The Penguins will in all likely hood draft a defensemen.

Draper has been fantastic this season defensivly, our best penalty killer and our best shutdown foward. He has 6 pts in his last 9 games. Maltby hasn't done anything, but he's still just as good defensivly, he just isn't putting in those points that he usually does. Homer and Samuelsson have been great, but they don't have the same job as Draper or Maltby. I'd be surprised if Maltby got re-signed next season for over 1m, if at all.

No it isn't, all of the reasons you listed after posting this is why. Roethlisberger was a rookie on a team with a run first mentality, they had the O-Line, they had the running game, they just needed a QB to step in and not making any mistakes for the 18-20 times he threw the ball a game. Harrington wouldn't be considered a bust if he were in a system like that, not saying he would've had the success like Ben has had, but he wouldn't have been boo'd out of town either.

Roethlisberger would've been a bust on the Lions as well, guaranteed.

I really like this signing, McCown has had some monster games for an awful Arizona team. If he gets some chemistry with our WR's he could be a 300 yard a game guy.

Most of Ovechkins assists come as a result of a rebound. Ovechkin is not the playmaker that Crosby is.

Some people honestly feel that a trade can be done just because it makes sense on paper. Lang for Souray makes sense, they need another center, but will Montreal do it? Probably not, there's tons of variables that we, the fans, do not know about. Not every player is available, not every player wants to come to Detroit. And even if GM's say their players are available, its not a given they'll be moved. Saying why didn't Holland get Witt 2 months ago is moot, if Holland could've tossed a 2nd rounder to Washington 2 months ago and landed Witt he would've gotten him. Washington isn't stupid, they knew they'd get a bigger return at the deadline, they weren't pressured to move him, he wasn't being disruptive or anything. If there wasn't a salary cap, the Wings would have Witt and whoever else they wanted right about now.

Carolina's defense is depleated as is, and they're going to be front runners for the cup. No reason for them to trade an experienced veteren like Ward.

I would take Jamie Rivers long before Cory Cross. I can't possibly fathom what Holland was thinking today. I really can't. Same here!!! That's like saying, which way would you rather die, drowning or in a fire?

Do you know for sure? Did those teams want to trade with Detroit? Did the player want to go to Detroit? Did they contact Ken Holland? Did Ken Holland know they were available? They weren't going to get rid of Woolley or Lebda, so we weren't getting a SIXTH defensemen.

If Jamie Rivers hardly ever played, why do you think Cross will? Lebda and Woolley fill out the 6-7th defensemen, Rivers only played in bizaree circumstances. Are you guys really freaking out over an EIGTH defensemen?

Because Todd Simpson is f**king garbage, he was the reason why Chicago had so many 5 on 3 penalties. The only reason to get Todd Simpson is to help boost the penalty killing % because we'd have an extra 3-4 night on DUMB PENALTIES. I don't even think Cross is good, I don't even care about him, I didn't even want Holland to do a move at all. But Todd Simpson is garbage, he doesn't replace anyone, he's physical, he fights and he would cost us goals and get penalties in crucial situations. Rivers or Cory Cross? Who cares, neither are playing and here's one more thing. WE WERE NEVER GETTING A DEFENSEMEN TO PUT INTO THE TOP 6.

He's a top 4 defensemen, but he's vastly overrated, Nashville grossly overpaid for him, he's not a shutdown defensemen. He'll help solidify their pairings, but he's not the game breaker defensemen that'll give us fits.
