One more funny photo for the night... The Pain Train, having lived up to his moniker, looks exhausted. Markov ponders a manicure.
-
Hindsight is 20/20 but... this is a comical pre-game comment from Jim Playfair regarding Homer: "He won't be a problem," coach Jim Playfair insisted, already sounding annoyed. "He's a competitive player that goes hard to the net. But with the new rules you're not allowed to go hard to the net. So the referees can take care of him. And our defensemen can take care of him." ...One assist and one perfect screen later, who's taking care of who?

All you need is love *bum bah dah duh dum* all you need is love, love... love is all you need.

Word. Did they forget all about Forsberg's playoff heroics after missing the entire season in '02? If a player is of great ability, he can be right back in it in no time. Hank is and was.
-
No. And you'd be silly to try and draw a correlation anyhow. I could just as easily point out the Wings won their first playoff game in '98 and went on to win the Cup. By all means, me too. They took a TON of penalties in the third with their child-like tantrums. The only reason the Wings didn't run up the score is because they honestly didn't care. They were content to skate out the rest of the game.
-
The calls were pretty even through 40, when the game was still competitive, 6-5 in favor of Detroit. Calgary got called a ton of times in third when the game was out of reach and it was time to goon it up. That hit wouldn't have awoken him from an afternoon nap. His teammates reacted, as they should, but their reaction was way over the top. Yes, 3-2 (2OT).

It's only a two horse race, if you ask me. Flip isn't even going to be considered. He had a monster game, and was far and away our top guy in the first. I reaaaaaaally hope Mike does the right thing and benches Sammy but my gut tells me (with great dread and trepidation) that Rex will be unceremoniously shafted.
-
I have done so. Good stuff, Arice! Hank, being celebrated as he should.
-
For you, sir, I award many Internets. Very clever.

Should we build our own "Legion of Doom" ?
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Henkka's topic in General
Love Bob and 'Stein, but I think Big E and Leclair were just a liiiittle more talented. And no. Calder is a fixture of our second line, and rightfully so. -
Shut down the thread. Our victory is now complete.
-
The best part was watching the little guys like Pavel, Hank, Flip, and Rex standing up Flames coming in to rough them up. The Wings, from Lang to Lilja, took NO s*** tonight.
-
EDIT: Undone by norrisnick...
-
He'll have a tough time manning the point from the bench, if all goes well... One of Lidstrom or Schneider will always be manning one point on the PP... just sub Lebda in the other spot. Not bad.
-
You and me both. Back on the topic of the game for a moment... This was definitely one team at their best and another at their worst tonight. The Wings caught some good bounces, to boot. It's also true that they absolutely kicked ass and made it look easy, but the Flames will be back and better than ever for Game 2. With that said: 2-0, I'm looking at you! Go Wings!
-
What are the prices of Pistons tickets? I get what you mean, though. Hopefully it's a wake up call to the Wings orginization that they need to be a bit more fan-friendly. Then again, 19,000 at $100 is better than 20,000 at $50.
-
A ton. Aren't tickets like $100? They forced season ticket holders to purchase whole rounds all the way up to the Stanley Cup Finals. That's thousands of dollars on their credit cards.
-
One assist, definitely didn't hurt us out there. Hustled a bit and threw a nice check. I'll take it.
-
Their loss.
-
They get it from their captain. Biggest crybaby in hockey.
-
Cleary and Maltby had great games. Sammy is a goner.
-
Flames = sore loser hockey. But anydangway: WINGS RULE THE UNIVERSE! Total domination. Great win. Superlative victory. Hell yes! 1-0
-
Is there a bigger sore loser in hockey than Iginla?
-
Flames are done today... Everything is going the Wings way. It won't always be this easy, but let's enjoy it while we're kickin' ass!

The rout is on.
