A penalty is definitely not a reviewable play... What's the deal? Surely the referees know that...?

Should the Red Wings Fire Assistant Coach Brad McCrimmon?
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Winged_Wheeler's topic in General
^^^ Behold, thinking critically. -
I'd be a little surprised if the first move that isn't made when the season ends is to bench Kopecky and start Helm on the 4th line, at the very least.
-
Here's the thing about Train. Game in, game out, he's a solid stay at home defenseman who hits and blocks shots. He PKs like a beast and will occasionally drop the gloves to boot. Then, out of nowhere, he makes a mistake so baffling and horrendous you wonder how he could possibly be a regular in the NHL (see: Teemu Selanne). Looking over the whole of his time here in the Winged Wheel, I can't see how anyone could be disappointed in his play.

All this anger and negativity has manifested itself in Yzyman, again! What has science done!
-
The offense that has been cranking out 5000 goals a game has cooled off, is the problem. The same lousy defense and bottom line play has been a thorn in their side since Game 1. As with all slumps, just soldier on. Things have got to get better if they can't get no worse.
-
Well, I guess I'll go against the grain and say I thought they played a decent game, but the biggest problem was they couldn't get a clutch goal when they needed it. Yeah, the typical 4th line/spotty defense was also in force, but even on that third goal Rafalski got his stick on Ovechkin's and didn't let him get much of a shot away, which may have fooled Conklin, but he can't let that kinda shot slide under him regardless.

Goal post and that's all she wrote.
-
They can't take any more guys off the ice!
-
Well, ten billion on three incoming.
-
It would be typical for them to score now and then not be able to nail the game-tying goal, wouldn't it?
-
Well, the slump marches on. Sadface.
-
Sigh, there he goes. Wings need to come through with the big goal.
-
When the pass was made, he had his sort of turned to the camer, I was the 3 as the second number and I thought it was Franzen for a second. Moments later, it was clear it was Draper that had the puck, and I laughed as he shot it along the ice into Theodore's pad. The Wings are coming close. Leino is doing an awesome job.
-
They thought he had two, the Wings lobbied to get him credit for the other one, but it was determined it went in cleanly off Pavel's shot and he didn't touch. Nevertheless, I hear you. The one he did get, Nick spoon-fed to him with a floating wrister and he managed to not f*** it up and get his stick on it.

Good things happen when you draw power plays, get bodies in front of the net, and actually shoot the puck. That's a good goal all around in my book. Pretty much just like the Kozlov goal.
-
While I think Flip deserves some PP time after toughing it out on the third line all year and not getting any PP time whatsoever, the reason he's obviously there is we're short a Hank and a Homer. Kopecky, well, that's a goddamn mystery. Abdelkader and Leino have both been far more impressive than him.
-
Hey, shootin' the puck, good things happenin'.
-
Hudler-Clearly-Abdelkader line looks very good.
-
That was totally interference, he hit the guy 20 feet from the puck and didn't let go.
-
Good start to the second. Datsyuk and Cleary lines played well.
-
Not only our worst overall line, offensively and defensively, but probably the worst defensive pairing of Meech-Kronwall. The very second they got the puck into our zone it was a mad scramble until there was either a whistle or a goal. Draper and Maltby are absolutely incapable of retrieving the puck outside of dumb luck against another teams' big/skilled forwards.
-
Hey, let's put Draper and Maltby out there on shift after a goal, they won't blow it. Oops.
-
HOLY JUMPIN'

I like seeing Abdelkader crashing the net. I don't know about his hands, but so far he's been willing to tough it out along the boards and skate down the goalies throat for a tip.
