Football is dumb.

I actually couldn't be arsed to do that but I certainly do remember our arguments on the topic of all things Bob were the stuff of legends. And whilst the clarity of hindsight has left me with mixed feelings about his time here, I will defend his honor to the grave. But this isn't about Bob, and it's barely about what it was originally about, so I'll say this: If Hudler were not so buried on the depth chart behind such a ludicrous cache of talent in Detroit, I feel like he could very well be putting up Datsyuk level numbers in the NHL. Of course, by this same token, if that handicap wasn't on Pavel, he could very well be putting up Malkin type numbers... But I digress, the little guy (I'm one to talk -- 5'4 and 100lbs ) is good. I do fear that some dips*** ******* GM will try and run up the pricetag on our Jiri if his contract isn't dealt with before free agency begins, and a player of his caliber can be taking in a pretty penny in today's NHL...

Yeah, it's always laughable when people try to pin Osgood's success on good defense. Turn their logic around and the premise seems to be "to be considered a great goaltender you have to play behind a miserable defense." Well it's a team game and you won't win much behind a bad defense. Now that's quite the paradox, isn't it? "To be great you have to not win." It would be interesting to see a list of goalies that did win the Stanley Cup but aren't in the HHOF and make a comparison to see where Ozzie stands on this. But the main point is that I've see Oz play, and I've seen the play of his contemporaries and that's all I really need to make sound judgment.

I was happy to see that farce of an 8-8 team go down. It should be to the NFL's everlasting shame that a 9-7 (or 9-6-1) team will be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl this year. Why even go through the trouble of hosting a season at all when you can lose half your games and still be on the doorstep of a championship... Go Steelers.

Shanny took advantage of the new rules and Datsyuk's emergence in 2006 and put up good numbers... But he was as much of a floater then as he is now. I'm sure his one-timer hasn't lost much, so he can just park himself at the top of the circles on the PP and will probably put up decent numbers (given that he'll be rusty and have only half the season to work with). I don't know the Devils situation from a hole in the ground, but Shanny's an alright guy and of course a wily vet so it's probably a good pick up.

The goal rulings were legit. The puck wasn't over the line the first time and the puck wasn't kicked the second time. -

We should all feel ridiculously lucky. I have not watched many non-Wings game this year (by virtue of having switched cable providers to some stupid bulls*** without VS/CBC, which was recently switched back), and seeing this is making me realize how spoiled I am to watch the Wings play every night. -

Yeah, the Wings will set a mark for futility on 2-on-1s this season. -

All alone 6 feet in front of the net? Better pass that puck, bro. -

Sedin (can't be arsed to guess which one) dropped the ball right there, had a sure goal on his stick and redirected it through the crease. -

Nucks survive the whole four-and-then-five on three, and get burned in the last 5 seconds from a bad bounce off a skate. -

I was extremely confused when a Red Wings game appeared on the TV for a minute there. Well played, CBC. -

I didn't wanna have to deal with the Five-oh if I got pulled over, so I called Bob and he said he'd make a run to the corner store for us. -

Fun game to watch. Miller was outstanding, it's a shame his team didn't do a better job for him. But the Wings are on one of their rolls and just won't be denied. Even as the third was winding down and the game was tied, it just felt like it was inevitable, that one of those pucks was going in. Contrast that to how we felt about the Wings two and three years ago in close games... that sense that if the goalie was hot they'd eventually get beat... But this team just oozes confidence. Never stop coming, never quit playing their game. Great stuff.
