Infamous Holmstrom quote from last year
redwingschick33 replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
That cracked me up. Had I been able to rewind and watch it again, I definitely would have. -
It should be fun!

Hey guys, I'm a PR intern with the Wings and one of my jobs is to send out all the pocket schedules. We got about 100 pocket schedules this week and they were already sent out. We should be getting the rest of them within a week or two. If you send a letter to the Public Relations department with a letter asking for a pocket schedule. they'll mail it out to you no matter where you live. Just make sure you include your address (and please write clearly!). And give it a week or maybe even two for you to get a response since the schedules are not in yet, but they should be soon. Hope that helps, Christy

I got my email yesterday and my family made a deposit. They wouldn't tell us what was available before we made a $500 deposit. We made it 24 hours ago and still haven't heard back from the Wings yet. Since I will be a Wings' PR intern this season, I won't be able to use the tickets so my parents are only going to pay for them if it's a seat in the lower portion of the upper bowl closer to center ice. Otherwise, they're going to ask for the deposit to be refunded.

The contest winners were randomly selected this evening and you can read more about the process here. One of the two winners was an LGW member! I want to wish a congrats to superstarsingh for winning the numbered Nineteen book that was sold the night of the ceremony. Thanks to all of you who entered!

Hi guys, My name is Christy Hammond and I'm the blogger behind Behind the Jersey. Anyways, I just finished making an Yzerman fan site with hundreds of photos, articles, audio, and video clips. You can check out Behind the Jersey: No. 19 at Yzerman.net or BTJ19.com. The best part is that I am holding a contest as well. Two randomly selected winners will win one of two books. One winner will win the book, Nineteen: A Salute to Steve Yzerman. This book is one of the numbered ones sold at the Joe on the day of the ceremony. The other winner will win the Detroit Free Press book, The Captain. Visit my new Yzerman fan website to enter the contest today! Thanks, Christy P.S. Matt, I hope you don't mind that I plugged this website on LGW.

According to a source via Globe and Mail, Scotty Bowman has been offered the position of president with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bowman had already turned down two previous offers with the Leafs earlier this year. If he says yes, it'd be great for Toronto and a chance for the team to turn around starting with the front office. While he is only an advisor for the Wings right now, it would suck losing him. Mike Babcock called Bowman once a week during the season to pick his brain and it's been nice having Bowman around. Plus, he's 73 so I'm hoping he sticks with the advising role and turns down the Leafs' offer.

All I said in the title is that he may take the job, which is true. I never said he intended or has decided. I definitely hope he turns it down, but you never know.

Personally, I really enjoyed The Captain and Nineteen. Yzerman by Doug Hunter wasn't bad, but he isn't always factually correct. He did interview friends of Yzerman so those quotes were interesting. But like someone else said, the author did not interview Yzerman.

Thanks guys- I'm glad you liked it. I'm obviously a big fan and hope I did right by Yzerman with my website. If any of you have photos of Yzerman that you've taken or know of ones that are not on the website already, let me know and I'll be happy to credit you! Christy

As soon as the winners are selected, all the emails but their two will be deleted from my inbox. Once the books are sent to the proper winners, I will then delete their emails. I am not writing down any addresses or anything like that. I'm a full time college student (who is even taking summer classes) and I don't have time to do anything with them other than delete the emails. If you would feel better, you can just send me an email with your name and email address and if you win, I'll ask for further information so I can mail you your prize!

Thanks! I forgot to add that the deadline for the contest is August 6th (next Monday).

I figured that with Columbus being so close I could drive down there with a friend. We had a good time and the Columbus fans are good hockey fans (and that kills me to say since I go to U of M).

I was there at the draft and they did not boo Yzerman. The crowd definitely booed Wings management as they were making their way to the stage and even started loudly chanting "Red Wings Suck." However when Yzerman got to the podium, the crowd applauded Yzerman (but no standing ovation or anything like what Gretzky received).

What Current NHLers Were Influenced by Yzerman?
redwingschick33 replied to BeeRYCE's topic in General
I can't tell you what other NHLers were inspired by Yzerman, but I compiled a list of all the prospects and their quotes in the 2007 NHL Draft media guide at my blog: http://www.behindthejersey.com/2007/06/10/...many-prospects/ -
It's nice to finally put a face to your name after all your hard work with the Bernie t-shirts! And how did this thread become all piratey (if that's even a word)?

You can never go wrong with a cute Michigan fan who loves hockey. Go Blue! It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine! I can't wait for the weekend of training camp. I'm hoping to go to the UM football game vs. Notre Dame on Saturday then drive up to Traverse City for the training camp! What a great weekend!

I worked for the Plymouth Whalers this past season as a game night intern. Hockey players are sexy. We had a end of the season dinner celebrating our OHL Championship and they were all in suits. For once, their hair wasn't soaking wet from the showers and it was very enjoyable to just sit back and observe. haha.
-
Thanks guys! You all know how to make a girl have a better day! OsGOD- Yep, that avatar does include me and you were definitely right! But you only saw me once at the Whalers' game so I wouldn't feel too bad about that! haha.

^ Me during warmups before a game in November. ^ I'm the girl closest to Nick Lidstrom. I happened to be sitting there right after he scored Goal #200 and made the cover of the Detroit News sports section!

I've been told from an extremely reliable source that Yzerman once turned down a deal where he'd make $100,000 for two hours of autographs because he'd rather spend that time with his family and it wasn't worth it to him. Yzerman is a private guy and he's worth so much money that he doesn't even find it worthwhile to spend two hours signing autographs for $100,000.

You know you're a Detroit Red Wings fan if...
redwingschick33 replied to shutTHEduckUP's topic in General
...you come back home from college and hang out with some friends you haven't seen since christmas. what do they say to you first? "how are your wings doing?" ...friends and family know to not talk to you after a loss in an important game. ...your orthopedic surgeon in Cincinnati, OH (i live in michigan) knows you as the red wings fan. ...as a college student, i spend more money on red wings stuff (ie. tickets, clothes, memorabilia) than i do anything other than gas and food. -
Happy Birthday Drapes!!!

I love that it appears in all these different arenas. It definitely did give me a good laugh after being totally bummed out about the Wings loss...

I like that Kronner is getting healthy. While I don't think rushing him back to play in the SCF after missing so much time is a good idea, but what if someone else gets injured on the Wings blueline? It'd just be nice to have him there in case something happens...
