2/2 GDT: Blues 3 at Red Wings 4, (SO)

Eh, you can do worse than the second Hossa goal. The Maltby goal was bad and I don't think anything needs to be said about the other. -

There goes Nik, whiffing completely in the neutral zone and starting an odd man rush the other way. At least he's tryin' to lay someone out. -

Doesn't matter how air tight your D is if you cough up a chance like that. -

Wings have control, but no shots. All along the boards and nothing near the net. -

It's fine, it was only for 30 seconds. Very nice gesture. Had a good shift, too. -
Somehow I managed to forget Hossa.
-
Yeah, Lebda. Great wheels, if only he had other great qualities to match. Outside of that, the Wings have a lot of guys who are good skaters, good team speed, but no one in particular that I'd rate at the top of his class. Datsyuk is pretty fast, and more importantly can hit top speed quickly to bust through the D on the rush, but he's not up there with Ovechkin or Gaborik or Marleau, for example.
-
EDIT: Read things improperly, sometimes I do this.
-
Awww, don't hate. The guy could score, even if he wasn't always all there on the other side of the puck. The only Wings jersey my father ever bought was a Coffey one.
-
Wasn't he a tryout that got cut? Alongside Rem Murray? In favor of one Dan Cleary, if all memories serve.
-
The Moth! He filled in admirably for the Wings during the Legace/Joseph/Hasek catastrophe. I checked, he played a whole two games, and went 1-0-1.
-
Whatever, Bob was a great Red Wing. Most of the time. Sometimes. In the playoffs. His game-tying goal against Calgary and San Jose was the stuff of legends. And no one should ever forget his falling-down deke to Vokoun after brushing off a Nashville defender. I hope he plays again. I will always hold a special place in my heart for everyone's favorite no-good bum, Robert Lang.

Yes, some times that happens. If the winning team has the ball and kneels on it, time will expire, there's no reason to keep the teams from coming onto the field then. I think that's an incredibly specific and insignificant gripe you've got there.
-
God, Murph in '01. Who could forget him taking days to get from the blue line to the face off dot as LA stormed back to beat us. Much love, but egads was he ever done.
-
I'll be holding a candle-light vigil outside of the hospital tomorrow evening if anyone wants to make the trip up with me.
-
What? The first half ended with the most fantastic interception return I've ever seen, and the second half ended with one kneel down and 5 secs left on the fumble. That was an unbelievable game. Riveting to the final second, literally. The Fitzgerald TD and then the Holmes catch were amazing. Behind Alabama-Florida this has got to be the best football game of the year.

Yes, I downloaded the rule book just to be certain and there is an eerily specific exception for linesman to make a call with regards to, "Double-minor penalty where it is apparent that an injury has resulted from the high stick that has gone undetected by the Referees," and "Should a linesman witness a foul (above) committed by an attacking player or goalkeeper (undeteced by the Referee) prior to the attacking team scoring a goal, the Linesman shall report what he witnessed to a Referee, the goal shall be disallowed and the appropriate penalty assessed." So, uh, nice followin' of the rulebook gang. How bizarre.
-
Yeah, I just heard the breakdown on HNIC. Linesman isn't allowed to make the call but he told the referee after the next stoppage (which happened to be a goal...) and they decided to roll with that. That's the first time I've ever heard of that happening and I don't think it sets a very good precedent at all. The referee sees it or he doesn't. If linesman are going to make calls, let them make calls.
