GAME 1 (5/11) GDT: Ducks @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to aflac9262's topic in General
Thanks, but you guys give me too much credit most of the time. In this case, Flip nailed it. The song in question. So as no one questions my taste in music, I will have you all know that the only time I've ever listened to this song is when it has been featured on my many viewings of the Blues Brothers. -

As always, aflac, you are a master at your craft. I suspect that the Wings will actually be the ones running around and weathering storms etc. in the early going. We can argue rest vs. rust all day long, but in the end they've still had a lot of time to get their jump back. BiggerFasterYounger decides nothing, but I think it'll get us running around early like we were often against San Jose. We'll tighten it down and hopefully start to control the play later on. I'm sensing some Datsyukian domination in the works. Prescience, or just an educated guess? Stay tuned to find out. Go Wings! -
I'm pretty sure NHL teams can carry any size roster once the playoffs begin; if necessary more Griffins could be moved on and off at the Wings' leisure.
-
Well, on the one hand you've got Gretzky and Dionne... on the other you have Paul and Teemu. Tough choice!
-
An expert rebuttal from motorcitykid! He didn't even need to use words or even letters. Seriously, since when do team names have anything to do with the sport? Unless you're the Cityville Ice Warriors or something you're gonna have a tough time relating your team name to the game in hockey.

No predictions, should be some outstanding hockey though. I like Buffalo alot, I was really disappointed that they weren't able to make it to the Finals last year, but here's why I hope the Sens win: 1.) So they can shake that perennial underachiever label ("Wings of the East," if you will). We know all about it, and it's no fun. 2.) Selfish reason comin' up: Sens give Wings home ice in a potential SCF match up, Sabres do not.

hay do u guyz no if there is a number lower then zero ??? wings in that ololol

I feel like I say this a lot, but I doubt that the Anaheim Ducks, the hockey team, are particularly overconfident. What children say on the Internet, or talking heads write in the media, really doesn't have any bearing on how their team will view us.
-
And how about Lou? Haven't heard a word out of him in a couple weeks. It's OK to come back and love your team, man! I'll tell you what, I'm just happy that the Wings are in the conference finals, but I know they sure aren't. They'll give it 100% against another big, bad team. And you never know what can happen when they do.

I believe a round of "Count the Rings" is in order. New Jersey - 1 Tampa Bay - 1 Carolina - 1 They may have been good, bu they aren't the best.
-
No kidding... Lindros hasn't been relevant in, what, five years? Almost 50 games was an accomplishment for the guy this season.

A little late, but the topic returns. This series, I think, is a tough one to choose a single guy. The contributions were spread out pretty evenly amongst the team. I guess the stock answer of Lidstrom isn't a bad choice; he was his usual stellar self: defending, scoring, tending goal. Hasek made a couple gaffes, but his close-out, shut-the-door, this-game-is-f***in-over ability can't be ignored. He had a great series. Pavel, well, he scored two of the biggest goals of the playoffs and played sound offensive and defensive hockey throughout. He's one of the best friggin' pick pockets I've ever seen, and the guy he's forechecking can never be sure he's gotten away from Pavel with the puck secure on his stick. Homer, well, the Wings never lost once he returned to the line up. He scored big points and got under the Sharks' skin. I'll never forget him sticking up for Hank and dropping Rivet. I don't know that you can define a series MVP by a single play, a solitary moment in time, but if you can, Bob gets the nod. As I choose to define MVP by consistency and excellence throughout, as opposed to making one big play, even a series-saver: Bob, you get nothing! Seriously, this is tough. Make your case, lemme see what you think.

What's with the Boothiness here. That's two, anyways, which implies that Booth carries some significance.

Why no NBC broadcasts this weekend?

Is there a more mellow or understanding member of this universe than SWF? Serious question! -

Yeah, I think I just wiped out a species. Like, I just went into the living room and had to toss a pair of dog corpses. I'm not sure how I feel about extinction? Bad, I guess. But I did really find that animal annoying.- 477 replies

Nick was at the end of a shift, actually. Hasek had a few options on where to go with the puck and he misplayed it as badly as he could. The onus is definitely on the goalie to make the right play.
-
f***, Heaton just went right on outside the box and started thinking. Well played, indeed.
-
Yeah, I saw that, it's bulls***. I'd like to apologize to the folks I assured a month ago that all of the games from the conference finals on out would be on CBC; I was unable to foresee the NHL's ******* treachery against its own fanbase, and certainly not in this manner. Sorry, guys. As always: I'd hate hockey if I didn't love it.

I count five... myself, tunbo, Matt, Sting 11, someone else (can't remember the name) had a light gun as their AV. I seriously thought I was being all super original, too. Now I feel like such a chump. EDIT: Mystery solved: wingsin4 with the light gun.- 477 replies

This is... this is such a great thread. I'm so glad we're all here now... posting in this great thread.
-
In his defense, one of those was forced by Cheli's defensive-zone turnover. The same Chelios I said was flawless in another thread, so scratch that one off and chuck an "almost" in front...
-
Chelios has been friggin' outstanding. Injuries forced him up to 26 minutes for Game 6, and how did he respond? FLAWLESS defense, 2 assists, +2. The man is a beast, and I have nothing but confidence in his ability at this point in the season.
