    New Timing for Games?

    Lines for Tonight's Game

Solid, hardworking, responsible shifts? Babcock knows he can put him out there and he'll work in the corners and get a cycle going in the offensive zone. Downey will play, but Ellis is first on the pecking order. I'd guess Downey will get about 3 games while Franzen is injured. Regardless, Ellis or Downey, neither will be a factor in the outcome of the games.

    Official Downey On Waivers

Read the redwingscorner blog on one of the first 3 pages, it wasn't so "quick" to waive Downey, it was a finacial move, he's still with the team, still practicing and still can play at any time. People see the word "waive" and instantly associate it with being demoted, that isn't the case here. Also, Ellis has a one-way contract, Downey signed the deal for exactly this scenerio. BTW, management told Jason Williams to buy a house here too.

I can respect that, but as for Burke, I'm not exactly sure about the impact, the main cogs which won the cup with or without the other additions just flocked there and Burke got the credit. But that's the game, that's how it works, you have to be lucky to be good. Will Holland's philosophy get this team to the cup? I believe so, you don't that's perfectly fine. I just feel it's dissapointing that last season this Wings team went to the WCF, played the style of hockey that people were screaming for since 2002 and it's dismissed as a fluke or it didn't happen. It's just really dissapointing that type of reaction. I don't think some fans know what they want, not necessarily talking about you, Lou.

Burke is one of the top 3 GM's in the league, but he hasn't built a cuo winner either. If we're bagging on Holland for inheriting the right talent and having things fall into their lap, Burke is in the same spot. Whenever top GM lists go out and people in the hockey know are asked or fans other than Wings fans, Holland is at the top. Why? It's more than just winning cups, it's about being consistent and staying a contender no matter what and that's what's happened. No other team in the league could've survived through the turnover that the Wings have had to, much less winning the President's Trophy and not missing a beat. At all. Holland isn't the be all end all, but he certaintly isn't the clueless figure head that you paint him out to be.

Don't state it as a fact without any facts to back it up. You're speculating, some players are just fearless, maybe Hudler is, maybe he isn't, but you can't throw out a blanket statement like without anything behind it. NN gave examples to back up his claim, you give nothing but opinion. And don't throw the common sense thing out there or that you're objective or whatever else, it goes along the same lines of calling people homers. It's not about having common sense, it's about agreeing with you. The only reason it's getting ridiculous for you is because he IS making sense and it's not the sense that you agree with.

Am I in the twilight zone? "Tough guys on teams with enforcers" none of the teams I mentioned have enforcers, none of the teams I mentioned have legit enforcers.

    Official Downey On Waivers

Heh, I guess the term enforcer has gotten watered down a lot if Jed Ortmeyer is considered one. I always associated enforcers as guys people feared on the ice like Laraque and McGrattan, I don't think anyone fears Nicklas Wallin or Tim Gleason. I'm not arguing whether or not these teams fight, I'm arguing semantics.

And none are enforcers, don't beat around the bush just say it, none of the teams I mentioned have enforcers, they have players who will fight. McGrattan is an enforcer, Parros is an enforcer, Boogaard is an enforcer, Sheldon Souray is an offensive defensemen who fights on certain occasions.

You claimed no one would pick up Downey because every team has an enforcer, I'm not concerned about their team toughness. Carolina, Nashville, Vancouver, even Edmonton don't have enforcers in the sense that you guys clamor about. They have guys who fight, no enforcers. Tootoo can play the game, so he plays and he fights, Weber is one of the best young defensemen in the game and the same goes with Bieska.

Who is Carolina's enforcer? How about Nashville? Vancouver? Those teams have legitimate enforcers who regularly play? Who replaced Laraque for Edmonton?

    Official Downey On Waivers

You all need to relax http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/2007/10...rs-waivers.html Aaron Downey cleared waivers, Saturday. The forward was exposed to waivers to give the team the ability to make roster moves quickly if needed. Downey will stay with the Wings (he practiced today in Chicago) and is available to play and on the roster. The waivers more or less make him pre-approved to be moved if necessary in the next 30 days or 10 games. The Red Wings play five games in the next nine days. Two days must pass for a player to clear waivers, so there was the possibility that an injury could have caused problems. If a goalie had gotten hurt, there wouldn't have been time for a player to clear waivers and be sent down to make room for another player to come to Detroit. The Red Wings are at the roster maximum of 23 players. As usual, Downey was the ultimate teammate when asked about being put on waivers ... "I've been on waivers before, hoping someone would pick me up. This time, I was hoping someone wouldn't. Such a great group of guys here. I love being a Red Wings. "I've been living in the moment for 13 years now. The game's not new to me, the role I play. When I first started (in the East Coast league), I was on 24-hour contracts. I'll just take this day and enjoy it, be thankful that I've got a job. "The Lord willing, they'll keep me here all year." Coach Mike Babcock ... "We want him to be a part of our organization. "You have to be able to replace people. If you have an injury … we just felt we had to do this."

I don't think any of us actually understands waivers, it's not like he's going to be playing in Grand Rapids, he'll be on the Red Wings as long as no one claims him which they won't. Downey knew the situation before he signed, so don't throw the "class" card around, he knew this would happen and he accepted it since he signed his name.

    Melrose: "Detroit looked super"

Oh of course, the only articles deemed as "good" or "great" are the ones that praise the Wings, the ones that are "horrible" and "lacking hockey knowledge" are the ones that put them down in some way.

    Melrose: "Detroit looked super"

Oh please BRTD, 2 years ago we had a thread titled along the lines of "Barry Melrose __ is the best player in the world" the dude changes his mind every period, every shot, every save. If it were anyone else I'd be right there with you, but Melrose has no credibility with this stuff.

If George Parros could play hockey like Joey Kocur, he'd play every night, but George Parros isn't Joey Kocur.

    Hockeytown is DEAD

No kidding, the same people who complain about the Joe not filling up are the same people who never go to games. It's like complaining that George Bush is President, but not going to vote for another cadidate, it's hypocritical.

Which important game did George Parros play in, make an impact and influenced the outcome of the game? Did Brian McGrattan play in the finals or any game prior when anything was on the line and he wasn't in by default? Guys like Parros and McGrattan have their roles, but it isn't to play in important games.

The only thing I'm surprised about is that people are surprised that people get excited for fights. Just because I don't think fighting is a necessity doesn't mean I don't believe it has a place, that is has some importance and that fans love it.

    Fighting Haters

Are there really any anti-fighting people on this board? From my vantage point there's 2 groups, 1 that thinks fighting is essential to having a successful hockey team and the other that feels that hockey is not essential to having a successful hockey team, I've yet to see actually anti-fighting posts. Not to mention this thread is basically trolling, baiting people into a flame war. Tread carefully.
