Obligatory response to a Dandenault thread - if anyone has a video of this, you have my eternal gratitude. Pretty sure it was Game 5 of the 2004 WCFs. Here comes some Predators jackass skating up to the Wings bench. Was Dandy going to sit there and let him skate by before hopping on the ice to take his shift? Hell no! He reached out there and got him some action. Nearly tore the guy's head off with one fell swoop. Always laugh thinking about it. How on Earth did he avoid being penalized for that play?

I think we all know what the answer to that question is. Go get 'em, Boberino.

I think a lot of those were lame shootout ties, but certainly the addition of Kariya and the maturation of their youth could make for a good season series. I agree losing Markov hurts but I was never very impressed with Mathieu's so-called toughness anyways. He liked to push and shove and throw out the occasional big hit (often risking his defensive assignment...) but he wasn't exactly a tower of power; his impact on the power play was ten fold any sort of "toughness" he brought to the ice. Hoping that Kronwall can stay healthy enough to participate this season would be good enough for me to fill the void, but that's looking to be a trickier situation every season... Lang and Bert for Drake and Grigorenko... fair trade to me. Bert was a beast but Lang never did s***, so you can go ahead and drop that angle right now. Drake can still lay on a hit and Grigs is a bullish fella. We still have guys like Dano and Franzen who are just now starting to play their A game and hit some people. Far from the biggest and strongest, sure. And I feel we may have lost a small bit of toughness but the impact of it is something that's being overblown. The Sharks certainly didn't lose to Wings because of toughness, and the Wings didn't to the Ducks either.

I am here to remember one who has served the Red Wings. I salute you, Josh Langfeld of the Nashville Predators. Go now with strength and honor!

Aye. The fight was exciting to see and a breath of fresh air, but that's not the sole reason (or main reason) people jumped on Lilja's bandwagon. Even when Shanny had the occasional scrap in his last few years it didn't blind people from the fact that he'd become a floater and a hack, and there's certainly no love lost for Darryl Bootland even though he'd drop the gloves any time.

My worldview allows for equal enjoyment of both sicks dekes and monster haymakers.

How well my comfort is revived by seeing your intelligent posting again, Heaton. Our D is solid. LGW culture practically parodies itself with its lust for size and grit, as ever.
