I really hope McCarty doesn't feel entitled to play just because of his history with the team. He's a 4th liner who hasn't played at a high level in years, this isn't the time to bend over backwards for the guy. He'll play again, but he had to know the odds of him cracking the playoff lineup was slim to none.

Very unlikely he'll touch the ice in the playoffs, when everyone is healthy he won't be in the equation. As for the "benching" I think people are reading too much into it, Downey has earned his minutes this year I don't think this is a situation where things need to be handed to Mac. He'll keep working hard and hopefully get to where he wants to be.

Regardless, you still have to not overextend yourself next year when you know you're taking on at least 8m the following year.

Gotta re-sign Filppula, Howard and Stuart then save enough to re-sign Zetterberg and Franzen. The Wings could possibly add another decent player but we don't have that much cap space to have too much fun with.

True, but I doubt it'll affect them making the playoffs, they just won't be as dominant all the time.

Probably because it's easier to show your development on defense when you're on the ice as opposed to running around looking for fights when fighting skill is last on the totem poll of importance for a guy like him?

The problem is if he can't hold his stick he's going to be worthless. I'm guessing it's his thumb or pointer which would make it impossible. You can play with a broken foot, just not a broken finger.

Exactly, it's not Babcock's fault Hasek got injured and the plan is now screwed up. What's he supposed to do? Throw it out the window and make Osgood the starter because it's "easier"?

He's taken enough time, if he says he's ready, he's ready. You do not sit Lidstrom for an extra game just because. If Lidstrom himself,the doctors, Babcock and Holland are all satisfied with it, I'm satisfied. One more game won't do anything but put him behind.
