Switched over after the Flyers-Pens tilt, 10 minutes in, so if it happened it happened 3 minutes beforehand. Probably just an error.
-
Indeed, no score after one.

Sorry, misunderstood you back there. The Staal thing wasn't even a big deal, just a little shove, even the ref gave him a pat on the butt as he skated off. The whole sequence was a load of nonsense.
-
Around LGW I meant. That Pen went down like he was shot out of a cannon. I've seen that happen to Homer at least twenty billion times and it's not a call. It was cross-checking but it was basically the legal kind, battling in front of the net.

That penalty on Knuble was s***, and the Giroux call is not one you make if it hands out a 5 on 3 in OT. That was just a whole load of silliness, heads would be rolling if that was the Wings getting jobbed.
-
Well, there's your save of the playoffs so far. Carter basically put it in the one spot that Fleury wasn't in but could be, but credit to MAF, that was a hella fast recovery.

To continue off topic, the entire kickass Conan-Colbert-Stewart feud is archived on the three hosts' websites. The conclusion that features the brawl (and dance!) is on Conan's.

WCQF GAME 1 GDT: Blue Jackets 1 at Red Wings 4

EDIT: Confused HoH is dumb and bad. -
I heard this guy has, like, a bunch of even strength points.

It's Bettman's job to worry about that, it's a GM's job to make a winning team anyway he can. Honestly Downey would have probably been in the line up more this year if it wasn't for the salary cap crunch. Kenny wisely didn't risk any players to waivers to bring him up when the team was healthy, and used his injury call ups to take a look at guys like Helm and Leino when the team wasn't. I don't know that you can argue with either of those philosophies. In almost every other season as GM he has had a legit scrapper in the line up on a nightly basis so it's not as if he's completely opposed to the concept.

Literally every coach that has lost to the Wings in the last decade has complained about this.
-
Earlier this season, against Calgary. That's Jim Vandermeer and Franzen.

is J. Ericsson here to stay in the defense?

He seems to be getting an exceptional amount of luck in the goals department, but the main thing is he's not afraid to shoot. Some guys are just more liable to dump it back into a corner than put the puck at the net. -

In my mind I usually think "Hank is on the ice" as opposed to "Pavel is not on the ice," and to that end I don't really know how often this happened. Possible that the power plays occurred during or just after a shift by the first line. -
God, Nabokov is such a choker.
-
They literally did the exact same thing last season. Did Kronwall or anyone else lay anyone out in the '08 regular season? I guess Hasek did. The Wings didn't, then or now, need to lay it all on the line to win a regular season game. The hitting and shot blocking tonight was from another universe, better than 82 games of regular season hockey, and for a reason.

The Red Wings are natural born Liverpoolers. Ozzie first (obviously the game's MVP), then the rest of the gang. I wasn't concerned going in, but the first 10 minutes were obviously not great, but if you can control 50 minutes of a hockey game I won't complain. Stuart had some suspect moments, but overall a good game across the board. Nick was an absolute beast, Nash didn't see any daylight when Nick was guarding him. The great thing about the Wings too is the unbelievable depth; Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't scoring? Here comes Hudler and Filppula (and Sammy! ). Not for lack of trying though, Hossa and Pavel were dynamite, and poor Hossa had a sure goal deflected away. I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't hate on Kopecky for taking a 40 foot wrist shot on a two on one. So far, so good. -

Still feelin' good, feelin' confident, ready for some Red Wings hockey. -
Forget the numbers. The sheer number of crushing, soft goals he gave up at the worst conceivable times are what did that team in.

Maybe it's the arrogant Wings fan in me speaking, but I'm feeling pretty mellow right now, not too worried about the game (don't worry, I'll be singing a different tune if they aren't up by 8 at the end of the first ) or any of that stuff. Sure, C-bus could just as easily sweep us right the f*** out of the playoffs and cruise to the Cup; but here and now, my chi is in balance and all is calm and well in the unvierse. -

Good old fashioned hard-hitting, low scoring playoff hockey game.
