    Tomorrow's Lines

A million years ago Sammy was actually brought in to be a 3rd/4th line grinder/jobber. Then he scored 20 goals. Now he plays the point on the power play. Things got out of hand pretty quickly there.

Rafalski, Draper, Kopecky won't play Sunday

Suddenly, inexplicably, I am awash with disappointment.

Rafalski, Draper, Kopecky won't play Sunday

Abdelkader will be in for Kopecky. Words of wisdom from Babcock:

    5/8 Playoff GDT

Done. Staal with the good bounce, Canes with the W, B's in a hole. EDIT: I stand corrected, that shot went right in.

Epic goal by Samsonov. Mr. Playoff Hero with the assist.

Related: Fedotenko has been pretty good since I called him a good for nothing last week.

And Jussi Jokinen is your Fernando Pisani/Travis Moen of 2009.

    5/8 Playoff GDT

Not that the voters had anything to work with but the regular season, but as long as we're on the topic, let's have a look-see at how our Norris candidates are doing so far in these playoffs: Green: 11GP, 1-7-8 (.73PPG), -2 Chara: 7GP (game in progress tonight), 1-1-2 (.29PPG), -1 Lidstrom: 8GP, 3-6-9 (1.12PPG), +5 Let me be the first to say: dominated.

Mr. Norris with a nice blind pass into the slot while he's dicking around at the goal line.

And does it bother anyone else when he says a shot is "blocked" by the goalie? There's some pretty distinct terminology in play here; a block is by a skater, a save/stop is what a goalie makes.

Rafalski, Draper, Kopecky won't play Sunday

The Wings should just e-mail me with Rafalski's injury. I'm no turncoat, I can keep a secret.

    Getzlaf

No, Getzlaf knocked Flip over, and his momentum kept him sliding in Getzlaf's direction. As Flip was down on all fours trying to get back to his feet, his rear collided with Getzlaf's leg along the boards. Very flukey play.

    Getzlaf

You can see it as part of TSN's video recap (right hand side). Flip and Getzlaf are going into a corner to get the puck, Getzlaf turned and knocked Flip down, and as he was sliding along he ice he pinned Getzlaf's leg to the boards. It looks like a nothing play, but realistically 200 pounds of Flip is coming down on his leg all at once.

    FINALLY! LINE CHANGES!

Extremely worthy of note: Samuelsson was yanked completely from the PP after one shift. The Wings rolled Lidstrom-Ericsson, Kronwall-Stuart. Additionally, the success of Mule-Flip-Hoss made them the second PP unit, which along with the reunited ZDH as unit one, made Hudler the odd man out; he had just one power play shift.

WCSF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Ducks 3

More injury news: TSN speculates in their video recap (right hand side) that Getzlaf only played three minutes in the third because he hurt his leg when he and Flip got tied up late in the second.

A follow up on Kopecky after he got pummeled...
  17. Heroes of Hockeytown

    Too many weapons.

Eh, that's what was being said before Game 1, and four games later it's all knotted up. True, if ZDH starts clicking again and FFH gives an encore, then the Ducks are surely in a whole mess of trouble, but I'll believe it when I see it.

WCSF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Ducks 3

I've flown from one side of this planet to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's some all-powerful Force momentum controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls the Wings' destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

    Detroit Lions 2009 Thread

Peterson-Foote-Sims is a pretty not-terrible linebacking corps, I'll give them that. I hate to do this, because it will bring me nothing but anguish. But I'm allowing myself to feel optimistic about the Lions again.

And getting him off the ice in a critical late game situation, brah. Their #3 Dman for our worst forward? I'll take that trade.

    Don't hassle the Hoss!

Not that I know what was going on inside of his head in any way, but perhaps the subconscious cries of thousands of Detroiters for Arby's threw him off. He had a lot of room to move in, deke, whatever, but he shot if from like 40 feet away.

    The I'm Sorry Thread

Dear Mom, I'm sorry I forgot to take out the trash three weeks ago. Love, Mike

I'm sure some of you have noticed Hiller's leaky five-hole, by the way. That's three goals in four games sliding between the wickets.

WCSF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Ducks 3

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was Red Wings hockey. Until they went into hang-the-f***-on mode late, they were in control all night, finally able to get past that aggressive forechecking and get some speed through the neutral zone. If that's what we have to look forward to in Games 5 and 6, then there's no worries.
  25. Heroes of Hockeytown

    Do you want Rafalski back?

No. We should probably find a way to get Lidstrom out of the series, too. Way I see it, if the Wings can't win a series with both arms tied behind their backs, what good are they?
