The possibility of signing Kaberle is so loathed I think he might have transitioned to underrated. In any event I have no desire to see him come here. I hope there's a trade in the works, although there are few Wings I'd want to be parted with.

Wings sign D Mike Commodore to 1-year, $1m contract
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Tim.D's topic in General
I guess as long as he and Babcock can get along, whatever. Still waitin' for a real move. -
Derek Meech signs 1-year contract with Winnipeg
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to stevkrause's topic in General
Just this morning they let me know you were gone, Derek the plans they made put an end to you. -
I thought Campbell's contract sucked, but he was a better player than the amalgamation of bottom six forwards and third pairing defensemen they've signed with the open space.

Just trying to get to the cap floor. Having a good team is a distant second for Florida's ownership, I reckon.
-
Then I authorize you to panic, for it will be the beginning of the End Times.

Wings re-sign Miller to 2-year, $1.65m contract

My worldview allows for a Red Wings team that has Jan Mursak and Drew Miller on it. -

So long Drapes, and thanks for all the fish. Bienvenido Miller, please enjoy the rest of your stay. -
I dislike these turns of events, but I think it's worth the patience to see what Kenny does with a possible trade before we make a bunch of dumb statements that will be on the Internet forever.

Jackets sign Wisniewski: 6-years $33-million ($5.5m/yr)
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Even if it is a slight overpayment, you gotta give to get. If you don't overpay anybody then you end up with nobody. -
Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I think that's an exaggeration, but even if not, do the Wings have any of those guys? If those guys do turn in the type of performance Eaves did, then they'll end up getting paid what Eaves does now. Don't let a quality guy walk just to see if win the roll of the dice on the next guy. There may be many like him, but this one is ours. -

After our brief foray into Bizarro World, we're back on track. Welcome back, Patty! -
No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Ehrhoff's rights traded to NYI, then traded to Buffalo

From Vancouver to the Island, wouldn't that be a helluva drop-off! Seems like a waste to me, I doubt he signs with them before checking the market out. -
Panthers Acquire Tomas Kopecky's Rights
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Detroit # 1 Fan's topic in General
A fortuitous thing for the Hawks to be sure, but also something that I think we're liable to see more of as long as the cap continues to rise. Teams trying to be competitive will be able to get out from underneath their blunders by moving their albatross contracts to terrible teams just wanting to make the cap floor. -
Having encyclopedic knowledge of players' birthplaces and junior teams does not make one a good commentator. How I envy you Canadians and your incredible "TSN."
-
What you forgot was the most important thing though: the Wings have cap space and free agency hasn't even begun yet.
-
I like Rafalski as much as anyone, but he spent the last two season dealing with chronic injury problems. When he was healthy he was very effective, but too often he wasn't 100%. So if they sign one of these less talented free agents, it could still be a net gain over last year if that player is playing closer to his peak more often, which I'm not sure if Rafalski was doing at any point in his final season.
-
I guess they're happy with Giroux and Briere being their centers. Seems like an awfully steep price to pay for a guy in Bryzgalov that doesn't seem to be that good anyways.

No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
I'd wager we don't have a Hudler or Modano situation on our hands with this one -- Jagr can still play ball. But he is old and not much for defense. Typical low-risk high-reward signing by Kenny if he does pull the trigger, in the Bert or Cleary vein, but this is better since Jagr is way more skilled than they'll ever be. If he ends up being useless it's no great loss. Unless the money they would potentially put towards Jagr could instead be leveled at another scoring forward, but I'm not sure how likely that is since they're probably going to use up a lot of cap space filling Rafalski's spot. And while there's some sentiment that the Wings aren't particularly starved for goals (I agree), there is something to be said for the lack of secondary scoring from the Dano/Bert/Flip/Hudler sector in the last couple playoffs (where applicable), specifically against the Sharks. If they can get a guy that might help that problem, and it's not money that was going to be used anywhere else anyways, then may as well give it a shot. -
Lidstrom agrees to 1-year, $6.2m contract

As was foretold in the book of Genesis: And on the seventh day Saint Nicklas did re-sign with the Red Wings. And it was good. -
SCF: Boston Bruins vs. Vancouver Canucks
Heroes of Hockeytown replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
It's a wonder there was a Game 7 at all considering the Sedins and Kesler were no-shows. And Luongo half the time. I definitely didn't think the Bruins had the right stuff to win this series; hats off to them and [Ken Daniels]Flint, Michigan native[/KD] Tim Thomas for their Cup win. -
This is the kind of thing Souray usually gets up to when he's tasked with defending someone:
-
Multiple ways to skin the cat, I reckon.

I guess they'll have to trade someones(s), and hope the cap goes up a bit. Versteeg, Harntell, Carter on the trading block?
