  1. That's a surprise..................................................................Babs should still put ZDH back together and have Flip center Hossa.

Sorry Flip lovers, but seeing that made me extremely happy, it is physical evidence that Flip has absolutely no right to be centering Hossa, so you can stop that whole charade. Even though the idea was ridiculous to begin with.

Yeah a 25 second shift is all the evidence we need!

  2. Mick said Hossa had 7 shots this game...

He actually had some good plays in the offensive zone when the game got into it. But other than that, Hossa is his meal ticket as of now.

Kopecky looked pretty good today and had some nice chances. But some people are going to see what they want to see no matter what happens.

  3. So tell me, why aren't you worried, the team has looked like something the cat dragged in last couple of games.. when is the improvement gonna take place?

Ever heard of the term "mid-season" form? Now I know english isn't your first language but the word mid is short for middle. It's going to take more than 1 game for the Wings to be firing on all cylinders.

  4. Because this is a message board where people constantly debate things over and over. This isn't like some contest where one party wins and the game is over. There are no winners or losers here, we're just arguing.

It's either this or arguments about whether Sammy really sucks or not. Just pick your poison.

That's not really true, there's only losers in debates like this and I'm standing on the top of the mountain.

    - Kenny mentions flexibility a lot and having to trade a defensemen in a matter of weeks.

    - Addresses the kids who got moved down to GR and Aaron Downey's status.

    - Holland said he told Darren Helm that the Wings have big plans for him and that he'll have a long career with the Wings. Believes that it's only worthwhile to have Helm up if he's one of the top 12 forwards.

Lots more stuff too. Give it a listen.

  6. Im sorry but Zetterberg should remain on the top line PP line......

You cant put Zjesus on the second line... just crap

The Wings don't have a 1st line and a 2nd line they have two 1st lines. They also don't have a 1st unit and a 2nd unit, they have two 1st units.

  7. They survived by enduring the indignities their star players suffered. Whether one believes this impacted their confidence and ability to forge bonds as a team to overcome adversity in the ensuing postseason is where I'm guessing some of us part ways.

It's not that some people part ways, it's that the debate becomes frivolous since it's impossible to determine if that was the case or not. It's a fantastic debate to get your post count up since there's no real facts or evidence to prove or disprove it.

  8. Most teams have a tough guy or two so it's not like Downey is a sure fire thing to be claimed off waivers.

Yes, I'm annoyed by this move. I'm not going to argue with anyone here about it anymore, though. If you don't think having Downey benefited the team during the 82 game grind last year, okay. I disagree.

There's zero chance Downey gets claimed, there's better enforcers that got waived despite Downey's claim that he's a top 5 enforcer in the game. It's fine to be annoyed by the move but I know you're smart enough, BlueMonk, to realize that just because player A isn't on the roster to start the season doesn't mean player A won't be there at some point. This had more to do with cap issues and the "problem" of having too many good players and not enough roster slots. For some reason people see a player getting waived and they view it as a death sentence and he's gone forever. Downey knew the deal and everyone else should've as well when he signed a two-way deal.

It's either start trading or losing players now or KEEP EVERYONE and have some NHL players start in the minors. Big friggin' deal.

  9. Mike Babcock raved about Leino's skill, and there's no question he'll be with the Wings sooner or later this season.

"This is the best player I’ve been involved in sending to the minors, I can tell you that," Babcock said. "He’s got a nose for the net, goes to the net, dominant on the cycle, makes great passes. He’s a Red Wings type player. Leino, I think he's going to be a scoring machine."

  10. So with Helm in the AHL, downey on the waiver-wire, D-mac on the IR; what line does Leino play on? I'm hoping 3rd line if Homer isn't off opening day roster with an injury, but if homer is injured I wouldn't mind seeing him on the top line =)

Datsyuk's line if Holmstrom isn't in, but there's no way Homer won't play.

He'll stay the 13th forward and get spot duty.

  11. Well what do you expect then? None of the other guys are playing. And sorry it says "it appears Leino has made it" but thats a clear sign that he did make it

It says to me that if Holmstrom is injured Leino will be the one to take his place. It may appear that way but it's better to err on the side of caution until official announcements are made.

  12. Even though that best defenceman didn't even play half the playoff games last year? Or even though he will be gone next year and Quincey could well have developed into a very solid NHL defenceman?

Quincey wouldn't be here next year anyway.

Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Stuart, Lebda, Lilja, Meech, Ericsson. Where does Quincey fit in? They'll all be under contract.

  13. Yeah, but those components are going to more that likely be in Grand Rapids, not Detroit.

To start the season. We all need to get out of this habit of thinking that who's in on October 9th is going to stay the same all season. While they may not make the team initially, Holland and Babcock didn't bring Downey and especially McCarty back to not get them into games this year. You're fooling yourself if you think they won't get at least half the season (possibly combined) in the lineup or exactly how many games Downey had last year.

  14. Not sure I understand. Downey and McCarty are on two way contracts. It doesnt make sense to be on a two way contract and have to clear waivers.

    CBA Article 50.9(g)

of the contract's remaining amounts to be paid, with the balance to

be paid by and charged to the waiving NHL Club (both amounts to

be counted against each Club's Upper Limit, Actual Club Salary

and Averaged Club Salary, and counted against the Players'

    Share); and

(iii) For a Player on an AHL contract with a Minor League Salary and

compensation that could be earned in excess of the applicable

amount set forth above in this Section 50.9(g), who signs an NHL

Club, the Player must first clear the new Re-EntryWaiver

procedure, pursuant to which the Player can be claimed by another

unaffiliated NHL team for fifty (50) percent of the SPC's

remaining amounts to be paid, with the balance to be paid by and

prior two (2) seasons or more than 40 NHL games on NHL roster in the

immediately prior season; and (ii) for defensemen and forwards, Players who have:

    (A) played in 320 or more professional games in North America (NHL, AHL and
