Shea Weber fined for Zetterberg "headslam"
pondrocket replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
yeah, the league looking out. How did that work out? In the NHL for decades, teams had a component to address players that take liberties with their premium players. Most teams still do. The Wings used to be able to make teams pay for the physical play by putting pucks in the net on the pp. While they did have some pp goals in game one they are not even close to being productive enough on the pp to make that a deterrent. Now teams can take liberties with the Wings top players (How many years have we seen Hank get cross checked in the lower back? Too many!)with minimized risk of getting scored on during the ensuing pp. -

I was referring to teammates sticking up for each other. -

I don't understand how people are angrier at Webber then they are at the Red Wings lack of response. I sure am glad I got to watch hockey when it was good! Get some of the classics kids, or take up Lacrosse. -

Completely agree! There Hank knelt, collecting himself, ALONE! Nobody around, nobody addressing this. Again you are right. This is a Holland team. Jimmmy D needs to address this. This is absolute BS! The wings can't impact the league, they can't control what the Preds do, but they sure can control what they do. They did NOTHING. They should all be embarrassed! I am for them. This is Detroit, & this is hockey. Lift up your skirt Holland! -
For the first time is the last 10 or 12 years I am beginning to feel that it isn't. Yep, it's an original six team. Yep, they ice a team capable of getting to the playoffs. Yep, the market loves hockey. Their puck possession style is still attractive to skilled players. If I am a smalish skilled guy am I safe there. How much more abuse do I have to suck up in Detroit then I would in other markets with a more balanced skill / and protection built team? I believe it is still strong, but not like it was even a couple years ago.

I get what you are saying but to me it has already been erased. We can't afford to loose him. Unfortunately where will it come from?? Nowhere. That's not how the team is built. I would prefer to struggle with Yzerman re-building the team then struggle KNOWING that Kenny isn't going to do what we need. How long is Yzerman's contract? This is not about the Wings going home early again, this is about not appreciating the same kind of team Kenny does. -

I agree, we don't. That is part of why the wings are so banged up right now. They play hard all year. They take the hits & they deliver a few. They simply are not big enough people to dish what they dish & take what they take. This is a Kenny's team. Kenny has jumped the shark! Come on Jimmy D. We need you right now to salvage the 2012 / 2013 season. Kenny is good, but fixing what we need fixed is not his strength. -

And there Hank knelt to collect himself. Alone! This is a Kenny team. Sorry it is hockey. Webber should have been picking himself up off the ice. We don't have that dimension. That's part of why my favorite team will be golfing in 5. -
Not if it is up to Holland. Jimmy D is going to have to get involved if this is going to get fixed! It's not 1997 and the Left Wing Lock is not getting established. The league has changed. The wings have something that works "to a point". I am bored, and so are many. Not what you need when you are getting ready to announce a new arena (5 - 6 months out)!

I chalk it up (this year) to an unhealthy team. Yes they broke the home record. The road record is poor. The last 21 games the wings are DEAD LAST on the pp. In 08 we were deeper in goal, deeper on def (a little) and deeper up front & had a little more sand paper. I absolutely hope for the best, I absolutely love watching the games & I absolutely feel Kenny missed an opportunity to improve. The Wings are as tough as anybody, but this year the body has not survived as well. BTW Vancouver is a good sized team. Watch out for the Preds. Alexander Radulov is on the way back.

It's still a great season, with some really skilled players & an amazing year with number 5! There won't be any meaningful changes until the off season. They get it right far more then they get it wrong. How great is it to have such a decline is important areas and still have a very competitive team. Enjoy what's left.
-
Also, over the last 21 games we are dead last in the league in pp. It's not about bashing the wings. It's about appreciating what is real (there is still plenty to appreciate) and wait for the next few adjustments to be made. In Jimmy D I trust!
-
That was a more skilled team & the rest of the western teams had not caught up to the new financial requirements & the teams in the west were chasing a finesse style of play. The western teams are bigger now, we are less skilled & there is far more parody in the west. Today, the sharks are 9 points above 500 & are not in the play offs. It's not 08.
-
We had half a million available to sculpt an adjustment. Sorry, I don't buy that they couldn't find a fit. They simply didn't get on it early enough and or weren't creative enough. Weather they admit it or not they did not do what they needed to do. I am confident that the real architect Jimmy D will fix it. With or without Kenny.
-
This is what happens when a team is small and plays big. They get hurt and can't play to their potential. This is not a player integrity issue, this is not a coaching issue. This is a GM issue. Kenny has been good, but he has been very lucky too. Kenny has jumped the shark!
-
Specifically Detroit will loose because they will play very hard during the regular season, with the regular season rules and be physically beat up to start them. When the playoffs begin the ref's will swallow the whistle (as they ALWAYS DO)Zetta will be cross checked into explaining that he played hurt most of the playoffs. Danny Cleary will give it all he has but will crack a rib falling off his chair trying to stand up to someone, Dats will be slashed & waked by a meaningless player & hurt his wrist (Any of this sound familiar? I believe Mule, Howard, Quincy, Lids and Stuart will have great 6 games, but they are done. It takes more out of them to take the pounding then the bigger clubs. I also be they kill themselves trying to secure home ice throughout, Sorry Vanc., Nashville, (SJ (built for play offs)will show them the way to their T time. Doesn't make me happy. I genuinely appreciate the team. My ***** is with Holland. That said I appreciate the team even Kenny. I am just appreciating the boy scout philosophy less & less each year. Not trying to piss anyone off. Just venting and disappointed. Justified or not it feels like my hockey season is over. Part of what I enjoy is the strategy of building the teams. I hope Kenny can relax tonight, crack open a Zima & watch the bachelor or whatever she likes.......

I don't know who will win, but I know Detroit won't. Let me know when they hit 500 on the road.
-
Nobody is saying the wings are crappy. The frustration is that the competition got a little tougher to play against, we are not doing well on the road & we are beginning to see the impact of injuries. We are not built for playoff hockey & will not survive. Sorry, we didn't improve when we could have.

I think this damn hockey season was going to interfere with golf. Not any more. Round one & off to the cabin. Well now I won't feel guilty when I stop buying that crappy pizza.

Sorry, but like most of the red wings Emmerton does not take anything out of another player that plays against him. It isn't enough to be able to take a hit. -

Quincy is just a make up for resigning Erikson at the number he did. If it weren't for Hanken & the scouting department (that was in place before Holland) we would be like Calgary at best. Maybe -

Get ready for a round one exit. Again! Well, when I consider the officiating problems of the NHL, our typical early round ouster, The salary cap & Kenny's insistence on making the Donny Osmond of Hockey teams, I have seen my last game for the year. Maybe next year??? Have a great summer everybody. I may watch Nashville though. They are going to be fun!!! -

Because, his team has needs, he has the money. We will see. It's 2:39. Won't be long now. Sammy for two 4th rounders. We couldn't have beat that????? -

Kenny is being responsible to returning money to the bottom line. he builds teams that do well in the regular season, sell lots of tickets, even more beer & Red Wing swag. A good playoff team is not always a good regular season team. He knows how to build great reg season teams. He certainly knows more then most, but I am beyond board with the milk toast style of team. I have wasted my last Trade deadline day. Used to be my favorite day of the year. He has the money, he has the need. He is just content. too content.
