossa were finding each other just as well as Datsyuk and Zetterberg usually do last night. Hossa had 3 or 4 golden opportunities as a result of getting a great feed from Datsyuk. There's no reason to blow up the entire gameplan and go back to old faithful right now.
-
No cap space even if the Wings wanted to.
-
Like others have said, a one for one trade makes sense, but both? Talk about a massive overpayment. We trade Datsyuk and Zetterberg for Crosby prior to the playoffs last year and we don't win the cup. 'Nuff said.

That line was pretty good in the playoffs when Hudler and Draper were leading the team in scoring very early on in the Nashville series.

There's no way Kiprusoff is a 2nd teir goalie and Giguere is a 3rd tier. Kipper has had one great season and one great playoffs. Then he was solid, then he was just average.
-
Can I be the first to speculate how much this will affect his next contract???

1. Brodeur 2. Luongo 3. Lundqvist 4. Turco 5. Nabokov 6. Giguere 7. Fluery 8. Bryzgalov 9. Price 10. Osgood 11. Miller 12. Kiprusoff 13. Backstrom 14. Vokoun 15. Toskala

I like that Z can have 3 points in 3 games and still be in the midst of his worst 3 game stretch ever.
-
Different players. Abdelkator is a 3rd line/4th line energy/heart guy with some offensive ability and Kindl is a defensemen. Latendresse is a good player but I still would rather have Kindl and Gator.

On one hand you're right, on the other hand this is why this organization is so great. Quincey needed to move on and there was no room for him on this team. He's behind 3 people already entrenched in his role and that was not going to change unless there's a plethora of injuries. Once next year comes and Ericsson is out of options and on the team Quincey moves down even futher. Whether we like it or not, Lebda is going no where. Lilja is going no where for this season or the next and the top 4 is locked up. Holland really likes Meech and the Wings are determined to get him some games. Where does Quincey fit in? I don't know about you but in a pinch I'd rather play Chelios 8 minutes and 2-3 on the PK than some rookie with 13 games of experience. Quincey is the equivalent to Matt Ellis and after his poor training camp and average to below-average preseason, he sealed his own fate whether or not Chelios was here or not.
-
Quincey was gone whether or not Chelios was signed. The only reason the Wings are carrying 8 defensemen is because of Chelios, they would've went with 7 without him. But that aside, Kyle Quincey hasn't been in the Wings long term plans for a while, his development has stalled and if it weren't this year it would be next year.

Ryan Hollweg suspended two games and another three games

That retarded ape needs to be thrown out of the league. -
It's for the best. Quincey will get to play with Jack Johnson on IR and the Wings get much needed cap relief.

Ehhhhh, realism isn't always fact based.

http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/2008/10...er-factory.html The only Red Wings without a giveaway were Andreas Lilja, Kirk Maltby, Marian Hossa, Tomas Kopecky and Johan Franzen.

anyone else see Satellite Hotstove on HNIC last night?

I wouldn't count on that, Z is a little bit more accomplished than Datsyuk was when Datsyuk signed his contract. I could see Z signing for around 7.6m but not more than 8. -
The lines as is would have to be absolutely horrible for Babcock to throw everything out the window and go back to it. It's a great ace in the hole if there's an emergency but these are the lines (for the most part) as it'll stand. Hudler might go down, Samuelsson or Cleary might come up but Datsyuk and Z are staying apart.
-
Quincey was gone this year or the next, no reason to delay the inevitable.
-
Exactly but we're not debating that, we're debating semantics of a fairy tale.
-
Well of course he isn't the perfect choice for a top 2 center at this point of his career how many 23 or 24 year old 2nd line centers are out there on elite teams? At this point he's a perfect 3rd line center but if Datsyuk and Z are together, Filppula is the best guy to center the 2nd line with Hossa. That's what I'm saying - there's no one else on the roster who can anchor that line.
