I also saw the game tonight. They scored one fluky goal in the first minute of the opening period, and then it was just Marty being Marty (and the Devils being the Devils) from there on out, and made that 1-0 lead stand up for the whole game. Very impressive.

Nick Lidstrom can inspire anyone to do great things.

Right now Canada's got 5 of the top 10 NHL scoring Dmen on their roster, they don't need Green mucking things up.

What Five Current NHL Players Do You Hate the Most?
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I'll go with... 1. Pronger 2. Perry 3. Getzlaf 4. Tootoo 5. Hartnell -
Hey bro, I'm with you. Disappointing in a general sense, awesome in a USA trolls the world sense.
-
Surely the best team in the tournament. Lots of built-in chemistry, tons of talent, and a few guys that can fill roles other than just superstar scorer. It will be very disappointing if they don't medal again.

Every single night every team that can hurt the Wings by winning, does.

The Value of an Enforcer: Brad May/ The Misunderstood Point Sytem
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to a topic in General
May's done a good enough job, I've got no complaints, but consider that May also plays the least of any Wing, against the opposition's least threatening lines (whenever possible), and his +/- is not really anything spectacular one way or the other. Stuart is leading the team in blocked shots and SHTOI/G, and second in hits, so he definitely deserves a nod as one of the Wings' top players this season. Bert and Howard would get my other votes. -
You're dumb and you have an ugly face. Bring it.
-
Like what? Besides rushing all five skaters into the attack and surrendering a breakaway relay on their goalie? Great players give you lots of options; the Wings have a bunch of no-skill jobbers -- they have no options. There's nothing else to do differently because the players don't have the skill to do anything else.

It'd be hard for me to remember all the great goals and plays I've seen in the last decade so I'm gonna go ahead and give them the benefit of the doubt here. Here's one of my favorite plays of the decade that would be unlikely to make a list like this:

12/28 GDT: Red Wings 0 at Blue Jackets 1 (OT)

You mods and your wonderful toys. Another one sniffed out. -
I feel like they've had absolutely no luck, even aside from the injuries; even bad, absolutely overmatched teams score stupid, lucky goals through screens and off accidental deflections. I guess Bert's 2nd goal the other night qualifies, but they've been very few and far between. Oh well. The fact of the matter is they've been successfully hanging around with three 4th lines and one line that MUST score 2-3 goals a game for them to have a chance to win. Getting Hank, Dano, Nik back will be an unbelievable boost.

Would you take Ilya Kovalchuk if Lidstrom retires?
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
And Lidstrom is a very big part of that. A part that will eventually go away and need to be replaced. The offense drying up is partly a function of Lidstrom's struggles as well; if the Wings got a defensemen that could return some potency to the top PP unit they'd be back in business. -

I guess if Bert doesn't score, nobody will. Teams score more goals by complete accident in a game than the Wings have managed in a week. -

I swear I heard that ringing and I was staring right at Mason and he was still hanging a bit out of the crease as the puck was leaving the zone. Maybe it's finally getting to me. -

Wings don't have the puck right now. Things will not go well if they can't play some in the other end... -

He praises everybody constantly, which is his job as a commentator for nationally broadcast games (I switched to Monday Night Football during the intermission and I hear the same thing, slobbering over a QB that has the most interceptions in the NFL ), but he passive-aggressively gets his shots in saying stuff like "subtle interference," which is irritating. -

Well, that's a legit complaint, what I was talking about is when he was moaning about Datsyuk taking too long to get set for a faceoff after an icing. Didn't look like anything out of the ordinary to me. -
